tried camstudio with windows 7 and it does not work! Also the inf file to download the lossless codec is missing. It freezes up when you minimize it and leaves a flashing green screen that can't be closed. I had to do a forced shutdown of windows 7 to get camstudio to close. Seems like a good program for other versions of windows though, I guess:-/

@DarciaMoonz lol it knd of fixed itself for me. just don't minimize camstudio and use the way of the toolbar on the right side to stop recording.

OK, I just ran another test and changed the setting to what you recommend in the video. Now I get 57.7MB file for 3 min or 19.2 MB/min. that looks pretty good.

I would have guessed that the file size would be larger. But then, I am not a expert on this.

I have Win 7 and I have been using Cam Studio version 2.0 I also have installed the Cam Studio lossless codec version 1.5. I am getting ~26MB/min. for files sizes during screen recording in the AVI file format. Is this what I should expect? Seems large.

Other setting include...

Video - Auto Adjust, quality=70, 640 x 320 fixed window size no auto pan.

I ran 2 tests. One no motion and one with lots of motion, for 3 minutes each. They both came out with 78 MB avi files.

@Muttonbrother3 No,it will only record s portion of the screen that will fit to the youtube player size.Just enable autopan so that it will follow your mouse.If you want a full screen to fit in youtube player size,I think that would be impossible.The aspect ratio of the screen is 16:9 .But if you record in full screen and also play the video on Youtube in full screen,it would fit the player size.

To stop the skipping of sound on Win7/Vista, simply check the box saying "Use MCI recording", worked for me.

Just use the full version of media coder, and then import the recoding into it, and then click start you won't even have to change any settings as they will all be done for you, you get a really low file size plus great quality.

This is a really good format! If you download winff and convert it to xvid widescreen you can make the file size a lot smaller but, still give it pretty good quality. If you are doing it in full screen you probably just want to keep it at default.

HD video for YouTube: I just set the resolution to 1280 x 720 and then I compress the video with Movie Maker in Vista and select HD 720p when I save the file. I don´t think YouTube recognize it as HD just by the resolution.

Duncan, i know a way to keep the file size low when doing 1280x720.

You set your screen resolution to 1280x720 then record full screen with camstudio, when i do like 6minutes the file size is no more than 50mb's.

so if it works post back and if it doesnt ill try something else.

thats really not a big video i use xfire for game like combat arms or perfect world and i made a video that was 6:56 and it was 1.7gig witch i have no idea y it is so big but a plus is really really Cristal clear videos. for not in game video making umm screen toaster is ok other thing i use is hypercam witch is really bad quality and when i tryed to use camstudio it skips my voice in some parts witch is why i use hypercam hope that helped or dident help =)
