  • I MET ROD GRILL ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, NOT ONLY WAS HE A NICE GUY BUT A VERY TALENTED SINGER. THE GRASS ROOTS WERE SENSATIONAL, REST IN PEACE ROD GRILL.

  • RIP Rick Coonce.

  • One of the best bands of all time to me. RIP Rob Gill.

  • @brwneyesaz opps! I made a typo on my previous comment. RIP Rob Grill.

  • @brwneyesaz I believe Rick Coonce also passed away in 2011 too.

  • man, rob was hot, warren was easy on the eyes too

  • This is one of my favorite videos. Great medley of their hits and so well played. Rob was so hot in this video. It's amazing that he looks just like my husband did at that same age. That's probably why I took a shining to Rob!!

  • 2011 was a sad year for Grass Roots fans. Drummer Rick Coonce passed away in February, and Rob Grill left us in July. Rest in Peace, thanks for the memories, and rock on!

  • Not that it matters . But Grill wasn'r gay ,BUT one of the song writers for them was . He said midnight confessions was about his lover . I have always loved their music . It looks like a young Paul Schaefer on keyboards .???????

  • which ones Creed??

  • @pjam07pjam He is not in this video, sorry.

  • Damn, Warren Entner was so sexy.

  • @brinsleysgirl1980 Totally agree!

  • Rob が亡くなったのを今頃 知りました ご冥福をお祈りいたします

  • Loved the Grass Roots and Rob Grill kept the music alive may he Rest In Peace...

  • Best "parking" tape back in 1969... 8 track of course.

  • One of my favorite bands...It; s so sad that people are taken away but thank goodness his music and family are his legacy..and wow what a legacy!

  • Why God why did Rob have to go now plz bring him back

  • Those PAF'S (old gibson guitar pick ups) sound heavenLY

  • It is astounding to me that in this day and age a persons sexual preference has any bearing on their accomplishments..really people?..They were a great band..Rob Grill was a truly talented performer..who gives a flying crap what anyone does..or WHO anyone does?..Do you people get your "information" from gossip rags?

  • @GeorgeCarlinIsInHell Ha! Haaa!!!

  • @GeorgeCarlinIsInHell Rob Grill was a bisexual..NOT GAY!!!

  • @UsuxMyBallsack Why are you so content of logging in youtube and making up lies of famous people. You think people are gonna believe you. It's not the late Rob Grill's fault your gay or bi. There are alot of fans out there giving youtube your id. Stop it. It's not the world fault your a nobody, just quit.

  • Theres not anyone who was in HS at this time that doesn't have a favorite Grass Roots song. It was a great time. We could listen to this great music, and imagine what a song meant to us individually, not what some video told us it meant. Great times, great friends, and great music. And who gives two shits what Rob was or wasn't? He made great music and gave all of us in that era, great memories. All the rest just doesnt mean shit.

  • @MegaBob77777 great point! music with out visual is your imagination telling the story! I dig it!

  • @georgesorosisgay1 Absolutely. You can listen to a song, and it gets to mean something to you, you picture it in your head. Now, you see the video, and the video forms your feelings on it. Hell, even now when I see some videos they do for old songs, I think, "That completely ruined that song for me". Kinda like the muscle cars of the 60's&70s,they were meant to go fast and look good. Now,they all look the same, and have more computer shit than the Shuttle. Its called Freedom to choose.

  • Rob Grill was a awesome artist and was NOT gay ! He fell probably cause of the bone disease, and the hip replacements. I know he loved his wife and loved his music. Why smear a dead mans accomplishments, after he is gone. Rob was a true performer, and alot of folks me included loved his music ! RIP Rob

  • Rob Grill was not Gay, not that it mattered. I knew him personally and I knew he loved his wife and family dearly. He was a really good man ! With a awesome talent !

  • Rob Grill was not Gay, not that it mattered. I knew him personally and I knew he loved his wife and family dearly. He was a really good man ! With a awesome talent ! He was in his late 60s and fell and cracked his skull and went into a coma, and just didnt survive the accident ! RIP Rob

  • Rob Grill was not gay. New him personally when I worked for Dunhill Records.

