Spend $100 to $150 on a good lipo. Something like 5000mah 2 cell 35c or 40c should make it move pretty good. Then of coarse you would have to get a lipo charger, $50 to $75 for a cheap one. You will need a good lipo to get the most out of a brushless system so get the lipo first and see what you think.

Slash is a great truck for backyard use, i bought one for a friend a few months ago and he drives it a battery or two every day after work on his track behind his house. Its yet to break or fail on him in anyway and i do not think he has touched it with a wrench once.
