  • Great Drum cover!

  • lol, "why are you reading my tags"

  • this is great playing. right in the pocket for most of the song and then showcasing some of what you can do. Very well done. And you enjoyed it too. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Mate fair play i wish i was that good, and the fill at the end was outstanding!! :)

  • hah this is probably how Keith Carlock played it with JM.

  • u are truly amazing 2 things 1 how old are you and two how do pay for all of ur equipment

  • i mean set

  • how much was your sek?

  • what kinda cymbals are those paiste ones?

  • 3:21 Beast mode ;D

  • so great...... i hope could meet u and studied together....

  • I want you in my band.

    And I am the drummer...

  • lovin the shuffle beat:)

  • @Muligan21 I don't think John Mayer is lucky enough to tour with Cobus... XD

  • your a great drummer.

  • Any chance you can make a cover of Belief by John Mayer?

  • Aweasome

  • If it sounds good it isn't over played and everything he did here sounded great!

  • I'm a drummer and I can somewhat agree that there was some overplaying in this cover but since he is just jamming to the music, it's perfectly okay to play around and add your own fills. But still, Cobus did a tremendous job and what he does fits the song.

  • Love it! I love how you are able to add your own flare to the song, but keep the same vibe of the original song! You sound absolutely amazing and your skill is unmatched!

  • you are so fokking good, i'm drummer too, and i could only dream of playing al your songs like this :p

  • i think i ruined my pants at 2:54 minutes

  • Nice groove.

  • check this out!! watch?v=L1BquX4IQRY

    2 drumsets, 2 drummers!!

mario bros / daft punk / soulja boy drum remix!!!

  • Smoke another Jimmeh

  • cute smile and you are awesome !!!

  • i just have one question. where is this being played at? cause it looks like an old abandoned theater haha

  • @monsterkiller93 its a church, he shows you it in one of his vids :)

  • 2:39 I had to play it 3 times so I make sure i didn't miss a thing <3

  • I think the main thing to look at in this is his Rhythm and passion in drumming. That he is very distinctive on his patterns and his every movement. Thats what real drumming is. Not this over fills *Cough Ricky Cough* and add as much as possible shit. Drumming is all about doing little and that little being everything :)

  • I want you in my band.

I don't care if my drummer sees this.

  • @emmarelle I'm sure he'd understand !

  • @emmarelle thats rude, give your drummer some respect dude :P hahaha

  • @emmarelle I thought you said "bed". And when you said "I don't care if my drummer see's this", I went :O

  • he did put in a bit too many fills, but i like this type of beat better from him than him just riding the crash. well done man.

  • ... Yeah... This was beautiful...

  • Groove Drummers are the future.

  • Is that a ROxanna Groove i hear in there.

  • Comment removed

  • Eww some please pass the ear bleach.

  • i played this song when i was 7... not nearlly this good, but just saying

  • From another drummer as well, sure, he overplayed it but John Mayer and Dave Matthews are the only modern, mainstream music where you can sit back and jam. We don't Kansas and Boston anymore. Songs like this just have grooves where you can really add some fun, complex licks in so i'm feeling him here. If he was playing with John on tour, i'm sure he wouldn't do this but, he's no on stage, he's just jamming to track.

  • @Muligan21 sure but for me if you're going to improvise to a track, your fills have to fit in with the style of the track and be in the right places. I kinda felt like his fills weren't really in the style of the track and they were a bit sloppy in places - having said that I've seen some of his other videos where his style of playing works a lot better. His Ke$ha cover was good.

  • @Muligan21 Dave Matthews? You can't even mention his name in the same sentence as John Mayer. If John Mayer is the subject, Dave Matthews is a 12 year old's cover band.

  • @Muligan21 Listen to the song.

  • I love Steve Jordan's drumming and I understand the technical side of all of this but has anyone ever told this guy that this sounds like garbage? Overplaying should be for drum solos. If it's Avenged Sevenfold I get it but not a ballad. It's just stupid. Thomas Lang wouldn't play it like this and he overplays everything. You have great chops man but this sounds awful. You have great meter too. Thank God Al Jackson didn't overplay.

