  • The only comment I have is to prevent the rice from getting buggy in a few months, freeze it for a couple of days. It does no harm to the rice but kills any bugs hiding in the bag. You could also fill the holding container with nitrogen. That will displace the oxygen and kill off the bugs.

  • saw this dude on doomsday preppers, he knows what hes talking about. although, fuk man, he needs to get healthy

  • this video makes my chicken's head twitch constantly, like something is stuck in his mouth or nose or. I thought something was wrong with him until finally I paused the video, and he stopped twitching within 5 or 10 seconds. I hit play again and he instantly started shaking his head again. I repeated the process about 10 times to make sure it wasnt a coincidence. The guy's voice in this video massively affects my chicken's hearing or something.

  • @KustomFu How funny! Maybe he is the "Chicken Whisperer",

  • Actually, you don't have to take that 1/4 quart out of your water amount for the day. You're still ingesting h2o, whether it's in its pure water form or in a food. It doesn't matter. That gallon of water recommended can be consumed in any way. Studies show that about 2/5 of that gallon is in the food you eat regularly. So don't go chug a gallon of water.

  • Hello, Friend, as Just One Brother from another Mother ( Earthly mother I josh with you) I think your Spot ON with your food & Prep videos. I just found your channel today, & also found your Video, that is saying goodby to youtube. Brother I sure hope you don't leave your Prep Channel, & I am so sorry for what these Doctors under the new Obama Law, can do to any of us, & apparently is trying to do to you. You have my Love & Prayers in our Heavenly Father's NAME. Stay with us, Be Blessed, Shalom

  • Rice, dried beans, all kinds of pasta noodles, these make good extenders for your food storage meals. I stock up on them just in case of SHTF. I want to get a dehydrator & start drying fruits & veggies, too. I could kick myself for throwing away my ex's food dehydrator thinking it was worthless. I never grew up around anyone dehydrating so I did not know how useful it was.

  • Sir you have my respect and dont even bother to respond to those other guys

  • Excellent point about rice being an 'extender' to other foods. I would hate to put all my eggs in one basket and live off nothing but rice for a day, much less several weeks. Anyway, great ideas. Your channel is full of great information, and you have my respect for being a prepper that shows respect.

  • The reason it doesn't fill you up is that it turns into sugar shortly after it hits your stomach.

  • This guy looks like he needs more "extender food" doesn't he?

  • @MrMZaccone

Be civil, he's not judging you. We all have weaknesses. Besides, who better to receive food advice from than someone who knows his food! :P

  • @diggingforgold Just trying to be funny. I suppose doing so at someone else's expense was rather ill-concieved.

  • I hate chili mac

  • One cup of uncooked rice per person, per day. If you're gonna store rice, you need to learn to cook some asian meals. And eat some vegetables.

  • You make too much sense my friend. Cool dogs!

  • Rice tip I wish I knew sooner:: We use brown rice. I stocked up on so much and found out the bad news....since brown rice contains oils and all its nutrients, brown rice cannot be stored for more than 6-8 months. Therefore, we're eating brown rice daily and have re-stored a great quantity of white rice. *oh, poot* And David, another great vid :)

  • no i am not i had a R N Y done

  • i would be full on just what is on the plate

  • @ThunderLardner you so full of it.... that would not be possable unless you were a 2 mo old baby

  • @ThunderLardner

If by full you mean "sick of eating only plain rice", then yes. One thing this video has inspired me to stock up on is spices. Salt, I think, is probably one simple essential item a lot of people forget about.

  • Yeah, I hear ya, Thank You

  • Don't listen to the riff raff, Country Boys/Gals can and damn sure will survive! Keep it up, we appreciate it! And you know your shiznit, don't let anyone tell you that you don't. @ everyone saying "meat is toxic"... Then why did my ancestors eat buffalo? And yours eat their animals that lived in your native countries?! WE'RE ALL ALIVE, RIGHT?

  • meat from the store its toxic not the one from your home, i mean you farm...If you grow up you animals whit good food its not toxic, but if buy a piece of meat from a store which i don'y know how many E1,E2, E3..E(n) put in tha piece, its very toxic.

