  • Sorry, I was wondering what the time based effect is...I understand where the fundamental tone is coming from, but I think he's also using some sort of tape echo or reverb? I've heard Joe Perry utilize a similiar type sound. Someone out there knows exactly what effect this is that I'm hearing. I can honestly say I've never in my life heard that guitar sound in a live performance.

  • Lick at 3:18 is SO MUCH FUN!!

  • @EugeneMarks Thas ROCK N ROLL!

  • Always loved your music always will u guys sound great and this song I can relate as many can I'm sure but u make it so surreal thank-u Tom and your great band been to your concert in Detroit years back front 5th row at Pinenob it was called then loved that concert as well....went threw a lot could'nt make another but will again.......

  • Anyone know how to get Mike Campbell's guitar sound during the slide solo?

  • @rocknrollchicago345

sg treble pickup + tube screamer plus vibrato the shit out of it, by the sounds of it. Bloody lovely. :)

  • @rocknrollchicago345 Well, I do know that the sound was recorded with a 200,000 dollar vintage Les Paul... if that helps. :P The entire album was recorded with that guitar and based around Mike's talents as a player.

  • I would love to check out all the gear n guitars while the guys play behind me. tom has the coolest guitars ever.what an awesome rehearsal space.

  • This is great!

  • Saw Tom Petty way back when...He was just starting out...Still in love with his Music..He has never let me down after all these years..The man has grown graceful, has stayed so cool and yes even the very young love him too..Love DYLAN and TOM along with George Harrison and Roy Orbison when they played together...thank you ♥♥♥♥♥

  • GENIUS...gran amigo de Harrison, Orbison, Dylan y Mr. E.L.O., y por supuesto Heartbreakesrs, que más se puede pedir...Ñoosss

  • fuckin love it...........

  • taylor hawkins haha think he sings but older .......

  • mal wieder was neues von Tom Petty

  • Morpheus is god *-*

  • Morpheus on drums.i like him 8)

  • with that beard he's like Taylor Hawkins dad!

  • This song is my Motto for me and give me the MOJO to get me through my Divorce..It is just OMG from this Valley Girl.. It is not just for the guys..love the rock and makes me want to get up and slap my own face. The album is great too!!

  • Yeah, Old ugly Tom can rock and will probably rock it until the day he dies.....one of the only rock gods left, amen???

  • Pure unadulterated in your face Rock n Roll. Keep it alive

  • I wish they would add this song to Rocksmith. I have been learning to play Good Enough, but this song sound like it would fun to play too.

  • Tom Petty is God!...super song, amazing!

  • It is odd just how this song fits in just perfectly with all their other work.

  • i was kinda wondering... wtf ?? :P

  • Awesome. Wish they would do more tunes like this. Especially on this album.

  • I wish I had a piano boost XD

  • I love the tune. It's just adorable watching these old dudes rock out. I hope to do the same one day.

  • where is that crash from 1:58, you can hear it, but the drummer doesn't hit

  • @begombre That's just a mistake on the editor's part

  • @begombre crash is there - ride is not

  • MAN..............Tom Petty owes Led Zepplin some money for this one.

  • @stratele76 Why?

  • @stratele76 you dont know your tunes man

  • @vrab204 More like the other way around. This is just like zepplin..............I bet even if you ask tom himself he will say this is a little tip of the hat to zep.........

  • My mother once asked, "What kind of accent does Tom Petty have?" My father replied "A Tom Petty accent."

  • @acledfloyd good one! lol

  • killer, absolutely powerful, can i have that sg? !!!!

  • mint <3

  • All that music equipment has more value than some African countries.

  • fantstic song..:D

  • Bah... I come here for I should have known it... and they give me an ad... Ok thats fine, but now I have to ask... WHAT SONG WAS THAT IN THE AD! I liked it!

  • Look at that beauty! 2:20

    fender classic Mustang

  • foo fighters covered this in sept at their concert in nj...amazing

  • @TheAbyouknowme whhhatttt? is there a video... and are you sure? because they have a song on their new album called "I should have known" that is similar.

  • Super like!!

  • This song is kind of Led Zeppelin-ish isn't it?

  • @adam10603 yes its like zed. i initially thort it was wolf mother but saw the video and brealised these guys too old... what a song bru!!!

  • @CLEMJOL realised sorry not brealised foo fighters doing this musta been just as brilliant

  • Tom Petty couldn't put down the guitar

  • @frankyrocksmyrocks just pointing out that he felt the need to hold his guitar the whole song, no shit talking intended, this whole album is great.

  • @frankyrocksmyrocks i just realised today you can barely see him strumming some chords in the solo part... didnt see this up until now, but yes its a bit pathetic especially if the rhythm guy plays an epiphone casino and tom is holding a gibson

  • @MrVirusSnake Yeah, but it's not like they actually recorded the song with those guitars. Mike recorded the whole album with a 50s Les Paul that cost 200,000 dollars! That's what inspired them to do a blues album. Tom wanted to wrap the album around Campbell's abilities and the guitar's tone and sound. Hopefully the next album will be wrapped around Benmont. :) He did an amazing job on Mojo. I've never heard piano parts quite so amazing than the ones Ben did on Mojo. Beautiful.

