I think your voicing is incorrect. You should be getting an "A" on the mouthpiece pitch. I'm not convinced you are...the sound is just off and the pitch is very inconsistent. I admire you for playing such an ambitious work. Strive for a deeper classical sound.
Has any one else noticed the error in transposition for the Sax version? The flute version starts on a B Flat, and when transposed, should be a G for alto sax. however, it starts on a C#... some one made a HUGE mistake.
which makes it lose the original tone color of the piece. It was written for flute because it has to do with the Greek Myth of Syrinx and Pan. Its meant to emulate the longing of Pan for Syrinx, the nymph. So its lost the original tone color, then its put in a different key, which makes it lose the original mood of the piece. it may be the same song, but in a different key, it sounds completely different. that's how its lost its value.

Im not Talking the song its self. im saying the alto version has lost the value, in the sense that, if the audience has never heard Syrinx, they won't know what its supposed to sound like, and will not have the original feel that Debussy wanted. and as a musician, you should understand what i mean by that. Its like a band making a cover album, it may be good, but its never gonna be as good as the original.
Just because it isn't played on the flute, doesn't mean it's lost value. It's an interpretation of a song which was composed for flute making it different to the original.
It will not have the same feel that Debussy wanted? I'm going to have to disagree with you again on this.
It's not what instrument that gives the song the feel, it's how the musician plays it. A truly good musician can convey the emotions and story behind Syrinx regardless of what instrument it's played on.

It was not transposed to be in the same key...it was transposed to be in a better/more common key for the saxophone.

i dnt know why i didnt think of that, lol
it makes more sense now, but still, it bugs me when things aren't in the original key :/
its almost as if it loses some of its value, you know?

how does it lose value by being in a different key?.....

well,
Debussy wrote it for Flute, not alto,
which makes it lose the original tone color of the piece. It was written for flute because it has to do with the Greek Myth of Syrinx and Pan. Its meant to emulate the longing of Pan for Syrinx, the nymph. i don't think your understanding what im saying.
This has nothing to do with the Song itself.
The song is amazing,
and im playing for State Solo and Ensemble on Monday, on alto.
What i am saying is this:
The song will never sound like what its meant to sound like, unless its played on the original instrumentation,
and im sure Debussy would agree with me on that.
It may portray a similar feeling to the original,
but never the same.
perhaps i just have a deeper understanding of music.

hahahahahaha.
A deeper understanding of Music? You sir have made my day. Lets agree to disagree.

Beautiful piece, eh? It sounds like you're going a little flat on the vibrato. Try practicing it with a reference pitch. Beautiful ending!
