the first :25 seconds I thought it was a gay couple celebrating Christmas together. Then the guests arrive---ALL DUDES. So I guess it was a Tinkerbell party
For such a good re-make of this classic Christmas tune, I always thought they could've done a much better video. It's just too corny and silly!!! However, I always LOVED John Oates' Porn-Star Moustache and they show some great shots of him in this video.
I feel strangely aroused after watching this. There's just something about a dude with a porn 'stache, a christmas tree and ole saint nick that gets me going!
@MEXICA84 I was sure this version appeared somewhere in the home alone movie but its not listed on the songs list so i was probably wrong :( .. tell me if u find out ..
I sorely miss T-Bone Wolk. This is the first Christmas where I'm watching this video & he's not around. I met him & Charlie DeChant (their sax player) once after a concert on the streets in NY after Hall & Oates left in their limos & they hung around with the fans, speaking with us & taking photos with us. Thankfully my brother had his camera with him that day. T-Bone was one of the nicest guys around & a great bass player too. I remember he said he was leaving to go to his place in Vermont.
@tomcat13claws Haha I took one look at your page and you got the most fked up videos favourites. Charles Manson? Black Sabbath and aerosmith? LOL what are you like 50? Haha you stupid old man shut the fuck up and go to sleep.
Smith was their lead guitarist for a while in the 80's. He was at the Liberty Concert in '85. I'm pretty sure he left when Daryl went solo. Then when Hall & Oates got back together for their Ooh Yeah album, they had a completely new band.
Yeah. I think his last biggest performance was at the Liberty Concert on 7/4/85. He was probably on tour with them until their last performance date that year.
@petertao It is. They did 2 versions. Oates sings this version, the other version is Hall singing. The videos are different. This one shows Oates singing, the other shows Hall singing. And, I'm not sure, but I believe there is a third version of the song and the video where they are both singing.
wow why classic music is always the best simply they ROCKKKK!!!!!!! thanks for uploading it wasnt a very high quality but i play it over n over luv it ..
Sad to see T-Bone passed away last weekend from a heart attack (bass player) Him and GE Smith (Granny hear) were also band members with Paul Schafer for SNL for many years. Thanks for posting this--brings back memories.
Only the last 37 seconds of this video are different than the Hall version. I like this version better because I rarely ever hear John sing lead. I know Daryl is the primary songwriter but I just wish John would sing more.
Yes, very observant. Replacing that scene was a guy with a propeller on his head that starts spinning when he gets his present. Thanks for pointing that out.
@nyshortline Their manager, Tommy Mottola, thought that putting Daryl in the forefront would sell more records. It did. Hall & Oates became less of a duo and more of the Daryl Hall Show. Not that I have anything against Hall but pushing Oates back was a mistake artistically and possibly commercially. There were a number of Oates led songs from the 80's that should have been hit singles like "Italian Girls", "Friday Let Me Down", "Cold, Dark & Yesterday", etc.
@odinmp5 Yeah, he was a mixed bag - great manager but a real asshole. They kind of go together in my experience. You don't want a pussy nor a megalomaniac. H&O stuff from the 70's definitely show their prowess as a duo. If only that had carried over into the 80's +. The reason they broke up was Mottola wanted DH to have a solo career which he thought = more money than H&O. Ironically, RCA pulled the plug on his 1986 album after one Top 5 Hit. H&O were a known $ maker. Hall solo? Not so much.
@fortehlulz9999 Meaning RCA didn;t want Hall going too far off the reservation because his career might fizzle and H&O might suffer as a result and that was a bonafide money machine.
Someone posted in here that Daryl Hall turned 61!!!! He's still HOT!!! I knew he was born in the late 40's but cripes...That snuck up!! A 26 year difference...Not too shabby!! LOL!!!
I'm not sure it's possible to make a non-cheesy video for a song like "Jingle Bell Rock" (I like how _The Book of Ratings_ says "it barely qualifies as 'Jingle Bell Easy Listening'" LOL). This is pretty cute.
Rumor is, the original singer (Bobby Helms) said he straight out refused to sing the song, because he thought it was so insipid. He only recorded it because he was threatened with firing if he didn't.
I did not see this video before but love it. I like the merryand happy feeling they protraid. John sounds great. It's good looking back at how they looked then. They still look great today.
The really hokey acting, G.E. Smith as Granny with the guitar, and a decent rendition, too...I've been looking for this video forever!!! Thanks so much!

@nyshortline when they first started out in the early 1970s, John did sing lead quite a bit if that makes you feel any better.

@nyshortline Their manager, Tommy Mottola, thought that putting Daryl in the forefront would sell more records. It did. Hall & Oates became less of a duo and more of the Daryl Hall Show.
