  • A female emcee is like a poet... speaking truth from within... why do some of these women think they gotta go so hard all the time? Its not cute... you can speak your feelings without acting like a dude ladies... be real! I checked Eternia's tracks and she got a nice flow but I'm not rlly impressed just cuz her attitude is so nasty. Its a turn off. And this is coming from a female emcee, I am an emcee!

  • Cookies and Comas was ill but not too familiar with Eterna or any other female MC. Eterna and Invinicble will have so much hell in her career because they are women and white too. In rap as a whole most people can only name two white rappers Eminem obviously and maybe Mac Miller. Good luck I will support you.

  • if you dont know, now you know. i just found out, incredible flow, and evident though, trust, theres no doubt, she might just prevail, over the oceans she sails, as one of the most ferocious, and dopest of females, its oh shit, for real tales just notice the details, its over for re tail, its hopeless if she fails... hip=hop!

  • SUPPORT FEMALE HIP-HOP LOG ON UNDERGROUNDGIRLSOFHIPHOP (DOT) COM YA HEARD

  • Dope, altho I can't really hear the lyrics, that happens tho with live recordings. Check out my flows??? What u guys think?

  • "We're ladies and we rap, where you been at?"

  • I don't care how much skill a female MC has... most dudes don't wanna listen to aggressive content from a woman.

  • @ThaNotoriousBEN That's because most guys have a lot of insecurities about themselves.

  • Damn Eternia looks like my x gf lol

  • finally

  • whats the name of the song at 3:40?

  • Whoop Whoop

  • what about Sima Lee?

  • Nikki ain't got nothing for Eternia! Eternia reached out to the legend herself, MC Lyte and current legend, ill spitter Jean Grae. Meanwhile, Nikki beefing with Kim over stupidness. I'm rockin with Etternia!

  • Shes dope ! My nmr 1 stays Mc Lyte....Listen to ma track Butterfly or Leaving

Bigg Up to All The Female Mc's !

  • @jackhammer250 I like the list although I would take JJ fad out of the groups and put Da 5 Footaz,Deadly Venoms, or Frick & Frack.

  • @boriquacub76 You very right about that as far as the 5 FOOTAZ GO and DEADLY VENOMS must say I was sleeping on both groups until about 10 minutes ago when I decided to do a little research on both groups and must I say I very impressed. I don't know how these ladies slip past me. That one song called the HEIST I would it hear but could not pinpoint who made. BUT THIS GOES TO SHOW YOU HOW LITTLE EXPOSURE FEMALE MC'S GET

    Other than that go lookin..

  • @jackhammer250 No doubt! check out Frick & Frack too they were produced by Marley Marl they were recording from 86-89. Straight up NY chicks along the lines of Salt N'Pepa and Finesse & Synquis. They should have been bigger.

  • @boriquacub76 Yeah I checked out Frick & Frack and they were the first ones that I checked for at first I didn't think it was a group because when you type in Frick and Flack two white guys come up.so I added rap group to it and it came up. As far as making a comparison to their peers of the 80's they were ok. they just didn't catch my attention like the Five Footas and Da Deadly Venoms To embrace them a little more I would have to see some old video footage

  • is she half black half white? she is hot i like her very sexy mmmmm 0:35 lookin so fine

  • lol Jean Grae is awesome

  • she sounds like a dude

  • JEAN GRAAEEEE =]

  • R.I.P. Female emcees??? When Lauren Hill, MC Lyte, Foxy Brown and the likes actually die, then I'll consider saying "R.I.P....". I DO, however, understand if that statement refers to the mainstream female trash that use oversexualized lyrics and content for mass marketability...etc. All female rappers aren't EMCEES.

  • Legend building...

  • Ok it's like this with out a female and a man we would not survive and exist as there for to carry on our existence in human living as there for to have baby's and elevate more. This is the same as I feel in Hip Hop for it to carry on elevate more and exist in the future all Hip Hop heads need to think on this and who ever listens to real Hip Hop like this. Before we going dish a female Mc like were they at etc, enjoy real Hip Hop heads, peace Geebeats.

  • i fucks with this. fucks with it thorougly.

  • THATS MY GIRL!!!!!!!

  • glad you bringing females to the forefront of hiphop ma. always been supporting and while keep doing so. can wait til your album drop. you and skyzoo are the main heads i'm waiting for albums from so lets get it mama....

  • I support Canadian music 100%

  • Swag, I respectfully disagree. Why does a new style have to be invented just to appeal to get commercial success? Whatever just happened to making good, quality music?

I like anybody who has skills on the mic, and I will support that artist as long as they remain true to themselves and their music. Eternia is a beast on the mic, much like Jean and Lyte. I wish the mainstream could see what I see and reward those with skill and not those with a gimmick. We all know they're dumb though.

