  • Europe is changeing fast and some forms of life and languages and cultures are dissapearing at an alarming rate. We cannot stop the assimilation of other ethnic groups into our Basque land, but the MOST IMPORTANT THING is to save our ancestral language from going extinct

  • Very interesting comments... the Basque region and culture is indeed very valuable and historic within the wider context of the world. However, such discussions about any sort of "purity" is not only morally corrupt, but scientifically injustifiable. The world's "races" are a composition of population movements over thousands of years. Today's "basques" are simply a collection of previous peoples who found themselves in a region with a language that developed into basque. Voila, Euskadi.

  • Some people may see a boy with dark skin who speaks basque. But I only see a Euskaldun (basque speaker) as myself, perfectly speaking the dialect of Viscay (Bizakaiera). And euskaldun is the main word we use for "Basque" although this two words don´t have exactly the same meaning.

  • although that child is of a different ethnic background, it puts to shame the thousands of so called "Basques" that don't speak eskuara and bring up the shitty theory of the rhesus in their blood. Thanks to children like that on the video, and their conscientious teachers and parents our ancestral language is being saved from going extinct, at least for a hopefully substantial amount of time.

  • It's about to be 2011 come on! We need to all accept that we live in a multicultural intertwined world, regardless of what your "history" says or what happened in past. Yeah I get there are traditions, but why hold on to them if they do not agree with the current global society you are living in? Majority of humans are not white. Most are racially, ethnically, culturally mixed. This also applies to religion and ideology.

  • @nicolofosho oh i see what this is about now...and it makes me angry, some of us have a heritage that we are proud of. a poodle can never become a labrador, and an african can never become basque... stop trying to pillage my heritage to make yourself feel better about not having one. well technically you have two but you get my meaning

  • @montfalkon Ur heritage sucks. You are proud of a worthless region. lol

  • @nicolofosho yes I am proud. i dont see how you can call an entire region and its people worthless.s. Im reminded of something that happened to me when i was a child. My mother and i were talking about when and whom i would marry. I asked in jest: "what if i were to marry an african?"

"that would be very cruel" she said.

"to you?" I asked, expecting her to say yes.

"no" she said, "to your children, they would not be this or that, they wouldnt have a place in the world."

    Now i understand.

  • a black basco?

    hmmm, that's odd.

  • @luciferiexcelsil A close-minded ignorant fool? Unfortunately that's not odd.

  • @nicolofosho lol you mad?

  • instead of going on about this kid being Basque or not because he's black, we could much more simply just refer to the Basque word for "Basque": euskalduna (for all of you who are erdaldun, on non-Basque speakers, I'll point out that euskalduna is the most important word we have for "Basque", and literally it means he/she who has [speaks] Basque). From that point of view, this kid is definitely Basque (euskalduna), just like anyone who speaks Basque.

Now you can go on about RH-, being white, etc

  • you people are crazy! we are an ethnic group culturaly, geneticaly and especialy linguisticaly distinct. this is not a basque child, its a negro child who speaks basque, my guessing is many of you are americans, so perhaps you dont understand, we are open minded, but we are also VERY nationalistic and do not divide ethnicity and culture, one can not be culturaly basque and not geneticaly. so there are no "cultural basques" just basques, or "guests" who happens to speak basque

  • Comment removed

  • @montfalkon Your use of the word "negro" highly offends me as I am half Jamaican and half European. Please do not use that word when referring to a black person, it is extremely offensive.

  • @nicolofosho negro is the castillian word for black sorry for the inconvenience

  • @DammerungerG0tter - I don't think that was necessary.

  • A great specialist of basque was a african woman from wolof origin G.NDiaye, she speaks Euskara and she wrote a work about Basque in French (Structure du dialecte basque de Maya-La Haye- Paris). I believe she's married with a basque.

A sentence says: "Is basque who speaks Basque", basque people are more open-minded than orther.

  • damn, he's so cute! :)

  • The concept of Euskotarrak (a united, ethnic Basque people) is kind of silly considering that the people are so ancient, and thus they have had hundreds of different influxes of different ethnic groups. I think if you can speak Euskara fluently, you are one of them.

  • @JonnyLightning well, you think wrong

  • Well technically to be 'basque' means to speak the basque language (and not just a few words and phrases!). In relation to that comment below by prettyunicorn1, if myself as a pale, red-haired Irishman decided to move to Basque country and speak basque and I did a video speak basque, would ppl say I'm not basque? besides many ppl in Basque country come from other places like in France and Spain. It's a wonderful language btw, as is my national language, Irish! I love Bilbao! :)

  • @OrganicAndFree how the hell can I learn Euskara? no one has it (online) not even rosetta stone... I work 24/7 7 days a week so I can't take classes... Even then I wouldnt know where

  • To be honest really the best place to learn it is in Basque country and it's usually taught through Spanish at first. I have a programme on my computer called 'Languages of the World' and it has Basque on it and it isn't very time consuming either. The only problem is it is very basic and not very detailed as compared to the other languages on it like German, French and Spanish. It is a small language to be honest.

