I think the "Shark in the Water" is her cheating boyfriend. I mean some believe he might be a guy she likes from a distance but I think he's her boyfriend. Especially when he looks at the picture, he looks very guilty; like he got caught. And when she throws her necklace on the pavement ( necklace possibly from him?). He's a shark trying to get her (metaphorically) but unfortunately for him, she knows what he is. Although its up to interpretation like everyone says. lol

I think this song means that she is secretly loving this guy friend and he is with someone else that is doing him dirty and she will do whatever it takes to get him to notice her.. by saying crazy things or getting his attention. I love how it opens room for your own interpretation.... that's probably the point of any song though.. it doesn't HAVE to be about any one thing.... make it mean whatever you want it too. But I think this song is freaking fantastic... LOVE IT.