And what does it matter? There are some big liars out there.................

  • love the tone of the Gibson ES-335 gritty

  • No I'm not prejudiced against gay people, but I am against people who lie and use discusting profanity without class such as yourself! I'll be reading no more of your garbage, as it will be blocked.

  • There will always be sick individuals who like to start rumors because they do not have lives of their own. Rob was not gay! Perhaps you are, and wish Rob were gay for your sick fantasies. I cannot stand people lying on other people. Buddy you are dangerous to everyone around you. Toxic person. Grow up sicko. Rob would not want us to give you a second thought, as you mean nothing. You are dirt. RIP Rob and Christian.

  • Nice, although there is no apostrophe in Roots. It's a plural, not a possessive! Great video, though.

  • I've met numerous 'stars' - at concerts, conventions and on movie sets. I had the privilege of meeting MR. Grill and his lovely wife- Nancy. They are a class act and are STARS. When I heard he had passed I wept heartfelt, bittersweet tears. He had lived with both physical and emotional pain for years. I'm glad that's over for him; but so many people will miss his amazing voice and his gentlemanly manner. Bless you Nancy, RIP Rob and Christian. I'm weeping again...

  • @BrooksFrankandBoog70 You're going too far. Rob's son DID NOT pass from AIDS. And get the man's name right you stooge....it's ROB, not RON.

  • One of the BEST BANDS of ALL time. The 60's/70's were a happier time for us baby boomers. Hopefully Rob is still playing HIS music in HIS universe!!

  • @BrooksFrankandBoog70 Why are you so into gay men and continue to send messages about Mr. Grill. It's guys out there like you who can't stand to see good-looking guys who become famous. You write one more message negative about him and I'm gonna get in touch with the people at youtube. Why don't you go find a boyfriend or something. I mean it. People are reading this right now, not just you or I.

  • @hz11287 Thank you so much for defending Rob. This joker has been posting this same type of message on other GR videos, and you just posted my exact feelings about this. So if you want to contact youtube about this jerk, let me know. I'M IN!

  • @LousFool Thank you. I appreciate it. Look at his response below my response to BrooksFrankandBoog70 yesterday. I'm sure he is gonna see this message too. We will wait and see if he says anything else but he hasn't said anything negative about Mr. Grill. He said I was a homophobic I don't even know what that means. Thanks again. God Bless You.

  • @LousFool Hello again. This guy posted something really dirty about Rob Grill 5 hours ago showing an interview back in 1983 . We have to flag those message from that idiot. Youtube will review it and if he continues to put these negative comments as long as we flag them they will stop him from accessing youtube.

  • I have a back to back Grass Roots and Turtles CD. It is awesome, these bands are great. I am glad they both appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, and have had many of their shows played on airplay. I am not against all new music, but there was nothing that ever said music of the soul than the oldies but goodies.

  • I hear horns and don't see horns.

  • @marthaamydear In the dinosaur days, shows like Ed Sullivan had house orchestras to accompany the musical guests. I don't know which show this is, but maybe we can hear horns from the house musicians.

  • @lovedthe60s I think this is the Ed Sullivan show. I mean, the show had all sorts of famous bands, such as Lovin' Spoonful, Turtles, Supremes, Temptations, Beatles, Rolling Stones, CCR, Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Beach Boys, Four Seasons, Herman's Hermits, Four Tops, Martha & the Vandellas, Johnny Rivers, Animals, Hollies (I think), Byrds, Rascals, etc. The Grass Roots are a very popular band, so why not have them? It makes no sense.

  • @horrorshow20000 marthamydear wondered where the brass section was coming from. I suggested that the house band, on whatever show it was, might have accompanied them. I cannot say definitively what show this is, it might very well be Ed Sullivan. The point was that this performance looked like it was live and the horns were likely provided by the house band. Again, just a guess. and yes - Ed Sullivan was a staple in our house - evey Sunday at 8:00 pm on the good old CBC - loved it!