  • Hey, speakin as a drummer myself..I wud juz lyk 2 say tht I love ur version of this song..!! U took it in ur own way n it was really, really great :D

maybe towards the end u overdid it wit a fills a lil bit but woteva..this is wot drumming is ol abt man..!! :D

  • YEAAAAAAAAHHHH! 500,000 veiwer..... I wouldn't care if it were like, ijustine..But it's Deedlebag so I'm criying out in success!! (Not showing off)

  • Too much. You just wanked on a good groove.

  • Cobus doesnt need to wait to change the world.. he is doing it..

  • think about it tho, you wouldn't complain that John Mayer is taking a 5 minute guitar solo would you? The thing is that this is a cover for entertainment on youtube. I would hope the guy wouldn't play like this in a band setting and would just stick in the pocket, but of course he will on youtube: its entertaining!! :)

  • this is pure beautiful

  • steve jordan is the modern master of playing wat simply needs to be played. and cobus, is the definition of drumming for pure enjoyment. look at how many drum covers hes done, just he likes to drum

  • it sounds like he slowed the song down a lil bit idk

  • Never noticed this, your playing in a large church or something. Is that true?

  • @MegaDrumCover4You Very True, He recorded his series' up to the latest one in his old Church

  • i love your perfect hi-hat groove. nicee

  • 2:16 = Oups for the splash ?. =D

  • do you know who is the drummer that played gravity???

  • 85 people are jealous

  • hahaha :) the like/dislike thingy looks like a saber against justin biebers videos :P

  • Comment removed

  • @roldster3

Why mention him? There's just no need.

  • @SamIsYourOwner Maybe, yeah. Even with that, Cobus is still winning in this video

  • 85 people are not waiting for the world to change. ha ha i like the added fills it gives the song more meaning. excelent cover.

  • really nice fills i think, the song has that really cool kinda off-beat thing about it nice!

  • i'm a guitarist and this inspires me to pick up my instrument :)

  • @Chubzter15 dude, why don't you make a mash up with cobus's covers? It'll be great. :)

  • @buzoooka94 hell yeah I love doing collabs

  • @CerealKiIIer How is his timing off?

  • @333hafevil1115 Just a few fills were rushed a little to fast but it's such a solid effort.

  • Awsome man, you want a really crazy request? Freebird & Hot for the teacher!!!

  • qualittyyy !! listened to it like 10 times ,, great drummmeeer,, pure raw talent

  • i like your shoes

  • for anybody who has somethin negative about cobus:

can anyone play better? :) doubt it

  • @gamingrules1 ...wow your a fucking gamer, get out of here... you obviously dont know drumming....thats his own style

  • I wish i had your skill

  • nice cover - - - - - but, u exagerated it big time w/ the head bobs and the swift movements

  • @gamingrules1 so what

  • he is no doubt an excellent drummer but i feel that he kinda overcomplicates the grooves, interjecting fills too often and it kinda detracts from the overall flow of the song. but maybe thats just me. it is very hard to better the likes of steve jordan though so all credit to him

  • @jedhemsley exactly

  • @jedhemsley I think that was the point of the series, in his later videos he tries to work with the songs a bit more. In this video I am not sure if his aim was to compliment the song, he was just having a bit of fun :)

  • @jedhemsley What I see is what every drummer "wishes" they could do in a song with out the fear of getting fired. Cobus has just opened the door to 100 different ways to handle a groove like this.

  • @jedhemsley I agree in a sense, what i mean by that is sure, in a live performance i would hate to hear to many fills. The thing you have to understand though, is that since it's an "only drums cover" he's playing a fun song adding his own twist to it and showing who he is as a musician and what he's capable of. However i do believe that if Cobus were playing with a band in his videos or in a live setting he knows not to interject so much. :)

  • @jedhemsley that's what makes cobus so awesome to listen to, thats why he does what he does. he takes the original song and puts lots of fun cool fills and beats into it, if you read his info he plays to have fun, not try and make the song easy to listen to. if you dont like his fills and stuff than just listen to the original song. thats why its a drum cover.

