whenever I focus manually it makes HORRIBLE noises that you can hear in the video. what lense should I get? I currently use the one that came with the camera.

do you have to use a special type of memory card for videos? because whenever i shoot a video and upload it to the computer, the quality drastically decreases, and it doesn't even look like it was shot from a 500D :(. it's disappointing and kind of frustrating.

@acousticsoul21 the sd-card is not the problem. I think the codec matters and makes your videos look worse.

I started shooting HD video about a year ago and can tell you that the clips you shoot of your family and friends in HD are going to be among your greatest treasures. Thanks for posting the video. @BarbieBreezyy change the white bal on the camera to what ever type of light u are in, if u don't it will always come out too yellow or blue,

What's the difference between a conon 5d and a 500d?

@rubynadine1 There are a lot of differences between the two, but one of the main ones is with the video. The 500d only records at 24fps at 1080p and 30fps at 720p while the 5d records in atleast 60fps.

We just bought one of these cameras and it is awesome. But when we import HD video into iMovie HD, there are black borders around the clip and we can't get rid of them. any ideas???

@tylerjaypedro get this camera, i have this and it's awesome. yes you can hear the motor sound when manual focusing both when taking a picture and recording a video, but it doesnt block out any sound so thats great. you can change the shutter speed, you can basically have manual control over every aspect of the camera. picture quality is pin sharp and whats better, the quality doesnt degrade when you enlarge it on your pc! i got this for £540 with a 18-55mm lens from comet, worth every penny.

I have a cannon 500d too and whenever i take a video in the movie mode and use the autofocus (*) button when the lens focuses the audio is interrupted by that annoying lens focusing noise but i didnt hear that in your video. is there a way to eliminate that annoying sound or did you just edit the video ?

you take both clips from the memory card of the camera, and join them together in the computer to make a full clip. its easy.

bigbone38 the canon 500d does have autofocusing while in movie mode you just have to get it in live view and make sure your lens is in AF mode then you just press the magnification button on the right of the back of the cam and it does focus quick :)

a dslr hasnt an autofocus as a videocamera has.. the autofocus stutters and is made for photography.

so it is completely useless for filming.

Actually it was 720p, because 1080 is only 20fps.

Do you mean 24? If so, that's still weird because cameras (well, the ones I've had) typically let you use any frame rate (that they can use) at any resolution (that they can use).

Either way, still looks awesome. I was saying it looked 1080p because the DOF and general image quality looks higher than 720p.

@TheFXGuy the t1i is not a filmcamera. its a digital slr.

It has two different movie modes. 720 at 30fps and 1080 at 20 fps.

I cant work with 20fps so I'm using 720p.

The DOF depends on the lens and the lens opening.

Just google for Rebel T1i. It's a great tiny dslr.

Yeah bec this cam is all crap in the video dept. I should rather say wantonly handicapped by the ever so crookish canon company. They purposely made it 20 fps so that they could at the fag end release the 550d which does 1080p @ 30/24/25 fps So everyone can buy again. Shady cunning marketing as usual.

the camera does have a auto focus but it is used for photos. you can not compare it with a filmcamera.

I didn't make the video but have a t1i myself.

He's manually focusing. Although it can focus during the video, it has to be invoked manually, but it's slow, contrast based, and hunts for focus missing focus more often then not. Though before shooting you can quick focus where it will actually flip the mirror to allow for good af

Can I ask do you know or remember what the ISO settings were for the candles? I have the same camera after reading the reviews about the video capture makes it sound incredibly poor but seems find in my eyes other than 20fps for 1080p is poor. thats like a slap in the face from canon in my opinion. not that video capture was a selling point for me but still...

no worries, I read in forums that unlike the 5D its not possible to change the aperture for video which helps in low light. Well it is possible if you disconnect the lens partially.

the movies are .mov files and very easy to use.

But I converted them to f4v to make the size smaller ;)