  • Times change, and so do people. What was hot back in 1984 isn't gonna be hot in 2009 and so one. I feel like you have to be able to change with the times, and audiences. Making good music is one thing, being able to sell it is another.

  • Example..The New Boyz-Your a Jerk is a stupid ass song with no lyrical content, BUT on the other hand, the young kids 18-19 year olds go crazy in the clubs when it plays, and thus, they are doing the dance, and wearing Tight fitted jeans..It may NOT be fair, but they are appealing to an audience...When female rappers say apart of the problem of them not making it in the industry is because its male dominated is to me a bunch of bullcrap.

  • When I say bargin themselves as a product, I mean come up with something new, advertise themselves, use themselves as a commerical....What I mean by this is, I dont see FEMALE MC'S creating a new style that hasn't been done already. FOR EXAMPLE: I haven't seen a female mc do something crazy, like wear a chain that says BIG ASS CHAIN, or create a dance, or making a fashion statement. They dont broadcast themselves like the men do, and thus is why they will remain in their shadow.....

  • The reason Female Mc's of today can't get a record deal is because they can't bring anything NEW to the table. People already saw the MC Lyte's, The Lil Kim's, The Foxy Brown's, and now what next? Female rappers want the same respect the men get in the game but aren't stepping outside the box to GAIN that same respect. IF Female Rappers really want to get on, they would bargin themselves as products like the men do.

  • man....yall ever think that the way society has presented women in the past 10yrs as desperate, golddiggin, dumb, skanky, slutty, backstabbing bitches on these popular reality shows has contributed to the lack of respect that female MCs have received.....just a theory...

  • I think its because they don't bring anything new to the table like the guys do. They dont have a gimmick to themselves.

    Example: T Pain: Autotune

    Example: Soujia Boi: Superman Dance

Im saying, they need to come up with something NO female mc has done already...Why support the remixed version of what youve already seen 111121 times already?..lol

  • damn....its sad when we gotta encourage women to be like T-pain n Soulja Boy....

  • ....Did you read my comment...NO where did i encourage them to be like T pain and Soulja Boy...I said they need to broadcast themselves and appeal to ALL audiences. I said they need to have a gimmick to sell records.

  • fuck the gimmicks.....thats whats wrong with rap as a whole in the first place...my initial question wasnt about what women have to do....it was about what has happened over the past decade....i dont even wanna ask what do women have to do....because to be honest, a lot of men need just as much help to stay afloat in today's industry. the top rappers arent even true to the core "rappers" theyre a rock/r&b/pop hybrid of rap. its sad what has happened to the artform. well rap on a mainstream level

  • It is what it is, Like I stated before what was popular in 1984 isn't gonna be popular in 2009 and so on and so fourth... Gotta be able to change with the time. What has happened on the past decade? Change. Point blank.

  • so even if its obvious that what the culture is "changing" into will eventually cause its demise....rappers should "change" along with and assist the destruction of hip hop that we initially fell in love with...? to stay afloat with these BS mainstream artists? and to stay appealing to the buying public....?....i dont know, thats a path of destruction that needs to be eradicated, not assisted by "changing" along with it....

  • Lol, its obvious our views are completely different on this issue. I feel like female rappers place the blame on everybody else except themselves. I feel like, if they don't like whats going on in hiphop culture as far as the woman, then they should do something about it, instead of complaining.

  • Could of, Should of, Would of isn't the answer. I still think the answer is self promotion. Twitter is a powerful tool, why not use it to its advantage? Youtube is another powerful tool, Why not use it to its advantage? Im not seeing Female Mc's puttin out Mixtapes...The only reason why I winded up on this page was because I was looking up Mc lyte.

  • I think that has a lot to do with it, but I also think that it's the fact it's a male-driven industry. And personally, I think it has something to do with the fact that the most popular female MCs of the last 10+ years have always either flaunted their sexuality or fallen back to it. That's not a bad thing in doses, but when every song is about sex, it gets to be too much. Don't get me wrong though, dudes do it too, and it's just as dumb then. I have a MAJOR issue with the mainstream.

  • I dont think its a mainstream issue. They aren't doing enough to make it happen for themselves. Look at Jadakiss...Jadakiss has been out now for how many years, How many albums he had that NEVER went platinum before...Jadakiss changed that for himself. He's on youtube, Uploading videos at least twice a week. He's on twitter, He's broasting himself, It helped him with his latest project that was on the top of the charts for weeks straight. Its all about making yourself known and marketable.

