  • I know this on bass

  • I know on bass

  • i ought this is an easy solo lol :P

  • He really nailed the tone too, think i need to get a pod

  • I really like this video, if you are having any issues following it,like me, find and print out the tab for help, worked well for me.

  • Can these amp,cab and effect parameters be done on the POD HD 500?

  • Good vid besides one problem :P

  • I adore

  • Is that a Fender Stratocaster?

  • @rrrajiv1234567890 no way, seems like some Jackson

  • Thanks, that was a great lesson.

  • my fingers bleeding, ouch@

  • From Argentina ¡Great Lesson!!!!! congratulations duey101

  • 2:19 the most difficult part..

  • Im 58 and I play guitar for decades, but only after seeing this tutorial I finally realized how great player Gilmore is. Thank you man!

  • I'm not watching this to learn. I'm watching this to enjoy the great cover of the greatest guitar solo ever made! However it's a great tutorial

  • Thank you great lesson

  • dude i just saw your intro and instantly subscribed

  • Excellent!

  • Hello, nice job man!

Can you please tell me your amp setup for this song?

Are you playing clean or with a really smal distortion?reverb 2?

    Thank you, please answer

  • @69juggler69 Settings are in the description. :-)

  • @69juggler69 clean amp settings bit of reverb and a compressor, Epic sound from so little

  • stratocaster ftw <3

  • I do this bend on G string.

  • say goodbye to your B string :)

  • best tutorial so far.....thanks dude....i got a show this friday and need to learn this solo quick!

  • What effect are you using here?

  • I like all these solo vids. It make learnig a new tune so much easier than the old days of play cassett tapes back and forth. If you no what I mean.

  • @snodgrassr12

Somehow, that method worked better - the tune would get stuck in your head, you would never forget it, you'd end up with a personal version of the solo provided you were dedicated enough to learn it that way.

  • But I don't recommend using super glue though!

  • POD huh? must mean pick of destiny thats what i need to play this.... damn

  • thank you very much for this lesson. i find this no nonsense, no blah blah blah sort of lesson the easiest to follow.

  • Is it me or part 4 is the most defficult part? I mean i have it now but it took me 4 hours of practice.

  • Thank you, this video really helped me :)

  • Crimen Sollicitationis

  • I broke my fingers..

  • wonderful explanation

  • SuperCALLUSfragilisticBENDpialidocious to play this solo!

  • Hello duey! Thank you for the your lessons! And just how i have known about POD Xt Live from you I bought it (I like your sound very much). Before I bought POD XT Live I didn't believe that it is possible to get SO AMAZING sound from ONE guitar processor... But after...when I tried to download patches from your site and download this patches to POD xt live....i get very very very good sound. THANK YOU!

P.S. Pink Floyd is my favorite group, and David Goilmour is my favorite gutarist.

  • Super calluses come to me!!!

  • CAN u give me the link of the tab please

  • Are your strings 0.10??

  • nice playing man!

Are you Gary Moore`s Brother? :-D

  • ahh my fingers! great lesson dude

  • ive been trying to work the intro out for years but could never get it. tanks heaps !

sweet child o mine took me ages too..never got how slash dropped the note half a tone :-\

  • perfect

    thanks so much....

  • well super slinkies aint got shit

  • Great video!!!!!!! Congratulations.

  • 18 people broke their B strings

  • @duey101

    ahhaahah right on man

  • @duey101 19! haha

  • @duey101 21 people are wearing g-strings.

  • I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos. I have recently picked up guitar after 2+ decades of studying bass (classically trained). I also have a fair amount of string pedagogy under my belt. While I don't know your background, it is refreshing to see such good demonstrations; no talking, no entertainment, just showing the part. In a sea of bad instructional videos I call what you are doing sound pedagogy. Thanks. I have always wanted to play Gilmour.

  • i respect ur lesson but its horrible to learn the solo cuz its too fast explanation dude u must do it chord by chord =X

  • Hey, very nice lesson, but would you mind including "solo" in the title? Just a little remark. :)

  • use graphite , this will help you strings slip back into being intune

  • The 17 people that disliked this video had broken their B strings doing section 3.

  • Please post your POD settings! Thanks for the great lesson.

  • Hey, what is your settings for this. I don't have a POD XT but I'm thinking about buying one. What would you use when you play this on an amp?

  • hmm... my 2nd string hit my in my face when i was trying to do that bending, anyway, you are awesome no like that bullshit that you can find on other videos

  • Is it necessary to use a Fender-like guitar? The bend you do is quite hard to do with my Gibson-like Guitar...

  • @skodanera Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's generally easier to do these bends on Gibson style guitars because they tend to have a larger fret radius than Fender style guitars. This has been my experience.

  • @SodiumMonkey I think Gilmour played this on his Les Paul too ;)

  • @balee94 I believe you are correct!

  • The super bending, wow I just broke that string trying to do that with one fret bending, I just learned to slide over frets and return with the bending still going, works perfect for me.

