  • I love the quality of your camera, what brand and model # is it?

  • Canon HV20

  • dave nice video whats the name of the song you start that video out with?

  • Tourmaline. See end of video info.

  • best lesson so far dave... keep rocking.. thanks it's very useful and simple.

  • Thanks again Dave.

  • I never noticed before but your teath are mega white. Good lesson as always.

  • Another great video, Dave.

Great job on the "Where the Wild Things Are" dvd too. I noticed you in the "got riffs?" t-shirt. Awesome stuff.

  • dave i get a email everytime you do a new vid ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and i have too say that what a wonderful thing you do for so many is take the time out of your life and do videos like this one that helps people in so many ways.

have too give you credit ,,,not too many pros like yourself would give out the info you do every week for free

wonderful job dave ,have a great day stay safe and thank you .mike

  • Thanks for the lesson Dave!!!

  • I'm really loving the more lesson oriented videos lately. Riffs are great, and keep them coming, but I think having the tools and knowledge of how to create riffs is much more valuable.

  • Agree completely. Thanks for the lesson Dave.

  • do a riff of the week on sweeping, that would be sweet

  • Yes Sweeps! that would be sweet

  • in this video i can clearly tell we DONT have the same monitor. haha

  • I asked myself a year or two ago why my improv doesn't sound too strong and realized that it's because I'm not repeating my ideas and emphasizing them. There wasn't much wrong with the ideas themselves at all. this is a great lesson and a very important note for all improvisers on any instrument

  • When you improvise, what rules is there? Stick to the key of course, then? Like timing for each chords, timing on the beats, etc?

  • No rules, baby. That's the fun of it.

  • Your lessons are great man. I'm learning new stuff every vid! Thank you for puting your energy in us! Btw.. the intro tune is niceeeee!! :D

  • Thanks Dave. This was something i knew

by feeling, but, never really analysed it like that. Good lesson.

  • That little improv run you did at 2.40 or so sounded like something Al Di Meola or Mike Stern would do... thats something to be proud of!

  • ibanezbloke, that's exactly what I was thinking! And the funny part is that it was a bad example.

  • I never thought of using this "motifs", thanks for this lesson.. It helps me a lot Dave..

  • really great lesson. i never thought about how motifs are repeated in improvisation. it would be cool to see another expansion on motifs.

  • i really dig that les paul. im considering getting one after i get out of the army in a few years. what year model do you think is the best for quality in the gibson les pauls?

  • To some extent, the older the better :)

  • i was just sayin my E.S.P-ltd edition ive had 20years now+it still sounds amazing,as long as their looked after in a flight case.

  • Try the Traditional Pro. Amazing guitars for the price.

  • your best to look and listen to the sound of a few different guitars before you find one that suits you,you gota feel comfortable it helps.ive got a twenty year old E>S>P-ltd edition+it sounds gr8,but i would like a les paul too!!rocknroll

  • unless your a professional i wouldn't get one. Gibson has got poor quality control. Check out edwards, burny, and other japanese guitars of this sort. The les paul is a very iffy design in general. but its your decision