  • also you can try left over logistics where you eat your left overs first so they wont go bad

  • have you thought about whole grain rice? White rice is made with paraffin, and talc used to make it white and WITHOUT ANY Nutrients that whole grain rice will give you. That is why you are not getting filled up by eating white rice, its because all the nutrients have been removed by the paraffin and other polishing techniques but it does have a longer shelf life because all the essential oils have been removed in the manufacturing process of white rice from brown rice. Thanx for all ur videos

  • @sonicalchemy yes but the storage life is not as long

  • @sonicalchemy Actually, studies have shown that basmati rice is far more digestible & nutrient ready than brown rice. Brown rice has a very hard time breaking down in the system.

  • @sonicalchemy I do like brown rice a WHOLE lot better but did see an article recently that arsenic concentrates in the brown husk just naturally! Wanted to give you a heads up about it for more research, might be another mis information.

  • good idea storing 400 lbs of food in your body. that way no one can take it.

  • @quicklady I like David, but I had to laugh at this...

  • So many people are having problems with gluten that stocking up on rice is wise for many reasons. If American's would think of rice like they do potatoes, the transition is much easier. Besides the baked kind, lol, everything else is doable with rice as a substitute.

  • Thank you sir. Great, common sense video. If you also have ramen noodles, those flavor packs go really well with the rice to make it tasty. Add a sprinkle of butter flavored sprinkles (a la molly mcbutter) and you are in business.

  • your first video i really liked Thumbs up

  • I buy cases of Rice for my emergency food storage. Love them.

  • nice video dude! :) very informative! thx for sharing the info.

  • @BhaktaRobin your not correct in so many ways .. your the one that needs to do the resurch

  • @dsarti1 Well even the bible says: "Do not kill" This also includes animals. For one 1kg of meat you need to feed aprox 17 kg grain(as I heard). The grains would feed 20 people instead of 1 meat eater. So if people would stop meat eating nobody would have to starve. God made enough food for all humans, but they misuse his creation. You will also go to hell for meat eating. So meat eating is destructive both materially and spiritually. You will see what I warned you about when the Yamadutas get u.

  • @BhaktaRobin you are an uneducated dumbass who worships a statue i dont think anyone would wanto listen to a person who is such a big idiot to think god is a statue and looks like an elephant you fool

  • @dsarti1 When he is starving, his "vedic" cow will start looking more and more tasty. Being a vegetarian is a luxury of modern society. One bad frost or hailstorm, all vegetarian societies would have starved long ago.

  • @BhaktaRobin shutup you uneducated dumbass humans are OMNIVORES we are supposed to eat both meat and vegitables if you have a religious belief that you should not eat meat then fuck off and dont be talking shit telling people about how YOUR god does this and that if you were educated and knew anything then you would not be talking shit.

  • @BhaktaRobin You're correct in all ways except the "god" part... There is NO invisible sky daddy... I promise.. :)

  • @BhaktaRobin

Meat is not toxic to the human body...

We are mammals just like lions etc... They are fine lol

  • @BhaktaRobin Your brain is obviously in a vegatative state

  • @BhaktaRobin That's complete nonsense.

  • just eat rice with ketchup

  • I DONT EAT RICE...BUT I DID GET SOME TO MIX WITH MEAT TO MAKE THE HIGHER PRICED MEAT GO FARTHER. ...AS FOR JUST EATING GRAINS....ID MUCH RATHER EAT STEEL CUT OATS WITH HONEY. THAT IS VERY GOOD.

  • not going to lie, this guy is a modern genius. he thinks every move through, he prepares himself for anything that might come, alot to learn from this guy. i say stop insulting him, and just challenge his ideas for possible mistakes, cause noones perfect, but this guy really has the right idea. props to you buddy

  • i dont see how people can click the dislike button when this guy is just tryin to help keep people from starving through an emergacy situation, dosnt make any since what so ever to me...wake up people, store some food, and get ready. theres no time like the present time...oh, and thanks for vidio dsarti1

  • what the heck did this have to do with food storage. Some folks I think love to hear the m selves talk too much.

  • How very petty that someone would talk about your flooring. Sheesh! You have been very informative to many many people on being prepared! God Bless!

  • Haha 7:00 he's the holy rice man!

Love your videos man keep them coming!

  • I'm making a one year food store. Rice will be my main staple along with oats, tuna, beans, ect, ect.

