Sorry, I was wondering what the time based effect is...I understand where the fundamental tone is coming from, but I think he's also using some sort of tape echo or reverb? I've heard Joe Perry utilize a similiar type sound. Someone out there knows exactly what effect this is that I'm hearing. I can honestly say I've never in my life heard that guitar sound in a live performance.
Always loved your music always will u guys sound great and this song I can relate as many can I'm sure but u make it so surreal thank-u Tom and your great band been to your concert in Detroit years back front 5th row at Pinenob it was called then loved that concert as well....went threw a lot could'nt make another but will again.......
@rocknrollchicago345 Well, I do know that the sound was recorded with a 200,000 dollar vintage Les Paul... if that helps. :P The entire album was recorded with that guitar and based around Mike's talents as a player.
Saw Tom Petty way back when...He was just starting out...Still in love with his Music..He has never let me down after all these years..The man has grown graceful, has stayed so cool and yes even the very young love him too..Love DYLAN and TOM along with George Harrison and Roy Orbison when they played together...thank you ♥♥♥♥♥

Bah... I come here for I should have known it... and they give me an ad... Ok thats fine, but now I have to ask... WHAT SONG WAS THAT IN THE AD! I liked it!
@TheAbyouknowme whhhatttt? is there a video... and are you sure? because they have a song on their new album called "I should have known" that is similar.
@frankyrocksmyrocks i just realised today you can barely see him strumming some chords in the solo part... didnt see this up until now, but yes its a bit pathetic especially if the rhythm guy plays an epiphone casino and tom is holding a gibson
@MrVirusSnake Yeah, but it's not like they actually recorded the song with those guitars. Mike recorded the whole album with a 50s Les Paul that cost 200,000 dollars! That's what inspired them to do a blues album. Tom wanted to wrap the album around Campbell's abilities and the guitar's tone and sound. Hopefully the next album will be wrapped around Benmont. :) He did an amazing job on Mojo. I've never heard piano parts quite so amazing than the ones Ben did on Mojo. Beautiful.
That Les Paul tone is so classic, it makes this album reminiscent of the 70s. Hard rock and blues, very similar sound because the guitar itself is the most classic.
Back to Sept 2010. I was on the PC and suddenly this video was played on a MTV style national channel. I ended like, oh, classic rock in 2010, that's great. I was surprised to see such good stuff pop once in a pop channel.
@xxjessexxx I don't know, but he has a light sensitive issue in his right eye. or the left, but either way, its only one. he has really light blue eyes, and people with lighter shaded irises usually have trouble with light.
@ILuvMyGitar Sorry, not the guitar in the video. The one he recorded it with. It's a really hard to find Les Paul that they only made about fifty of in the 50s, I believe. However, he did ask his wife first if he could buy it. Haha. <3. That's nice of him.
that last solo sounds like Jimmi Page... Just the style the timing of the string hits how there like Just a slight bit off inna wierd way or somthing its hard to explane but reminds me of his style..
Should have known Petty and Campbell would come up with a deadly riff that i can`t get out of my head again. His voice is still there as well. This song is a rocker that i finally can connect with. Way to go boys!!!