  • @lovedthe60s, I've watched this video many times, and my guess is the band's musical tracks were pre-recorded, but the mikes were hot and they sang the medley live. It's the only explanation that really makes sense. Not only does the audio quality of the instruments sound much too good and tight for live tv, but none of the guitars have electric cords, and this was before cordless electronics. As for the horns, it's entirely possible that they were there off-camera and playing along live...

  • @photoasylum you right the mics are hot, pre recorded live

  • @photoasylum If you look carefully at the bottom left of the screen around the 45 second mark when Rob is doiing his riff, you can see a plug into his guitar. I tried to see if I could see that area on the other guitars but the camera shots were all too high. I know it really doesn't matter - the performance of that medley was great no matter what, but it's interesting to see the different ways musical acts were presented way back when.

  • Oh these boys were so tight.Great job Rob .RIP my friend. You gave us baby boomers some great memories.

  • This incarnation of the band was probably the best. What great vocals. I will be seeing the Happy Together Tour in a few weeks. The Grass Roots just won't be the same without Rob Grill. R.I.P.

  • Rob Died after suffering a fall in his home..he had a stroke..AIDS? do a little reserach

  • @DrDeath251 This must come as a shock to Rob & Christian's DOCTORS who were treating bone disease & cancer. They should have consulted with you & Smeg for a diagnosis - you evidently know everything. Also, good job making up stories about dead people so they can't set the record straight. Do you think this is funny? I don't think Mrs. Grill, especially in this time of grief, would appreciate your insinuation that her husband lied to her all these years. Does pain amuse you?

  • @DrDeath251 no, i am not anti gay..lol..what i am anti, are nasty untrue rumors. i met rob grill on several occasions in arizona, he was'nt even close to being gay. he had a horrible bone disease and had multiple hip replacements, he was also in constant pain and on medication for that ,for years. he had a stroke, fell, hit his head and was in a coma when he passed away. so, my question to you is...are you anti straight?

  • @58terryg I wouldn't waste my time on these idiots that are saying Mr. Grill is gay. These guys that are commenting are jealous. Also, you right about his bone disease I seen him back in 2003 and he was wearing a brace on his left leg and yes he's been on medication for years cause of the pain. No, no he is not gay. They would say Jon Bon Jovi is gay. These guys wished they had all of us women looking at them but they are the gays ones.

  • @hz11287 you're absolutely right! i should'nt let myself get into a pissing contest with a moron like that!

  • @58terryg Thank you for that reply. Since Rob is not here to defend himself, thanks for helping to do that.

  • @LousFool my pleasure!

  • @DrDeath251 that's a disgusting rumor!

  • @UnCircumsizedSmegma ...what in the HELL are you talking about !!??

  • Gonna miss you Rob Grill RIP and my condolences to your family.

  • Just saw at Asbury Park Happy Together Tour they were very good but couldnt help but think how much better they were with Rob Grill.Very sad Condolences to the Grill family.

  • kwel lil tune

  • I was born in the '70s well after most of The Grass Roots' hits had been released. Musically speaking, I'm a child of the late '80s-early '90s, yet I definitely count Midnight Confessions, Live for Today and Temptation Eyes among my favorite songs ever. R.I.P. Rob Grill... your strong, clear voice shone like a beacon for me.

  • I grew up listening to this music it was the best then and i still have all my 45 and lps, of my favorites, music now just doesn't match up to this.

  • Very sad to hear about Rob Grill- had to write and say "Thanks" for sharing this clip and may I add heartfelt condolences to the band and his family. Rob, rest in peace. I just loved the Grassroots as a 13-14 year old!

  • Rob Grill looking absolutely gorgeous. So sad to hear of his passing.

  • Classic and timeless! Rest with our father Rob

  • RIP Rob, we'll miss you.

  • I can't tell whether this is live or not. Looks like they may be singing along with a pre-recorded track. Great songs, though!

  • Another fine voice graduating to the highest stage there is. Thanks Rob for all the feel good music that helped us endure our rag-tag world. RIP.

  • Rob Grill was my crush when I was 15. I was so sad to see his obit this morning. I will always remember him with that great smile, singing those great songs.

  • Thanks for the memories, Rob ... Midnight Confessions, Bella Linda, The River Is Wide, I'd Wait A Million Years ...

