  • There is something so darling and perfect about him. I just saw "Psycho" for the first time and against my better judgment, fell in love. Tony was remarkably talented, I don't think anyone could have played Norman Bates as well as he did. Thank you for uploading these, they are so fun to watch! I wish movie stars today were more like those of the '60s...

  • he has the boyish/mannish charm of tom ford, designer of fashion. but that's just my perception. r there any men like that now??? jon hamm?? ehh?

  • Perkins was beautiful !! mmmmmmmmmmm...

  • he is very cute

  • Tony Perkins had two hit records in 1957...'Moonlight Swim' [later pilfered by Elvis] and 'I've Got Date with the Prettiest Girl in School'. He could sing very well indeed.

  • CUTE CUTE CUTE!!! And his neck as he laughs at 3:11 after "Desire Under the Elms" is mentioned, SO sexy...

  • I love him.

  • Now who, I wonder, could have best played "Norma Bates?" Perhaps k.d. lang, who certainly has no aversions to masculine appearance.

  • Possible Spoiler Alert! Don't read on if you haven't seen either version of "Psycho."

I thought Gus Van Sandt's filming of "Psycho" unnecessary, albeit that it was shot in color, which actually detracted from the overall atmosphere better served by the black & white of the Hitchcock original.

Had Van Sandt wanted to lend an innovation to the narrative, he could have had the protagonist be a male, the villain "Norma Bates," plagued by an Electra complex and dressing as her father.

  • He's such a darling man.

  • GSN rebroadcast this 1957 episode in early December 2008. The producer were geniuses for selecting entertaining line ups. Besides Perkins as mystery guest, Jolie Gabor came as a jewelry store owner, and so did the recreation director of San Quentin Prison and a saleswoman of dog insurance.

  • @inkey2 yes... a hot sicko... but no, the darting eyes means that he's probably nervous since it's his first happearance. he is very talented in his work. such a legend that will make it through history. he is also handsome and charming, full of charisma. :)

  • Look up What's my Line Jane Wyman on YouTube and you will find a 1960 episode with young Tony Perkins on the panel.

  • I just love his bashful sweet smile. <3<3<3

  • no i didint mean to say pop what was i thinking? haha i dont think when im watching tony he's so sexy and adorible if you guys ever watched desire under the elms you would feel sooooooooo soooooooo good afterwards after you cryed ur heart out! yes its a really romantic movie you can find to buy more of his movies on amozon, ebay, shopzeala, ioffer to

  • pop

  • Well, correction---I didn't see this one. Never. But he is sooooo beautiful and charming!!

  • Thanx for posting. Perkins looks gorgeous in this clip. That Look Homeward Angel production must have been something to behold.

Dorothy Kilgallen rules. She knew a lot about modern music and probably picked up Perkins' vibes early.

Speaking of Kilgallen, Perkins appeared in a fascinating WML 1961 episode in which the panel was Martin Gabel, Debbie Reynolds, Perkins, and Arlene Francis -- and Dorothy Kilgallen (recovering from a hospitalization) appeared as the mystery guest.

  • Tony is such a beautiful, sweet boy.I instanty fell in love with him when I saw him in Psycho. These WML episodes make me wanna scream...he is such a darling.

I do have both episodes you mentioned in your nice comments ( thanks by the way).I will upload them as soon as I have the time.I really would die to ever see Look Homeward Angel.Tony is....oh dear...I do not have a word that expresses what he is for me : )

Thanks for your interest in the clips.

    Best wishes from Germany,

    Mony

  • Really? I'd love to see these episodes too (: Anyways.. thanks for the clips you've already posted - I enjoyed them!

  • And, in "Fear Strikes Out," Perkins does a fairly credible job (although he throws the ball like a girl) playing Boston Red Sox fielder Jimmy Piersall, who was afflicted with mental illness early in his baseball career.

As that film preceded "Psycho," I have always speculated Perkins' role as Piersall may have served as his audition for "Norman Bates," a fictional character beset by mental illness.

  • @soulierinvestments Where did you ever find this? How did you know about this "What My Line?" Episode? I am very interested.. I love Anthony Perkins & I would die to know if you'd be so kind :)

If you know anything else about Tony Perkins, then please message or reply back to this. Thanks! Hope to hear one soon. You seem very smart.