  • man my strings keep goin outta tune doin the gilmor bend

  • @originalMOON3R thats why i have floyd rose on my git :D

  • @originalMOON3R My Floyd Rose is even crying :| I thought that thing was invincible!

  • @scotty688 I've never been able to get a floyd rose to play this solo without going out of tune, and I had a floyd rose bridge for years.

  • @originalMOON3R not saying you didnt but....restring it properly...more winds around the machine head less likely itll go out of tune..and/or break

  • ive got blisters on me fingers!!! yeew, now im a guitarist!

  • @CrazyGerman08 Surgical spirit is your friend, use it after a good long session. SRV used to use super glue to cap his finger tips!

  • its that easy? hahahaha

  • When you bend, make sure that your hand isn't resting on the guitar. That means the only part of your left hand touching the guitar is your thumb and the fingers that you're using for support. Hope that helps. :)

  • Dude, that is one hell of a super bend, how the hell Gilmore pull those off without tearing his fingers apart.

  • Thanks btw

  • For me it works great to learn 2 or 3 segments and practice them with his/your cover. I always start of slow and when it goes good enougn i do it together with your solo cover so i have the right speed.

  • Dude this ripped my callus of my middle finger.......now theres a big hole there >:(

    Great lesson though!!!!

  • @fannyslapper33 almost the exact thing happened to me jus the i dont have a huge hole

  • thx ...

  • i´m starting learnig it right now! I hope I get it as soon as possible! Thaks a lot!!!!

  • The Problem i have with his solo is.. i cant make my amp or guitar sound like that! :( i have a Gibson Les Paul Studio, and Marshall 30Watt Amp and Digi-Tech RP90 Effect Pedal.. So i think i have the right stuff. Please help! ps.. im kinda new with the electric guitar so idk what the settings do on my amp.. =/

  • @032960roger

high lows, low higs, high mids, compression, delay at about 600ms with a bit feedback and level at about 30%, chorus at slow speed (0.73 Hz), reverb and a bit of distortion (but not too much) :D

  • @032960roger I can only speak for what sounds good for me. I use clean channel with a little gain (4/10), decent amount of reverb (5/10) and a touch of delay

  • this is my favourite solo of all time, I love how heavy and bluesy it is. Thanks for sharing this mate, awesome job.

  • Spork: Dude, you're asking for tabs? Joke, right?

  • Best instructional vid on the tube. Every note right on. The only other version that's recreated faithfully is the French dude, however, he just blows through it - not saying that's bad, but certainly not easy to cop. Your's is truly a great instruction. (Had to lol at "my strings won't go that far" comment. My sentiments too! However, I'm runnin .012's on a Tele - they really won't go that far! But I just slide up 2 frets and bend the extra from there - can be made seemless.

  • can i have the tabs for this? please :D

  • Which guitar is that?

look a bit like my Pacifica

    good lesson btw

  • Doin' this in a guitar workshop an no-one does the proper solo...thanks cos now I can!!! If I could make it sound as sweet as you I'd be a really happy man.

    Cheers M8

  • great lesson! awesome play. thanks man!

  • Dude thanks for all the vids I've learned so much. You got the best tutorials on the net. Way to spread the music!!

  • segment 4 is quite impossible. i hate it. but i will do it!

the lesson is good but i can't always see where your fingers are pressing or wich string you're playng. this song is my life.

  • @inoshikacho92 Keep trying and listening :D

  • THE best lesson out there!

My fingers hurt, but I've almost got it :)

    Thanks for sharing!

  • very well done, very inspiring. and god my fingers are sore

  • I have elixir strings and they didn't broke.....

  • outstanding, what kind of amp do you use for comfortably numb and Another brick in the wall?

  • What number of strings you use???

  • can't always tell where your fingers are pressing. still, it's the best tutorial for this song i've found

  • man thanks for the vid you are the best by far nice work

  • one of the best lessons on tube

  • Cool you learned me bends which I held for impossible :D

  • @duey101 Please, could you make a tab?

  • This is a great way to learn, thanks a lot!

  • man i wish my solos sounded this clean....

may be i need to get better gear...

  • Bar far the best solo instructions on the internet simply because I can see your fret board, your fingers and you are doing it right in front of my face segment by segment...........and slow............thank you for realizing that there are players out in the world who don't move fast until we know and understand it. Please let me know of all the solos you teach and I will learn them one by one! Great job mang!

  • very good lesson...

    congrats,master...

    XD...

  • @duey101 buy martins''11

  • @ericgobucks73 the 14 people who dident like this video need a bullet.

  • can youmake tab please

  • I really enjoyed with "pink floyd" and learnt something. thank you sir.