All pop stars go to Heaven.

  • I am so sad to hear the passing of Rob. I wanna cry when I see the videos. I grew up listening to these guys. Rest in peace Rob -- your in a better place.

  • While I'm listening this band, I feel a squeezing in my heart .... because I'm filled with nostalgia for the good music and good memories!

  • The Grass Roots were always one of my favorite groups. I grew up with these guys music. Awesome music! They were the best.

  • Great harmony singing on Temptation Eyes with Rob Grill and Dennis Provisor. These guys were great. Too bad we will more than likely never have "Top 40 Music" like this ever again ...but at least we have the memories and the music!

  • Their vocal harmonies are so good. and that is not an easy thing to do and so few bands do that today.

  • Did the Grass Roots tour with a horn section?

  • I would argue they are THE BEST group of the 70's. Tight bass, guitar & drums, with great vocals! Thanks for this. All their best in one video!

  • CREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg warren entner is/was SO HOT

  • I was born in the 80's, but glad I discovered The Grass Roots; Lots of awesome songs!

  • This looks very live! I loved these guys when I was a kid.

  • What a great 60's group- an awesome time for music and good times everyone should have lived in-- Creed is the Man!

  • Bloody brilliant. Today's "musicians" could learn a thing or two from this phenomenal band.

  • they don't write music like they used to!!! now THIS is great music!

  • THAT ROB IS SO HOT MAN HE TURNS ME ON

  • Just never, ever gets old. What?, 44 Years or so, and it is still just plain, good old fashioned music. And Live? Let's see that lady gag-gag do that. 40 some years from now people will thing she was the name of a eating disorder caused by 2011 music.

  • Just this medley alone should qualify these guys for the R&R Hall of Fame ...they sang live and sounded great.....there are plenty in the Hall that could not have done this...I don't think Elvis played all the instruments on his songs...most groups all use studio stand-ins ....so what big deal...the Roots were awesome....

  • Damn nice medley! And yes that period of time in music was special. The music was from the soul and was about love and caring. Today a lot of music comes from a very dark place and cannot shine. If I had a time machine, besides Jesus and Dinos, I would go back to see some of these concerts just to feel the audiences reception of these masterpieces-- can you imagine the reception Led Zepplin got the first time they did Stairway to Heaven? Bottle that up and smoke it!!!!!

  • @Mrsilversmith69 I have read and have written many comments before. Yours is one of the most concise and intuitive I have ever read. Congratulations on hitting the nail right on the head. Lucky that I was alive and old enough to have seen some of the best music of my lifetime. Even got pretty drunk and got high with The Guess Who in Winnepeg one night. That waqs ome party! I digress; You are right when you described yesterdays and todays music. Beautiful.

  • Rob Grill = big time crush...ah, the memories!

  • Love the vocal harmony with Dennis and Rob on Temptation Eyes.

  • And they could sing....

  • Great band! Great sound! Great memories!!!!!!! ....... and they are just a sampling of what were the bands in those years!

  • awesome music .. 40 years later ... still awesome .. I like it better now than in the day ...

  • What a gift that we still have this kind of music to listen to! The 1960's & 1970's produced the best Music ever in my opinion. Isn't it interesting, and this is a great example, that to be truly great back then, you didn't have to sing with lyrics containing killing, suicide, sex, treating women like whores or bitches, etc etc. By the way...Rap & Heavy Metal...EXCREMENT & TRASH!!

  • What a great group. The music still sounds fresh after all these years. Hell of a lot better than Bieber, GaGa, Cyrus, what have you.

  • Timeless genuine songs -Temptation Eyes..memories as a young girl. Great looking guys & the lead (Rob) a great voice! No computer tweeking needed here.

  • actually playing singing not lip syncing !

  • Still lovin' it!

  • This never gets old! I am so glad I was a young high school girl listening to them on my am radio everday. Now that was great music.

  • The Grass Roots <3

  • Great songs and great memories. We had some fun times......

  • Great medley!

  • NSYNC, The Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, Justin Bieber, and the Jonas Brothers couldn't wash Rob Grill and Company's dirty socks on their best day.