  • @tompetty1976

That Les Paul tone is so classic, it makes this album reminiscent of the 70s. Hard rock and blues, very similar sound because the guitar itself is the most classic.

Back to Sept 2010. I was on the PC and suddenly this video was played on a MTV style national channel. I ended like, oh, classic rock in 2010, that's great. I was surprised to see such good stuff pop once in a pop channel.

  • i dont know about the beard but love this song!!!

  • What kind of sunglasses are those? Sick song!

  • @xxjessexxx I don't know, but he has a light sensitive issue in his right eye. or the left, but either way, its only one. he has really light blue eyes, and people with lighter shaded irises usually have trouble with light.

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Я уже до дыр затер этот альбом. Классический Petty.

  • Sick!

  • It's Weird How He Looks Older But The Voice Is Still The Same!

    Keep Rocking Tom!:D<3

  • Mike Campbell's guitar tone is godlike:)

  • @ILuvMyGitar Should be. It's a 200,000 dollar guitar.

  • @ILuvMyGitar Sorry, not the guitar in the video. The one he recorded it with. It's a really hard to find Les Paul that they only made about fifty of in the 50s, I believe. However, he did ask his wife first if he could buy it. Haha. <3. That's nice of him.

  • that last solo sounds like Jimmi Page... Just the style the timing of the string hits how there like Just a slight bit off inna wierd way or somthing its hard to explane but reminds me of his style..

  • Lots of people are referring to a lot of the songs on this album being Zeppelin-ish.

  • people really need to stop with the zepplin stuff. these guys love zepplin and are the only ones that can pull this shit off. best rock band left.

  • looks like one of the coolest places on earth to me .... tom petty i the coolest

  • Whats the story of the picture on the wall that is blurred, you can see it at 0:42

  • @pjenker and at 1:42 , looks like an andy warhol picture of marylin monroe

  • why dont the rock stations play this , its one of the best best songs ive heard in a long time

  • Simply ROOOOOCK!!!!!!!!!!

    What a place!

    Tom Petty looks great!!!

  • Did the Foo Fighters use this song to create one of their own... the two songs sound similar and have a rather close title.

  • @GuitarFang I doubt it. The subject matter & overall mood is way different. I don't even hear a similar melody between the two.

  • Should have known Petty and Campbell would come up with a deadly riff that i can`t get out of my head again. His voice is still there as well. This song is a rocker that i finally can connect with. Way to go boys!!!

  • 2:41 till end is my wake up call:D

  • THIS is what real rocknrolla is all about, rock on!!! love that i've lived in a time of all these greats x x

  • 2:42 love that moment

  • Fantastic. And is it just me, or does anyone else think the Black Keys would be really good at performing this song?

  • @crunchbite50

The Black Keys + Tom Petty would be a sick duet..

  • @crunchbite50 Yes, partly because the black keys front-man looks like tom petty :P

  • @crunchbite50 Tom is AWESOME and the Black Keys SUCKS.

  • @crunchbite50 yes you are right i thought that to from the first seconds

  • @crunchbite50 It's in the vein of the Black Keys, but the first problem is the number of guitarists.

  • musical genius. 35 people listening to too much hip hop crap/

  • Chico-It's the last time your gonna hurt me!!!!

  • The Heartbreakers are a really top notch band

  • i used to think of mike campbell as just a marginal guitarist.. ho hum...today, different opinion. he is truly a virtuoso player as tom puts it. just think back at some of the guitar work in most all of those hits, they would not be the same without mike. his work helped MAKE some of those memorable songs. quality over quantity, love him!

  • at 3:20 that riff sounds a LOT like Allen Collins, on His freebird solo, nice work!

  • What a song!

  • awesome tune.

  • who is tom's drummer in the video?

  • @FreakinKoolMedia that would be Steve ferrone. He's played with slash and Eric Clapton. hope that helps.

  • Thumbs up if your listing to this kick ass artist in 2011??

  • Darrelll Dean Nelson

  • @phenix749 ???

  • @maalbe987 I'm taking a guess but Nobody's fault but mine is similar. Ideal wise, some of the riffs too maybe.

  • Found this on a song review:

    Reviewer: Valhalla | 6/3/09

"I also love classic rock and think you are spot on about pop music today. To me it's crap. It's not even real music anymore. It's just noises produced by a computer. The Who's song: long live rock said "long live rock... Be it dead or alive." I agree, long live rock but, I'm afraid it's dead."

-But NOW, Mr. Petty revived good 'ol classic rock with this song. Man, it sounds so 70s!

  • every promise was just a run around,,,,i shoulda known it.....FTW and you too Billy

  • tom petty is rock n roll. tom petty is the MAN.

  • Gainsville baby