  • Maybe it's a little bit of both. Think about what you're saying swaggalicious. That's pretty much the same rhetoric that white folks used to make excuses for why many black folks can't get ahead. Replace "female emcees" with "black office worker" and you'll see what I mean. The fact of the matter is that the industry is gender biased, and sure female emcees have to put in more work, but I guarantee you that work is twice as hard for a female emcee than it is for a male emcee.

  • I disagree. Look at Nicki Minaj, She thinks outside the box. Even before she Met up with lil wayne, She was doing the come up dvd's with fendi HERE ON YOUTUBE... She marketed herself FIRST. She's twittering with her fans on twitter, She post videos atleast 3 times a week on youtube, and She puts out Mixtapes. So i guess now the excuse will be that she was BACKED by lil wayne and young money, when in fact she was grinding before he came in the picture.

  • A few anecdotes don't prove anything.

I could give you stories of Black folks who broke the glass ceiling, but does that mean that their not at a disadvantage?

Same thing here. I'm sure it's because she's backed by Lil Wayne she's getting exposure. She's still not even on the map for most people yet, so she's not even that good example. Ask any regular dude on street if they know her, I guarantee you they don't.

  • I begg to differ, She gets radio play here in NYC, and as I stated in my last comment, Your next excuse was gonna be she's getting that exposure because she's backed by Lil wayne...So i guess ALLLL the female rappers of the past got put on because they were backed by men????...Are you able to make a valid point without using the race card back after back in both comments?

  • It's not playing the race card, it's presenting an analogy. Me playing the race card would be me saying you don't like what I'm saying because of the color MY skin. It's a valid analogy. It's the comparison of sexism in the industry to racism in the workplace. Not all women got put on cuz of men, but to deny that Lil Wayne doesn't have influence is naive. I'm just sayin women have to work harder. Ur saying that there is essentially zero females are on the map cuz they aren't workin? Bull.

  • I said she was grinding BEFORE lil wayne came in the picture...Nicki Minaj had Come Up Dvds BEFORE she got discovered by lil wayne. Thats a fact... I dont think they have to work harder, I think they don't promote. Well, are there female mc's on the map? HMM lets see..As of right know, I dont know any who currently HAVE a record deal...So I just PROVED my point....

  • You used Nicki Minaj as an example of how to promote? Lol. I've never heard of Nicki Minaj until I heard a mixtape where she was featured on Lil Waynes high as a kite mixtape. You can't be more then 14-15 years old because you definitely dont know the history on female rappers.

  • Man are you retarded? That no talent having Nicki got play because she got on her back. Please!

  • She's not on the map as a major artist, but she has a huge audience....Thats another Female MC named Ms Harlem who has a HUGE audience online? She's just broasting herself, She's not backed by any artist....So whats the excuse this time?

  • I'd like to know what you think a huge audience is. If these names are so big, how come they are barely mentioned on major blog sites like TSS or NahRight? Are any of these female emcees doing Lil Wayne numbers? Even Drake numbers? Getting play in one region isn't doin it big, man.

  • I'd like you to count how many female emcees you consider big, then count how many male emcees are bigger. Your anecdotes aren't enough to explain why there are barely any female emcees getting airplay.

  • Ultimately, except for the lucky few, the industry selects who they like, who they sign, and if you're telling me it's because female emcees just simply aren't working hard enough because it's equally as easy for them, you're living in a perfect world where everyone hugs and kisses and everything's fair. Please let me know how to get to your world, because I wanna be there.

  • Or maybe because once they had that major, put on ONE album, then got lazy in comfortable in that setting, didn't put out another album to 3 years later, which in that time, another female mc came in the picture taking that artist torch...

  • Since you think im wrong with my views, What do YOU think will change or should change for them to get noticed?

  • More females in executive positions in the music industry. The elimination of the objectification of women in Hip Hop, generally in the world even. Record executives not choosing by race/gender who to sign/promote (fact: this happened to the Asian-American group Mountain Brothers). A recognition of skills regardless of gimmicks. BTW, soon as I read you put "wear a chain that says BIG ASS CHAIN" I knew we could never come to an agreement. Let's leave it here and just stop arguing. Truce?

  • LOL....Truce, but lets make on thing clear...My i said BIG ASS CHAIN, I meant Stand out from others...Not as if they should do the same thing...I think you may have misread what my meaning was...

  • Ever consider why they dont get airplay, or the respect from industry major companies is because they damaged there own image 12+13 years plus, where nobody respects nothing they have to say anymore?

  • da lyteness!this vid is truly dope...eternia,keep it up...props to grae too...

  • NICE> :D

  • Hope a lot of people get to see this... same people sayin that shit are sayin Hip-Hop is dead. They're just too lazy to look for the gold.
