Yep. It was me, not the instrument. My bad...Not my best example of playing. Guess when I spend more time building, my chops go ...on the other hand, I hear a lot of pro violinists off. Guess I am not like my hero Yehudi Menuhin or Stepanni Grapelli....I do have better days! ;-)
so wait, can you control intonation even though it has frets? can you still do slides like on a violin or cello? and i know what you mean. we all have better days.
Yes and no. When a string is pressed down, the fret engages. When it is not pressed down all the way, it is like playing slide with fingertips. You can effectively be fret-less at will and do sliding glissandos....all in one phrase, one can do a guitar vibrato/bend, sliding violin glissando and even classical guitar portamento vibrato. It is up to the player.
i just want to tell you that you have made my dream come true
you don´t know what your idea means to me it is really what i dreamed all my life, having a guitar with a violin is simply opens alll the doors that where clsed before
amazing idea and great work developing this beautyfull instrument... maybe next year i will have the money to get one
What are you trying to bow? a guitar? Assuming the bow is rosined, you will still have some trouble getting much sound from a typical guitar; acoustic or electric. Part of that is design physics. The other problem (for electrics)is that Mag Pickups are in the wrong plane to intercept the planar motion of a bowed string. It sounds very weak and you may get Jimmy Page noise; not a serious bowed sound. That is why I designed the BOWD horizon pickup system on my instruments exclusively. Cheers, JW
hey, what strings do you use for this?

@micp4130 For many years, I used D'Addario Chromes. For the last two, a mixed set of Helicore Cello strings.

the intonation seems to be out. when you went to the higher frets the notes are flat.

Is there some special technique to using a bow, mine does not produce sound at all.
Djeezes 3 years ago
try applying rosin to the bow if it's never been rosin. crosshatch the rosin with a knife. oh and don't be too heavy handed