  • @JayBBluejay You got that right. They're all just dancers who seem to also play music.

  • Glad I was part of that era.

  • Going back to a time when MOST bands were grungey with kinda bad hairdos, Grill and this newer set of members were all so great looking. Grill was one of my biggest crushes, I was amazed that none of my girlfriends knew who he was! He was and still IS Easy on the Eye and still VERY talented. Thanks for the good times Rob and GR,

  • It is so nice, for a change, to listen to a group featuring three very good singers. These guys had such nice voices...and they were excellent eye candy, too.

  • @muthuuht As opposed to todays "stars", who are picked only because they're eye candy to unsophisticated young girls.

  • Ahh, to go back to those days.

  • This is some of the best music ever made. I have several of their albums.

  • Music will always be music,,,,It's what you make of it !!!,,,,,,

  • Great medley of songs by the GREAT The Grass Roots! Played live, too!

...and to think I was just a little tyke when these guys were popular & in their heyday.

I sure wish music was still being made like this today.

Oh well...Guess we'll all have to "wait a million years" for that to happen.

Who knows? Maybe that'll be "sooner or later" than we think!

  • The Grass Roots singing & playing live...What a treat!

Is Rob Grill the one with the semi-long black hair (sans moustache) & wearing the lavender sweater?

A medley of their best hits!

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH Rob Grill is the one with the brown frontiersman jacket, with brown hair & moustache.

The guy wearing the lavender shirt playing the keyboard is Dennis Provisor.

I can't understand how I could possibly make that mistake...Sorry, everyone!

  • Amazing, people that could actually sing live, play live and had talent!! Something that has been missing in music since mid 80's?? This music you felt down deep, and it gave you a good feeling, you sang it all day. Todays music(and I use that term litley) is all about killing, rapingg, slapin you ho's and bitches, real classics. Im glad I was a kid back in the 60s and 70s. Great music, great friends, great times. We had fun.

  • This is great music

  • That's Dennis Provisor on keyboards and Terry Furlong on guitar, far right. Creed was long gone by this time.

  • I guess if it was worth it. I'd wait a million years as well.

  • Can someone tell me who the one on the left, the keyboardist is, the one next to him and the drummer. I know Rob Grill and Creed Bratton. These three weren't with him last spring when I saw Rob Grill in Schenectady NY.

  • Can someone tell me who the guy on the keyboard is, the one next to him and the drummer. I know Rob Brill and Creed Bratton.

  • i luve that they are giggling about it all, kewl

  • what was the name of the first song?

  • @Metallichate Wait a Million Years

  • yes those guys are totally hot even now!!! takes me back 30 yrs!! Loved them then and still love them now!! Live for Today great song!

  • Comment removed

  • God those two lead singers are so hot! *drool* ^_^

  • @Linkfan07 yes they are!!! & that's coming from someone who seen them in the 70's!!!

  • @Linkfan07 Brittmey your mother spent most of her young adult lives giving blowjobs to Rock stars just like The Grass Poops.

  • Total babes

  • One of the best groups of the 70's

  • @Tater1951 ALSO ONE OF THE BEST GROUPS OF THE 60's. Rob Grill is up in Heaven and singing to us all. RIP ROB and GOD BLESS YOU! I noticed they added another player in this segment. they use to have only 4 members during the 60's.

  • Got to see these guys this past April in Schenectady NY...they should have been the headliner..Rob Grill STILL HAS IT!! He was awesome! Of the four bands there (A cover band, The Grassroots, Davy Jones of The Monkees, and Peter Noone of Hermans Hermits), The Grassroots were the only ones that brought people to their feet singing and cheering. He's also quite funny.

When he was pushing his CD's He said "please get one.. I have grandchildren to support...maybe even some around here. ROFL

  • I've just discovered this group. They're great. Even though I'm 40 years too late!

  • @trossachs2003 he just died

  • Greatest band EVER.

  • Aw, without Creed the Grass Roots are just bogus.

  • did you know they appeared on Band Stand 52 times

  • this is the best and greatest song of all time.....

  • i loved the 60's....

  • @picowgirl Me too!
