It is not in his Wiki, but I'm pretty sure I read a long time ago that it was Kris Kristofferson. I wish I could remember the name of the magazine, it is a long out of print one that advertised new movies coming out on VHS. There was a detailed article about Dune, about each version of Dune , and the difference in Pan and scan technique vs Letterbox (Does anyone remember?) I actually think the old VHS copy of the TV show had Kristofferson in the credits...
@Jtronique I think the article you are referring to is "Building the Perfect Dune" by Sean Murphy that appeared in Video Watchdog #34 & #34. It is available online (search for "Building the Perfect Dune" - I can't post the link in the comments for some reasons)
@HighPriestofLemuria Technically, the Mentats aren't a school in the same way the Bene Gesserit and the Guild are, but rather the products of the Bene Tleilaxu like gholas or face dancers. But if you wanted to extend the definition you could say the same about the Suk school of anti-assasination conditioned doctors, and the Ginaz school of swordmasters...
Who did these paintings and who actually did the voiceover? I can't tell you how many people I've had to tell that it isn't Frank Herbert narrating. >.>
I saw 2 different kinds of dogs on there. The one the Duke is holding looks to be a pug derivative. The dogs living thousands of years from now will look nothing like today's, just as those living thousands of years ago look nothing like today's.

Warhammer 40,000 certainly comes to mind with this film, as do other things.
@JackRussellTerrier2 Funny you mention it, I just saw Moebius' storyboards (what survives) last night on dune info dot com, and the predominance of Ginger which predates Lynch's collective vision appears to be the case. These search words in Google will bring up the page. "Jodorowsky on Jean "Moebius" Giraud"
DUNE - IRAQ ALLEGORY: Vladimir Harkkonen - Dick Cheney, Emperor - Bush, Choam - Banks/multi-national companies, Sardaukar - NATO, Melange - oil, Fremen - Arabs, Paul Maudib - identity unknown, fight among Fremen, will reveal in short time, Atreides- Europeans, Benne Geserit - Vatican, Guild - WTO vaanjaa 2 years ago 3
He meant that the lines he wrote in the book were used without changes in the script, not that you could hear his voice. Have you ever heard Frank Herbert speak? It's clearly NOT him.
In the introduction for his 1985 short story collection Eye, Frank Herbert discussed the film's reception and his participation in the production, complimented Lynch, and listed scenes that were shot but left out of the released version. He wrote, "I enjoyed the film even as a cut and I told it as I saw it: What reached the screen is a visual feast that begins as Dune begins AND YOU HEAR MY DIALOGUE ALL THROUGH IT...".

The intro isn't correct. The Mentat are another school that survives to the movies present era.

@CountessEntwistle The narrator is uncredited, but I've seen people claim it is actor Robert Loggia!

The narrator sounds like Bruce Boxleitner.
scarletboi 7 months ago
@scarletboi No he doesn't. It is Frank Herbert.... the writer of the original book.