  • @jedhemsley over complicate my shit...he was perfect...no seriously he, he killed it.....lol

  • @jedhemsley I agree with what you're saying, but the reason he does all this is because it's a cover, meant to showcase his own skill, and not improve the flow of a song. He understands how to make a song better by backing down a little bit if you watch his cover with Tyler Ward, he doesn't do as many fills as he normally does, and plays extremely simple yet fitting beats.

  • @jedhemsley, that's why it's called a "drum cover", because he's making the song his own with his own beat.

  • @jedhemsley

Yes but Cobus wouldn't have posted just a normal cover, directly identical to the track itself. I think he fills it up to give it more of a different view, and show off his new ideas and technique.

  • @jedhemsley i couldn't agree more. he is an excellent dummer no doubt. but this song just doesn't call for all the drum fills. i'm a drummer myself, and i know the drums have a big hand in setting the mood for the song. however, in Cobus' defense, this is a "drum cover". So looking at it from that perspective, he did and excellent job. But if i saw this in a live John Mayer concert, i wouldn't be able to enjoy the song for being distracted by what the drums are doing.

  • @jedhemsley he does do quite a bit of different fills and stuff but even though that it may overtake the song a little thats wat keeps me interested in his videos because u dont no wat to expect because hes such an excellent drummer it seems everything he does blows me away hah :)

  • @jedhemsley - try doing what he does.... nobody can...post a reply if you can do better

  • @jedhemsley he said that he didn't like how he had done that in his videos. And you can see that his new videos are more creative than complicated. But you're right, he does sort of do that. Its also a video of drumming, so its a better visual thing to play complicated like this.

  • @jedhemsley maybe its just too complicated for simpletons like you? If by overcomplicated you mean fun to watch and jaw dropping then yes he makes it very very overcomplicated

  • @mrsdarling69 I dont think he meant it in a negative way.

  • @werdna96 well it certaintley wasnt positive so what is it? its like me saying your good at the guitar but you overcomplicate your riffs, im basically saying your showing off in a different way .

  • @mrsdarling69 I dont play guitar, im a drummer. I think that @jedhemsley believes that Cobus could be working harder than he needs to be. I say, if your having fun, do whatever you want to.

  • @mrsdarling69 Like hell it wasn't positive, it's called constructive criticism, and if it wasn't for that you're ass would still be hauled around in a Model T. Jed was suggesting that sometimes less is more when it comes to certain grooves and rhythms, so piss off troller.

  • @MrSnowballd And you know he meant that how? do you speak for him? if he was giving constructive criticism then he has a funny way of showing it and im not a troll, learn the definition of troll .Also you really think constructive criticism was the cause of the development from the model T? your an idiot, Progress is enivatble so i would not be "hauling around" in a model T. Especially during that time period with the technological revolution so yea piss off simpleton

  • @mrsdarling69 Wow you are dumber than a fucking box of rocks you dipshit. How the fuck do you think we have cars better than the model T? Progress is made through actions not inevitability clearly you need to make progress on your spelling asswipe. And just where the fuck do you get off with the I speak for him BS. Learn what a troller is yourself the next time you try and defend your measly ass. Or wait don't even bother cause it's "Too complicated for a simpleton like you" STFU & GTFO Troller

  • @MrSnowballd lol before you call someone dumn why dont you go back to the comment and see that your actually agreeing with me about the model t statement, lol (this is my other account) and my spelling is pretty good, i dont see why it matters if obviously you know what im trying to spell out, this isnt a spelling test. and why are you so mad my naive friend lol? just relax, you dont have to call me names and get all mad to get your point across...theres not enough space is this box so yea bye .

  • @mrsdarling69 Yes yur spellin is amazhen. If you go back and check your own friggin statement your point was that the Model T could not have come from criticism and that progress will be made wether we like it or not. MY point is that things can NOT progress without constructive criticism. Of course you wouldn't know, you probably have never been in an economics class -.- (Which I can tell because you seem to think you were replying from another account. Not enough room to swear P.O. Assmaster.

  • @MrSnowballd lol i dont think this is my other account, i know it is, this is my sisters so i was just pointing that out...you just that things progress from action? criticism is not action as far as im concerned. People will always find a way to progress regardless of criticism. You think there were people criticizing on the first voyage to the new world hmm? do you think the colonists were criticising each other to make things better? No they took action like you said, talk is cheap . gooday

  • @mrsdarling69 you are a fucking retard

  • @jedhemsley Pretend I replied back with a witty comment .

