If you want to see and hear the original rock guitarist that played the distortion licks on this song 1956.(covered by this group and others).Search-Paul Burlison..Go down to-Rock and Roll Trio-Part Three..second song..then go to the original cut in 1956..Johnny Burnette..Train Kept Rollin
@mrjonrickly You mean "Esquire." That name was changed (around 1951 or so) to "Broadcaster" due to a marketing conflict with Gretsch guitars. Been playing for over forty years, I know what I'm talking about. Yeah, I'm old. I was there "back in the day."
@Barnekkid you are right about the name "esquier"...but "broadcaster" was the name first , then changed to "telecaster" around '51' because gretch had a drum set of the same name..
but the "esquire" was the single pickup version of the tele..which jeff beck played in "the yardbirds"..as does the lead player in "the RaveUps". these guys know how to do it right.
@mutleyrj bullshit. these guys rock !!!!!!!!!!!! they have the yardbirds version down, but make it their own. the guitarist has that angry beck tone. eat your heart out joe perry
The girls were great dancers,but were too distracting to watch these guys knock that one out of the park. Killer tone from that guitarist-very nice guys.
The version that the Yardbirds and Aerosmith both cover is the Johnny Burnette Trio version from 1956. They were one of the first Rockabilly bands, and possibly the best Rockabilly band ever. Legendary session guitarist was the first to use distorted guitar-and their version smokes both Aerosmith and the Yardbirds in my opinion. Look it up on YouTube.
He did it first yes, but not as a Rock and Roll song. The Yardbirds, Aerosmith are clearly doing the Johnny Burnette Rockabilly version was the point I was trying to make. Just shows how American Rockabilly influenced the kids over in England. ( but we all know it was Rockabilly that brought The Beatles together anyway)
I can understand why you'd think that, but the guy who wrote it was a guy named Tiny Bradshaw. He recorded it in 1951. Johnny Burnette covered it in 1956.
History repeats itself, same song, same verse. RaveUps singer starts too early into the verse "We made a stop, at Albuquerque ...'' (albeit at a different place in the song) just like Keith Relf did at the Yardbirds' Anderson Theatre show in 1968.
Felicitaciones muchachos!!, muy buen cover de los Yardbirds, el bajo muy sólido y preciso, logra que los demás ensamblen perfectamente... De las chicas, ni que decir... Hummmm. preciosas, como extraidas de los 60´s. Gracias... Freddy desde Perú
I saw the Yardbird piss off the Beachboys because they were too good. Made the BB's, who were tye headliners, look like amateurs in 1965. Raveups capture that energy and talent.
I've been listening to the Yardbirds since the beginning and they are still among the best rock groups ever!! The RaveUPs are simply the best since the originals...they nailed this tune and every other one I've watched!! Super job guys, keep it up!! Please come to Tennessee!

The lead player gets excellent tone from that broadcaster. I'd like to know what his fx chain is.
Barnekkid 1 year ago
@Barnekkid
i think the lead player is using a "squire"....a single pickup telecaster.like beck used back in the day..
killer tone!
