Well, WCW obviously knew this was the last ppv for them... and it was not even their fault. WCW would still be around today if it was not for AOL merging with Ted Turner. Once this happened, Ted Turner no longer made the decisions and AOL did "believe" in having wrestling on TNT or TBS, so they cut WCW's funds and canceled WCW, forced them to be sold to WWF for some cheap ass price. AOL also canceled Animaniacs cartoon, which I also liked.
This PPV was held at the Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum, where WCW has had a history of doing many wrestling shows at. They did their Wrestlewars 1992 PPV in this arena also, and drew around 6000 for attendance. Most of WCW's events in this venue drew around 6000. The last WCW PPV, Greed, still drew a solid 5000 crowd, with a PPV buyrate around 40,000, which ain't good but it still ain't bad. This was mostly AOL's fault once they merged with Warner, screwed WCW.
i wish it was still around... i know things were bad in 2001, but i wished someone picked it up... TimeWarner/AOL not wanting it was WCW's demise in the end
@AdrianHoliday it would have still survived if not for jamie kellner,.. he is the one who truly killed WCW.. he did not care that wrestling had their high and lows periods and since wcw was in a low,.. he just cancelled it..
wcw finally started to push young talent but by the time that happened it was too late and i think only that wcw died when it did was that the wwf attitude was peaking at the time maybe wcw might have survived longer if the attitude era wasnt there.
I agree, in 2001 WCW's product was top notch, pushing alot of good young wrestlers and having entertaining shows. It was just too bad that Hogan and company's damage was already done.
Well I loved the Magnificent Seven story line, I liked how WCW got some new concepts in 2001 as well, WCW dieing really makes me hate Hogan & Russo. WCW was pushing the right talent and I liked how Rick was getting a singles push as well same with Buff & Lugar.
funny i hate hogan in tna with bishoff i liked jeff jarrett and russoo running tna better. but man russo was a fuck shit in wcw. like eric bishoff is in tna lol
Thanks for posting this! I was a big WCW fan but didn't get to see the last PPV. I miss WCW but if it wasn't for WCW going under there probably wouldn't be TNA. And I love TNA!! :)
Yeah, sometime in 2000, whoever was in charge at some point cut the budge for production values. A LOT. But it was necessary, maybe if they'd done i gradually it wouldn't be so noticeable. Really, the decline of WCW from #1 took something took like 2 years. Seems like longer.
And you have no clue what you are talking about. I guess you where still watching Teletubbies when WCW was in his prime (1996 - 1999). WCW was far better at that time and had an large and very talented pool of wrestlers thanks to the "Turner Millions".
Simple....because WCW couldn't go TV 14and push it like the WWF. You realize McMahon copied everything from Bischoff, right? DX was a ripoff of the nWo and McMahon vs. Austin started after Bischoff inserted himself into the show.
Wrestling would be better today if WCW had won. WCW was a TV PG show that appealed to all fans. WWE is just trash and boring on top of it.
now really he ain't do wcw as bad as ecw hell he brought eca back as a brand n look at wat he has done with dat just be lucky he doesn't plan on making a 4th brand
Damn right. Anytime I see those few little clips of WCW-branded matches on Raw or Smackdown I just get mad that he f-ed WCW over so bad and what could have been.
@affinite1 I used to love WCW more than any of you people...Now i'm glad it's deadbased on so many good reasons. But now I hate American Wrestling ever since the PG era began in WWE. And TNA sucks (Post WCW bullshit). Japanese wrestling and lucha libre is the way to go.
@affinite1 He didn't bury it. He bought it and for once for the fans tried to keep it running but no tv companies wanted to show it. WCW ment losing money at that point.
@ajmurtagh27 I think by "Bury" affinite means the booking of the invasion angle. If not, then that type of burying is more true than simply winning the Monday Night War.
