granaet(dot)nl I checked out your web page with Google's Crome web browser, it will translate the Dutch to English... You have a very cool site... tons of photos and I did find some Pioneering work..lashings... but I wondered, it looks like they are building a city out of Pallets (you put freight on them and load in a truck). What is that all about? Looks like a lot of Scouts are having a lot of fun with hammers and nails!
I would love to grow Bamboo here in Indiana, USA. But, it's too cold. The 35' logs bent as we lifted the tower up. We pulling them back into a straight alignment with rope. The kinetic energy of a 35' maple 6" diameter log was huge. I can see making a giant bow (and arrow) with one. As the wood dries the logs get much lighter. An invasive species called the emerald ash borer the is killing our Ash trees. So, we can't move firewood from one area to another for fear of spreading this bug.
@brainsgowalking where i come from (venezuela) there is a lot of bamboo, now its illegal to cut it, but when i was a scout it wasnt, and you could get really long bambo, we had to carry each of them with at least 3 people. the funny thing, was that since they where still green, they were very very flexible, so you could see the constructions stretch and move like crazy.
@vuurwerkteamdamwoude I would love to see your big towers... When I am in Amsterdam I find your bridges very beautiful. (I went to your site, but didn't see any towers...). Perhaps a big wind mill?
for my pioneer project we did an add on to this huge wooden playground at a scout camp. we built a long rope bridge. not a monkey bridge or single lock bridge. but rope with logs interwoven very tightly so you can walk across it.
Where do you get huge bamboo poles? Here in the Midwest, I get Maple that has grown under old growth forest. The maple tries to get to the light and so is very straight and that makes for a nice pole. Thanks so much for your comments!
great work, i made a pioneering project when i was a scout for my eagle, it was a simple observation tower of over 30 feet tall, it was simply a XXlarge tripod made out of huge bamboo poles and its was awesome, we were able to get over half of the troop to be in the tower. seriously congratulations
@jorgekleiss Where did you get 30' long bamboo? That would be some awesome construction material. We build a model of all our projects (you can see one in this video if you look sharply... Anyhow... 30' bamboo poles would ROCK...

scoutello, what a sad thing for a National Chief Commissioner to say. Pioneering has been part of soucting since its birth, whether to make comfortable or for fun. Yes, fun!! Scouting is meant to be fun too. I feel sorry if you are guiding scouting in the wrong direction.
@Pablo223523 go for it!!! Just one warning, have an army to help you lift it, and be careful of all the kinetic energy stored in a bowing 35' long log. We stopped a couple of times to brace a bowing log back in... As for climbing without a harness, I wouldn't do it. I see some special forces guys wrapping a rope through their bodies, but the rope burn could be bad...
I am a National cheif comissioner, and I dont see purpose of this... I mean - the great job, but pioneering is the way of making life in nature better, easyer...
I dont see how this project can help my troop to live better 15 days in wilderness???
Just for fun???
I repeat - the job they did is great, I know they ejoyed it (beacuse here we cherrish pioneering the most), and congratulations for just the job they did!
Was that their own imagination, or just reproduction?
We like to do things big at Troop/Crew 272. You need a lot of special training to safely put this off. The energy in the 35' logs when you start to raise the thing is huge. Imagine a cross bow with 35' arms. For the most part this was a leader only project. Getting the logs on site was tricky, as the trailer was only 20'. Start small and work your way up. This was my answer to all the drawings out there, we actually did it... and rappelled from the tower! Thanks for the comment!

This project as an Adult team building event, we achieved something some thought was impossible, opening everyone's minds to bigger possibilities.
1. Rappelling MB 30' tower, this was 35' and we did rappel it.
2. Place to put Ham Radio antennas so you don't upset the camp ranger by putting them in his trees.
3. Place to hang a bear bag (its flat in the plains states).
4. Practice our ascending skills (we are cavers, and need to get back up the rope).
A classic Hour Glass tower w/side supports

@scoutello Don't you think you are being rather harsh? As a life scout i think that u r being way too critical.