  • @OrganicAndFree yeah thats kind of what I feared ha Im OK at Spanish but I should be better. Thats part of the reason I want to learn it because it sounds cool AND is not widely spoken (I heard like only 700k speakers)

  • @Kirikolatza1 So what? Just get on with your life. Anyone is allowed to speak any language, regardless of where they were born or what they happen to look like. You're clearly basque, but you are speaking English. Do you hear us complaining? We could very well say that is not part of the English culture, blah blah blah...but we don't. We embrace you and your "strange" culture.

  • and now the globlalization almost exclusively because money and capitalisme reasons (very sad reasons), that all of us have to accept that and have to be agree with. I´m not "white", but a Basque person, and I´m proud of it, as you should are of your nationality and race. I don´t understand what is your complain about. I don´t see bad thing that foreigners speak our language...

  • @nicolofosho I don´t understand your complain. English language is not yours, you use it cos the imperialisme and colonization also like me because they forced us to learn it at school as global language, and I have not any complain about it. Don´t generalize, if you are mixed race I have not problem, but don´t say because a lot of people are like you, mainly only because imperialisme reasons,

  • His ethnicity might be basque by culture, but his race is not biologically pure basque? Can we agree with that instead of insulting one another?

Nice to see the kid speak the language. One can call mother one who is by nurture or by nature. This kid speak the language well and shows the culture.

  • @DontReplytoComment And since when did "basque" come to designate a "race"? Does the inhabitans of Basque in Spain and France have radically different genes from the surrounding non-basque populations? Do the people living in Basque as a group have markedly different physical features from the non-basque surrounding populations? According to modern ethnology it's impossible to determine ethnicity by genes and phenotypes; only racists and racialists believe in that.

  • @Mogura87

Actually the most respected Genealogists in the world believe that. See World DNA Project.

  • @Mogura87 well if its impossible to determine anything by genetics...than HOW DO POLICE SOLVE CRIME SCENES? ....DNA FORENSICS..

  • @Mogura87 actually, basque genes seem to be the highest percentage of Rh negative blood. meaning there is a different ancestor, or at least a significant mutation, than 85% of the human "race." have you ever heard about an expecting mother's body rejecting the child? it's usually because the mother is Rh negative and the child is Rh positive as a result of the father. being a foreign entity, the body's immune system will attack the child. there are treatments to help with this, though.

  • Racist idiots. This kid IS BASQUE, period. He speaks better basque than most of the so called basques. Zorijonak gazte ta segidu holan.

  • That boy has more fucking balls than those who claim to be Basque and have no will power to learn their ancestral language.

In my eyes he is a BASQUE, race does not matter

  • he doesn't look like a basque,

    he's cute though :)

  • Wow to all the why is he so dark if he is basque, like there was aneed to be native to speak a language. And, south american? Every other thing is southamerican for these spaniards, this kid is black, or am i seeing things?

  • it's good the kids know the language.

  • This is the first time I've seen a dark-skinned Basque. Oh well. I guess there's a first time for everything :D

  • Zer arraio, sekulan ez dozu Adarrak liburuan dagoan Beltz euskaduna deritzon ipuina irakurri ala? LOL!

    Bikain ein dozu txiki!!!

  • He is definitely not basque. Maybe half, but that thing is called a MESTIZO. Hell it looks more native than the Mexicans that are crawling all over the united states. Sad that they infected another European people and language. Either way that thing is neither Basque, Spanish, nor European.

  • You make it sound as if they're spreading a disease or an epidemic. Jeez.

  • Joe, etorkinak euskaraz egitean entzuteaz bihotzan zeozer sumatzen dut. Eskerrik asko!

  • why is this kid so dark?

  • might be a half blood basque or something like that. Basques are too white

  • because he is not spanish, from spain, he is southamerican. Now we have lot of southamericans in spain that's why he looks so dark.

  • Basque is not Spain asshole.... euskara aurrera!!!!!!!

  • Euskara aurrera!!!! botarate de mierda!!!!

  • Who the hell cares, he speaks Basque better than 70 percent of "real" Basque people, they're probably just jealous.

  • umetxo jatorra, segi horrela
