ice extended second lead! I saw him I think at Creation 82 with a pink and gray strat and thought, preppy, maybe? A nice and approachable guy; I helped him wrap cords up after a local show. Now where is that solo acoustic version of this song I saw one time...? Similar scat stuff in the end as with this one.
greatest rock guitar song of all time and the fact to my knowlage its not really regerstered with "i read rolling stone so i know music"-mind set makes it even greater
@fretworx Funny you should say "Birth of King's X". This album/song has Doug Pinnick singing background vocals. And when Keaggy toured in the early 80's Doug played bass for him and Jerry Gaskill played drums. King's X were together at this time but they were known as "Sneak Preview".
@abassplayer4life That's crazy cool! I had no idea, and I consider myself a pretty hardcore King's-X fan. I actually live in Spfd, MO from where they started, and have friends that hung w/them when getting their start. Heck, I've even got a 2x12 cab that Ty used to play through back in the day. But I've never heard the Keaggy connection - THANKS MILLIONS for clueing me in about that! That must have a been a fantastic sounding lineup...
@fretworx I need to correct myself. You were more correct than I thought. First off, Doug co-wrote Just A Moment Away with Phil. Second, Greg X. Volz was putting together a project and Doug relocated to MO but the band folded shortly thereafter. Phil needed a bassist, drummer and backup vocal for a tour and Doug, Jerry Gaskill and Greg Volz joined Phil for about a year. Doug soon after saw Ty and brought in Jerry and The Edge was born. Name change to Sneak Preview which became King's X.
@abassplayer4life Right you are - you know your stuff. Then Greg goes to the E-Band and later Petra. So cool how some of the most amazing acts ever got their start. These guys truly paved musical paths that are still being walked upon today.
@bruhe keaggy is in a completely other league from clapton. Clapton was a killer guitarist, but he was really and truly more just a songwriter. Keaggy is pretty much just a virtuoso, even today.
Excellent song about the world's recurring stubbornness! You may have a cracked ceiling, but God can fix it. We must help them understand that they need God!
Gotta point out, however, that in this video Phil's playing a Fender "Stratocaster" rather than a Gibson "Les Paul". Never seen a guitar that Phil didn't make sound good!

Back for more. Tell me Clapton can come anywhere near this. I love Eric. But seriously, when Phil's at the top of his game, fuggetaboudit.

@airforcejim i agree totally . that was the point. Clapton is great and all, but Phil takes it to a whole 'nother level.

This song and Time are two of my all time favourites by Phil. It takes a long time to upload though ?

non-religious people have this annoying tendency to complicate simple analogies to ease their consciences. :(

That is the whole point of faith. If it could be proved there would be no need for faith.

I want Phil to grow that mustache back, grab the Les Paul, and hit the road with the band again!

I saw him on the Master and the Musician tour. Great talents with him.

You're right. it is indeed a strat and his stratrobatics are legendary.

More recently. e.g on his Jammed album...he plays a strat, as seen on the cover
