well Mr. Jazz DJ, JL is obviously influenced by artist such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway but that doesn't mean he is trying to be them. He's bringing in his own music with tones and lyrics that are true to him. There are so many artists that cant play instruments and cant actually sing. At least he's bringing genuine singing ability. An artist isn't defined by how he copies but how he/she creates.

I noticed in college that many people who enjoyed "Cool Jazz" did not like works by Monk or Miles because they were so different.
