  • Regarding Jitney's monopoly: the MTA, which operates the LIRR, has a de facto monopoly on transportation services, in accordance with state laws. The Jitney was only able to get its charter because the MTA was to0 disorganized to protest the original application. Nowadays it would be almost impossible for another company to be permitted to provide a similar service in the region. Consider yourself lucky to have the alternative.  Take it or leave it

The Jitney was only able to get its charter because the MTA was to disorganized to protest the original charter application. Nowadays, it would be almost impossible for another company to offer similar bus service on Long Island. Consider yourself lucky to have the Hampton Jitney available as an option. Take it or leave it-can't make alternative

  • The lower fare is only for the North Fork, and they still wont let you travel within Long Island.
