I wish this was the show that aired. This ad promises a very specific idea, but the actual show deviates so much from this promise by the end of it. I'd love to see a real, meaty drama about people stuck on an island and their social interactions. Not that I didn't enjoy how sci-fi things got, I'd just prefer a different outcome.

It doesn't matter which is which. That's purposefully left open to interpretation. More than one of them is a murderer. More than one of them is a martyr. Charlie's the more obvious junkie but Jack becomes one too. They are all guilty. They are all lost. In many ways.

What I find significant, looking at this again with season five eyes, Locke is shown conducting as if he's orchestrating the madness. Given how Locke has been turned into UnLocke aka Jacob's Nemesis, that's kinda creepy.

And of course, their dancing hinting at the relationships to evolve in the drama. It is a little annoying how all the women are completely soulless and being tossed around, especially as the series had so many strong females, but that is a small niggle in a great piece of art.

The first few series of LOST were good, but what I really, really remember, was seeing this trailer in the cinema before it came out on UK television, and being absolutely blown away by the concept. I just found the idea of all these different characters, a perfect enigma - not knowing who is who - all from different levels of society, suddenly all becoming 'equal' and having to co-operate. Just fantastic.

What is the little boy Walt, guilty of, I wonder? The question is why else would ALL the passengers (who are ALL guilty, apparently) all be in one place all at the same time? The writers threw further fuel on the fire of speculation when they said that a major inspiration for the series was a novel based in purgatory (can't remember which one though?). The cop was the agent assigned to watching Kate but he died shortly after the crash (in like the second episode?)

I love this promo. It totally fits the show, but works on a very different level than other promos. Nothing about the mystery stuff, the big events on the island, or even particularly the plane crash. But all about a very central aspect of LOST that often goes forgotten: that a group of strangers suddenly have to trust each other to survive.

And well, if you want that artsy quality to it, you probably just have to leave it to the Brits or the French =)
