The OS inside the virtual machine only sees what Vmware presents. Nothing more, nothing less. It cannot peek outside of the virtual environment to see what the real hardware is which its running on. Thats why its called "virtual machine". LOL.

I think the speed is pretty damn impressive considering you are running it ON TOP OF another OS.
And for the record you don't have to buy any anti-virus, I've been using a free AV (avast!) and I haven't had a virus for the 3 years I've been using it, on XP, Vista and 7 it is very effective, and FREE. Not to mention that clicking the message brings you to a site that gives you recommended AVs from Microsoft, of which several are free.
I had everything turned on in vmware, printer didnt print it was just initializing, toolbar is default I didnt install anything, maybe it installed with all that crap I had to download to get movie maker lol. wasnt the fact there were different web pages,,,the windows are laggy in general in win7
use a real partition. the problem is not windows not recognizing your hardware, but your virtual machine. the same thing will happen if you install xp, vista, ubuntu, or even osx.
You need to set the amount of ram and the amount of video memory in your virtual machine software for Windows 7 to use to allow movie maker to run. By running vmware, your computer splits the cpu, ram, and video memory between your native OS and the OS being ran in vmware.Example: Lets say movie maker needs a gig of ram to run, then you need at least two gigs in your system so that way one gig is for Windows 7 and the other is left for OSX.
I tested it on an old machine with 640MB RAM and it ran at a nearly acceptable speed. I do however think it's Vista but polished - that's exactly what it is - a polished turd.
I remember a few months ago Emeek did a video on what windows needs to do to compete with OSX features or something close to that. In it he said that Windows should have an OSX like Dock. Well I must say Emeek, with Windows 7 you got your wish.

I've ran into one little crash with Windows 7 in control panel viewing it in classic view, double clicked Windows Firewall and the application crashed.
It didn't lock up Windows, could still get to all of my applications and so far zero BSOD. I'm still kind of tossed up if I like Windows 7 or not. The shutdown and restart menu needs to be totally different, need to use colors like Red along with a symbol for shut down.
IE is garbage anyway, and IE != Windows 7. It's a browser, not the OS, and not required. Never mind the fact that that was IE loading the Microsoft web page. It's not a valid comparison.

Norton however started to suck badly after Norton 2002. Too much bloatware and a recourse hog. Norton 2009 however is supposed to be different, haven't tried it though.

This is a bit misleading.
1. VMware needs to be set to 128 meg for graphics
2. Aero because of this is not switched on
3. Your can hear the printer printing the page
4. Explorer does not come with that toolbar on the top. It has ben added.
5. Browser comparison, load the same web page!!

Try running Xin 7 on some real hardware that has not been infected by OS X and it will run just fine.

Or perhaps its the VM machine your running under (Hardware graphics dont run under VMware) Hey guess what you need to actually download drivers for it use vista drivers as there are no win7 drivers yet. You really have no clue as how to use windows.

Besides, The hardware the VM'ed OS sees isn't your actual hardware, it is the hardware VMWare decides to show it. That is why Movie Maker won't run. Also, Beta OS. Maybe if he'd look for solutions to his problems instead of crying about how it isn't his precious OS X. Jesus. Everything in the action center can be customized/disabled. IE is not the only option. His driver issues are much more than likely the fault of his virtualization software. Same for the performance issue. Comparing Safari in his native OS to virtual machine is an instant clue of how he doesnt know his stuff.

I've ran into one little crash with Windows 7 in control panel viewing it in classic view, double clicked Windows Firewall and the application crashed.
It didn't lock up Windows, could still get to all of my applications and so far zero BSOD. I'm still kind of tossed up if I like Windows 7 or not. The shutdown and restart menu needs to be totally different, need to use colors like Red along with a symbol for shut down.

It doesn't have the 'required hardware' because you're using VMWare to run it you stupid shit. First, VMWare doesn't support 7 yet and has known problems with it. Next, VMWare especially doesn't have HARDWARE ACCELERATION FOR IT.

Yeah they did nothing with vista, only improved backwards compatability got more drivers made avaialble for it and improved its performance and added some new features with sp1.
Having opinions on a beta is fine and dandy, picking holes and then whining about it like its not gonna be fixed for the retail version is something else.
Its also dumb to expect the beta to work reliably 100% like macward and emeek do.

First and foremost, VMware. How are going to give an objective review when you're not even attemping to review the OS on level footing? How much disk space did you give the VM? How much CPU? RAM? yeah, you can't and won't answer that. the fact that it's VM means no graphical accelartion = no eye candy.
Additionally 'I messed around with it for an hour or two' doesn't make you qualified in my eyes. You're a biased idiot digging for reasons to hate win 7 while it's still in BETA. I give you a 1.

They are decent, been using NOD32 as of late, just love it, low resources and no problems. You would have to pay me a lot of money to even use Norton. Trust me I've had a lot of bad experiences with it.

Yeah I tried NOD32 and loved it. However it costs money and I'm a cheap bastard :P.
Norton however started to suck badly after Norton 2002. Too much bloatware and a recourse hog. Norton 2009 however is supposed to be different, haven't tried it though.
