Actually I remember this one. It is one of my later memories of SS and yes, I saw the original version too. Except for the prince's antics nd Rapunzel's Noo Juyzey accent, this one is conceptually rather different from the original Sesame Street News clip. It's nice that Rapunzel doesn't end up bald in this one.
omg!!! i was reminiscing about this part not long ago. was trying really hard to remember the name of this show since i watch it when i was really really young.i cant believe i can still find it here! AWESOME! thanks for uploading it. =)
I think the muppet did double duty. I remember him as Prince Charming in a few of the news flash/fairy tale sketches. He dressed like a prince in those sketches and used the voice we hear in this sketch (which is very different from Guy Smiley's voice). My favorite was the Cinderella episode where the prince drops the glass slipper, smashing it, and says, "Oh well, easy come, easy go."
While I didn't remember the ending, I must say it's kind of predictable now. Rapunzel running off with the lackey, I mean. But speaking of that, has anyone got the cartoon with a similar result? It involved a prince reciting the "Roses are red and violets are blue" poem to a princess in a castle, while his lackey writes it out for him. Then the princess falls in love with the writer.
That's pretty rare on Sesame Street. Then again, at the time this was done, it was pretty rare for a male to do a female voice as well. That was mostly in the seventies.
I figured it had something to do with the "violent" content; I remember sawing uploading an Ernie and Bert clip with the same "You don't remember this" description, which ended with Bert running into the other room, where screaming and things breaking were clearly audible.
It can't hurt we've tried everything else. LOL!!!

You never know, Rapunzel. There's an old saying: the Lord helps those who help themselves.

ill guarantee this was originally suppose to be a SS news flash sketch

Actually, there was a Sesame Street Newsflash about Rapunzel. But instead of having to rhyme, Rapunzel was hard of hearing and lost her wig.

I know it was pretty much to be consistent with he first Rapunzel sketch, but I don't know why Lousie could've been Rapunzel and Jerry the lackey.

Every time I saw this as a kid, I just wondered why Guy Smiley was pretending to be a prince.

I do recall seeing this in Spanish on Plaza Sesamo.

Wow, is that Jerry Nelson reprising the role of Rapunzel? Cool!
wilek209 2 years ago
I love that the lackey is clearly being voiced by a woman while Rapunzel is clearly being voiced by a guy-most likely Jerry Nelson.
(Bob) Lackey is a really nice guy. I love the Prince's little temper tantrum at the end "I want my horsey!" XD

I think it's because it barely aired. I remember only seeing it once.
