  • The fact is, as @amd7787 might say, only jesus is without sin and therefore church may be sinful. Yet, you fail to realize that church has an entire platform to discourage sin so that one may be accepted into heaven. It is extremely hypocritical to market sinlessness and in turn commit massive amounts of hate towards gays, muslims, minorities.

    im curious how anyone 'knows' jesus is the son of god? care to share...many ppl 'know' hes not..in fact more ppl 'know' hes not than 'know' he is...i dont know for sure and i have a college education, a high GPA and common sense. Please tell me how you came to this conclusion and i havent. If you were born into the religion you follow, please disregard. Thank You

The disciples saw jesus perform one miracle after another, raising the dead, curing the lepers, giving sight to the blind, water to wine, and wilting a fig tree. He told them he would return from the dead, he did. Peter denied him, Judas sold him out, and the rest, well they ALL doubted him in the "upper room". Really? They didn't believe, and they knew him. Why would anyone believe now? Fear?

  • The only problem I have with this debate is how unbalanced it was - pitting Hitchens and Fry against those two numbskulls is like pitting Superman against a poodle wearing a Batman costume.

    To make a debate interesting, they needed to find two Catholics who are actually on the same intellectual level as Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry.

    Oh, wait a second. Yeah, I'm seeing the problem now.

  • Unlike Stephen Fry this man is a demagogue or slightly misguided in his believes IMHO. I hear the underlying hatred. He is using the "big" words to prove his point not to embrace the problems. There is not love and forgiveness in in him, just facts and intellectual correctness which leads striat to personal hell and does not offer much but division.

    don't be so judgmental, you can say you don't like his argument but what leads you to assume he must be living in a 'personal hell'? Hitchens has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, he has no regrets and is still a staunch atheist. He's loved by atheists and free thinkers across the world, his life has been defined by the combat of totalitarian states and regimes. Don't judge hm as a man because you disagree with his rhetorical style.

    Sorry to hear about his condition. My comment was about people in general who use the intellectual power without deep compassion to promote their agendas or political views, the cause does not really matter. I have grown up in totalitarian regime and to me he sounds exactly like them. The "hell" begins with a "staunch" approach and exclusion. History is a proof. I do not judge him as a man, I do not know him, I did not like what I heard. Wish him well.

He is spending his life (his days are numbered now) to spread the truth to the world, that religion is evil. Which it most certainly is. If you don't like hearing that.... you are precisely the problem he is speaking of. Pull your head out of your ass. Hitchens is a world treasure.

  • @gkopij How dare you worry about compassion when religion, and especially the Catholic church, doesn't exhibit that quality? Was it compassionate to kill millions of indigenious people across the globe? Was it compassionate to institute the Inquistion? Was it compassionate to take the monies Mother Thresea collected and leave thousands of ill people lying on concrete floors in squalor? Was it compassionate to imprison women and girls in Magdalene Homes or to abuse and rape orphans?

  • This man is absolutely mesmerizing, speaking with more force and what I can only call supernatural power than any man I have ever heard in person. If ever I wanted someone to be saved with more than all my heart - it would be this man. Maybe he is God's weapon against Islam, has no choice, like Pharaoh, and will be saved viz. Acts 17, Rom 9. At least he HAS THE COURAGE, stamina and GUTS to decry EVIL AS EVIL in Islam. Thank you Christopher Hitchens - in this way YOU ARE MY GREATEST HERO.

  • I think that used to be the way church members dodged their immorality, now I think it's more removing themselves from being of the church, while being the church - It is a simple contradiction. If you are the church, you must take responsibility of the church, or else there is no church.
