  • Man thats awsome, say tom 2 questions if you could answer, whats on the bottom of Makaha (sand, rock, reef) and was that really 5-6 hawaian. It looked about 2-3 maybe solid 6 maybe 7 on sets. Oh, and is there always that famous backwash?

  • Technically thats 3 questions. 1) the bottom at Makaha is mostly reef shelf with deceptively sandy shore break. 2)as for wave size it quite subjective but i would say in retrospect maybe it was around 2.5 - 3.5. Finally answer number 3) The back wash is not constant & is more common on bigger surf days. But due to the steep slope of sand at the shore break, once a wave has enough power to wash up the slope & there is another nice size wave following it, close behind as the first wave retreats

  • Thanks tom. is the water shallow enough so that the reef shelf hurts every wipe out? like all those wipe outs Brada Mels contest?

  • See it for your self via my video response