  • @mrsdarling69 simpletons like me? how can you make such an unevaluated judgement when you havent even met me. By stating something so brash and self prophetic you in fact come across as the simple one here. Did you even read my comment? At no point did i question his skill or ability, which is technically excellent, more the manner in which it was applied. Finally, given that my comment has infinitely more likes and thus more general appreciation as valid than yours, i bid you goodnight.

  • @jedhemsley lol ok how long it take you to look up those words? did i say you questioned his ability or skill? NO. Since your so smart go back and read my comment and make another intelligent response .

  • @jedhemsley I can see where you're coming from for sure, but I have to say, I feel like these videos are more about cobus' drumming than the actual song. Perhaps if you view the video as an exposition of technique rather than a simple cover it might seem less complicated.

  • @jedhemsley the point isnt to go with the flow of the song. its to show off. its a cover.

  • @jedhemsley yea ur right there is a lot of fills, but i dont think that i ruins the flow, cause the fills fit totally perfect. that is the way i see it, and u have the right to ur own opinion :)

  • @jedhemsley When you're as good as him, sometimes it just gets too boring.

  • @jedhemsley that's an opinion I always get from some people when I play drums, but I have to say I disagree It doesn't detracts anything, it makes it funnier

  • @jedhemsley but this is a drum cover. You can see in all of hes videos, that he wants to showe hes skill in drumming. not just playing the actually beat. so he fills up the beat, so ppl can see what he can do. Im not saying steve jordan cant do this! this is a cobus druming cover. Get used to it

  • Well. you're awesome. All of your covers amaze me.

  • Nice flow, but timing's off.

  • Are you John Mayer ? I mean, are you the guy that invent the song because you seem to have invented the song how you play naturally.

  • What paiste pst5 are those rock or medium?

    An the splash?

    thanks, you rock cobus

  • @SuperBaller2020 They are pst5s medium, and the splash is an Istanbul Mehmet I think. I read it somewhere a while ago... :)

  • Like to see you do some Rush/ Neil Peart with your own flavor...

  • @jonvball23 I second that. I'm still trying to learn my favorite song by Rush One Little Victory on drums. Probably one of the hardest drum beats out there to follow.

  • In the discription he says he misses something on 2:18. but i don't think anybody cares of has noticed it :p

  • this is african representation.........for all you people that said we live in tree......nuff said

  • The thing about Cobus is that he is a rock drummer. He plays rock music. Granted, he's great great at it, he's brilliant, but he can't play jazz. He's stuck on heavy rock. He doesn't overplay on this at all. He's just stylistically approaching this song differently from how he's supposed to. This song needs a much jazzier drum part, and Cobus obviously doesn't know how to do that. He hasn't made the jump from ROCK to JAZZ.

  • i know how good cobus is as a drummer, but his style definitely doesn't suit this song. steve jordan's drumming is one of the best things about this song, and it hasn't been done justice in this cover

  • how does it feel to be on the top of the drumming pyramid? cause' honestly, i'm on the bottom.

  • Som people play music becuse they wanted other people to appluade and they want girl to like them.

But when i see that smile at the end, brother, You enjoy playing music. Keep on drumming

  • Great Cover one of my favorites of yours of course,

Wondering if you could make one for Brick House by The Commodores, Please and Thank youu, keep jamming (:

  • 2:42 WTF WAS THAT

  • @Musician4231 epic

  • @Musician4231 RIGHT?! GAH!

  • 'holy fuck shit . nuf said

  • Steve Jordan would be disappointed

  • what a stud.

  • Hey wondering can you put the drums only version i would love to jam the guitar and vocals to this.

  • 2:56

    <3

  • his swing is horrid

  • dude, do a dave matthews band cover. it seems like it would be right up your alley because all carter beauford does is jam out. its like a prefect fit.

  • @bradtebble hes on time...

  • it's not that the original versions of the songs cobus covers are boring,

cobus just brings out the full potential of the song
