酸桃 (sumomo) I believe is a word that refers to a specific type of plum that grows in Japan. Puramu refers to the western plum.

Yes, you are correct! That is where they got the name of Tamagochi from.

tomodachi=friend. tamago=egg. so its a play on those two words, meaning, of course, 'egg friend':)