  • whats the tuning??? i need to know soon, as i have my guitar in drop D#, and would like to learn this song :D

  • @VinnyBenson i guess its standard, EADGBE (:

  • Comment removed

  • wow, your lessons are awesome. Best Gilmour on youtube. If you offerd a dvd for the entire album I would buy it. PLEASE, PLEASE do the Animals album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've been trying to calluses for a long time now! I just can't get them! I'll start to get them and then they rip off when I continue to play. Are there any exercises that you know of that can help me develop strong calluses like yours??

  • @goblah5

its the ripping and healing process happening over and over again repeatedly over time that builds calluses. keep playing and you'll get them.

  • @goblah5 Violinist's use emory board's, why not guitarist's?

  • @duey101 ok thx :D btw, u kick ass dude lol

  • Dude, my strings wont even go that far? Any advice, maybe differnt tuning? They're ernie balls super slinky

  • @Number9434 Using lighter strings may help too, but they won't help you get calluses like the ones you have now.

  • @Number9434 If you mean the double bend thing, my mate bend's it up from the 13th fret a whole tone(15th) and sort of mute's it or cut's it off quickly and then quickly move's up to the 15th and bend's up again if you know what I mean. Personally I prefer the double bend way but he does it the mmoving up way and it sound pretty good. his name's catshitsoup on here if your interested. He does a rough version of brick in the wall with the bt I mean that's all.

  • @Number9434 Give Elixer strings a try. You won regret it I promise

  • @desiredfx my strings are elixer, i have them for like a month and they still got a great sound... you really won't regret (:

  • @Number9434 Try some 9's to learn this solo and you can hit the bends. Then move up to 10's after you can play it perfect and you'll get the sustain.

Great video as far as teaching style, although it's not 100% acurate. Still the best video I've seen so far. Watch a few others, get a tab, and of course listen to the song and you can nail it.

  • @Number9434 try to practice bending nylon strings, then go back to playing with steel strings you'll notice your fingers will get a lot stronger. haha

  • @Number9434 they will i have the same strings as you

  • You really helped me out. THANKS!

  • Dang unlike other songs Pink Floyd is always as hard as it sounds

  • This has helped me so much. BRAVO!

  • is there a tab you used with it? just so it makes it a little easier to get the playing right. thank man

  • thak you, it is greate tutorial :)

  • Its cool but I feel that if I try this for real my strings will broke...

  • Hey nice vid i am wondering what brand are your strings? d adario?

  • nice playing

  • Damn awesome, helped me alot. Is that a 2 1/2 step bend? Now wonder strings are breaking. All hail the god of suastain gilmour!

  • thank you so much for this, how do i get the almost exact tone for rhis song ??

  • the same thing happened to me, thats success right there, thanks for the video really helping me out right now.

  • you should put up a lesson for the Have a Cigar solo. that would be rad

  • 2:10

  • I broke my e string learning this too. :D

Btw, beautiful playing man.. suits the beautiful solo. =)

  • Great video, but could you post your picking paddern?

  • wow that was superb, just how gilmour him self did it. great lesson realy well put together. not that i can play it mind lol. thanks

  • What guitar do u use?

  • O.K., upgraded to the Squier Standard for my birthday last month. sounds much better than the $25 special I was playing. - Will probably wait a couple years before I upgrade to a "real" strat, because I'm happy as a clam right now! Thanks for teaching this old dog some new tricks duey!

  • muy bueno very goood

  • Nice lesson, anyone should be able to play the solo with pratice now.

  • Comment removed

  • the difficult part of this solo is doing the bends correctly

  • Great tutorial :) Could you tell me where I can get this backing track from, please?

  • clear and easy to follow tutorial, don't worry about all the negative comments. this is great to get the essence of the solo. and then play around with it after that and make it our own. ;O)

  • @MRollRoll - Gilmour never plays it the same way twice nor would any guitarist! This video is this guy's interpretation youre just being a pretentious prick dude....go have a word with yourself and come back to youtube when youve got something constructive to add.

BTW Duey best cover Ive seen. Youre double string bends are extremely good and I know just how long it takes to get there....Im years in to my journey and still not nailed them like you have...my hats off dude.

  • wait how did you use the pod xt again? is there any post-processing?

  • Thanks a million bro! You're amazing and you've helped me learn a lot of Floyd songs.

  • really helpful for getting the rhythm down after I get tabs, thanks :D and great tone btw

  • TE SALIO CHINGON...

  • MIS RESPETOS BROTHER 5 ESTRELLAS...

  • lo idescriptibleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • do you think you could get tabs for this? you did a very nice job by the way.

  • Best lesson, clarity and explanation of any post I have seen. Hats' off to you - Thanks!

  • muy bueno!

    un primer plano buenisimo.

    gracias

  • Are the D'Addario XL 110 strings as easy to bend as they look in this video?

  • Yes, if you have really callused fingertips like I do! :D

  • @duey101 ernie ball super slinky 10 guages bend really easily, but dont feel too flimsy like some 10 guages. and i rarely break them. very rarely.

  • good work , 5 stars , thanks for posting :)
