  • that song he plays on the piano is smile :)

  • You gotta know that everybody at that party switched sides when all the shit that nazis did were discovered. They were prolly like "Never liked those Nazis. I knew they were from the devil from the start." All snobby and posh. It discusts me.

  • 6:40-7:05 is the best line in any script ever written! GO CHAP MAN!

  • "You look a lot like him". No he doesn't. I know it's referred to the real Chaplin, but this is just funny when Robert dresses like Hitler. No resemblance whatsoever

  • Douglas Fairbanks was a great actor, too. Wounderful and charming. He's gone to soon.

  • the tone of this movie reminds of Amadeus..no surprise since only 6 or so years after the incredible hype it got.. the biographical dictation of a madman that keeps pullin the story out of chaos..in fact Anthony Hopkins looks alot like Salieri..who made off with the Oscar & not Mozart..wtf was that all bout. overall its a depressing story of how alone one really is..the Earth does spiritual sex magic to keep you entertained but comes a time you see right through it all..the illusion on screen.

  • "I know you, you bastard"

    Beautiful

  • charlie chaplin e cel mai tare

  • I keep coming back to watch that paulette clip.

I swear it's not even in the film

  • Smile was composed by Chaplin of course, but it was sung at the MJ Funeral because this was his favorite song and he even re-recorded ... MJ was a big fan of Charles Chaplin!

  • @bru177 & JERMAINE SANG it wrong but meh what can u do?

  • "i think so, you'd have to ask them."

aww! don't worry because you made billions of people smile with your movies and everybody from every country could watch them! xxx

  • best insult ever 07:04

  • Sorry im not english..what did he say??? I'm afraid..???

  • i'm not english either

he said after he was accused by the bald man of being a Jew. Chaplin says

    "I'm afraid I don't have that honour"

  • q looser la gente q creia q smile era una cancion de michael jackson... dahh! ¬¬

  • i love living in the 21st century so much technology. i believe Paulette geniunely loved Charlie. How did this movie not win best picture i think because Unforgiven won for this year even so best actor should of been RDJ

  • i know its not...im just teasin'

  • Damn nazis

  • oh my gosh. NO. SMILE was composed first. It was not created at M.J's funeral. ARGGHHHH

  • Too bad the scum politicians & corporate bankers don't have Chaz's ability to look @ themselves and say "shame on me." That's admirable and in Charlie's case he actually earned his wealth honestly

  • The part where you see Paulette dancing in gives me emotional goose-pimples.

    Its lovely.

I think if i saw this in real life or if i ever went back in time and was there at the premiere of M.T like a ghost from the future i would just be overwhelmed. This film and paulette are just amazing.Such legends.

I remember the first time i saw Modern Times ,im impressed with Paulette i just remember being in complete awe and she reminds me of me a little.

Why was i born in this era??!

  • These are such bland times, it's easy to fantasize living in some past era .. until I remember they didn't have computers LOL

    I'll stick w/ the 21st century ;)

  • There is no life i know that compares to pure imagination..living there youll be free..if you truly wish to be.

Yes, you do that, stick to the 21st century honey.youll have to, as its the only era we have at the moment

    ;)

  • It's such a poetic dance, isn't it?

  • Well no it's not a poetic dance..its just her twirling beautifully in circles thats poetic..but its mesmerizing slowed down,P.G was very symphonic

  • 02:20 - It's Smile! I love that song!

  • Beautiful isnt it :)

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH 4 POSTING THIS MOVIE!

  • Diane Lane is so hot

  • Charlie was smart to say what he said..and then leave it at that. It could have been worse, like getting into a fight.

  • it's funny, chaplin realized the nazi threat ten years before anyone else in that entire party

  • @mgordon980: Yes, again he recognized the signs of time before everybody else. "The Great Dictator" not only criticizes the Nazis, but also military in general and the US government because they didn't take Hitler seriously and saw a good ally against the communists in him.

  • about half way and then to the end, leaving a party

  • "What do you have against everyone else?"

    hah.

2:04-2:06 Is like something out of a dream.

    Paulette was magic

  • "I'm sorry i prefer not to shake hands with nazis" - "Hah, What do you got against us mr Chaplin?" -"...What do you got against everybody else?" and remember that it's authentic. That's why Chaplin is the only one that i have the deepest respect to. He seriously knew what he was talking about :)

  • true oh so true, the EXACT same attitude toward chaplin was directed at Winston Churchill also regarding the nazis. the irony was BOTH were labelled as being out of touch yet they were proved CORRECT over time.
