I love praying mantises so goddamn much. Used to keep them as pets when I was a kid. Would love to have an orchid mantis, I always thought they were awesome ever since I saw them on the Discovery Channel back when the Discovery Channel was... watchable.

@Kaotixkitty One thing you can do is look up reptile expos. I go to the one in White Plains NY that they hold every 3 - 4 months. These places have insect and arachnid breeders, they're not just all snakes and lizards. I've bought 2 flower mantids and a bud wing mantis at that expo a long time ago. I was new to the hobby and the jerk who sold me Little Missy (the bud wing) said she was an immature Malaysian dead leaf.

no,they dont bite.. they might squeze a lil bit as they get older when they climb on ur hand, thats about it... Also, it tickles so much that it iches...

@jancrysix maybe it could, but it would have a very hard time getting through the thick human skin. But it never does, it bites&eats flys and crickets, and if it's scared of me it hits me, but no biting.

my miomantis caffra tried to eat my finger when i was cleaning out the jar. she at first attacked me but held on and started to chew i had to poke her to get her to stop

dident hurt atall just a tickle it was rather amusing a lil mantis thinking she can eat me ... haha

@spankmygimp yes, my adult femal hierodula membranacea tried this too, it was almost frightening with how much force she grabbed,hold and pressed my finger. My first reflex was to throw her away (on the couch, she's fine). The big ones really have a firm grip :o