My question is, if I were to eat one bowl of rice every day for a year (365) how mych rice should I have? (in pounds or Kilos, not cups. I need to know by weight). Anyone know?

  • @Ljungman42 250grams x 365 =91.25 kilos.

  • @MrHitthebong1 I have 288kg for 2 people. I shold be good then. Thanks

  • HEY GOOGLE AND TOYOTA! STOP WITH THE STUPID FREAKING PLURAL OF PRIUS COMMERCIALS! WE DON'T CARE!!!!!!

  • @akopike how long does it take to cook quinoa? longer than white rice? there might as well be fuel shortage at the same time as a food shortage.

  • Yeaaaa!!!!! love me some beans n rice, seen ya holdin can o blackeyed peas id throw that in the rice instead of chili mac any day and twice on sundays :)

  • Do you rotate your long term food storage?

  • i know you made this vidio a long time ago, but I thank you for trying to help those that need to gain knowlage. Im one of those folks. I want to long term store sugar, any tips on that, I will be filling 5 gl buckest with 1bl each of rice, been, roled oats, corn and sugar in meylar bags. what can I do to keep the sugar good as long as the rise, thanks

  • We have to be prepared. When shit will hits the ceiling i dont think people will care what they ae going to eat as long as it is food.

  • I appreciate your videos very much! Thank you! They provide a lot of very good information. And presenting it in a simple way is not easy but you make it look easy. You're a treasure to this country imo. People are fools to not listen and see what you give them so graciously for free. Good luck to you.

  • Another good Video

  • My family eats rice likes it's a delicacy. Thank God I don't have picky eaters to worry about!

  • Good info. Thanks.

  • I read the ingredients on Bisquick once... now I just make my own as needed. It's just flour, salt, oil, powdered milk, and baking powder. The quantities aren't even important if you're just making biscuits.

  • Another great way to use rice is to take a can of chunky beef stew and pour it over a couple cups of cooked rice. Tastes great and lasts forever for when you need it.

  • Comment removed

  • @JSears1321

Uh.... I never said anything about brown rice....

And I know that the shelf life of white rice is considerably longer than brown.

  • @asheradensein

My error. I meant to click the reply button on the subsequent comment.

  • Brown rice is healthier than white rice.

Also when you cook food it loses all nutritional value and your body doesn't recognise it unless your meal contains at least 51% raw ingredients. Fresh greens may be hard to find in disaster times but you can keep any kind of nuts in raw form (unroasted) for a long time. Vitamins are a must, especially Vitamin D (if it's winter). Your body can take punishment but try to get healthy while the times are good.

  • My Grandma used to pour turtle stew over rice. Any kind of stew (Deer is my favorite) over rice is amazing!

  • Unless of course... Your Family is full of a bunch of picky idiots.

  • I am wracking my brain in a journal to think of all the things my great grandma did with rice and other staples to extend food. Even in the mid 90s before she died she lived like it was still the middle of the depression. I've been talking to grandparents about what she did and many other family members trying to get ideas while they are still around!

WRITE IT DOWN! You can't remember everything! I recommend either right in the rain field journals or map seal to help protect your info!

  • Yeesh you sure are worried about starving to death huh?

  • Realy, you need frog bullion to go with your frogs and rice.

  • Rice IS cheap and I like it. Add canned or frozen vegetables with the meat and bullion to have a complete meal.

  • Rice Is extremely important. You can also add extra water, let it cool, give it to babies in place of formula.it saved my daughters life when she was 6 mos.she had been sick the dr's kept giving her meds that didn't work for a week +, she couldn't keep food inside of her, she got dehydrated and weak, a friend sent me to an old chinesse Dr, that told me if I would of waited 1 more day she'd had to be hospitalised or worse , That Dr told me to use rice water,in place of formula. It worked.

  • @thinkladythink For diarrhea, my dad says to remember BRATTY: Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Tea, Toast, Yogurt. I never thought of rice water though. That's a great idea.

  • @stormbird451 ..Rice water saved my daughter.. it is good for you.. I like the bratty idea, but not to sure about apple sauce for diarrhea, but it sounds good to help rebalance your system when stomach is settled..

  • I like your videos!

  • I'm sorry, frog giggin? Dsarti I ain't from TN, you gotta explain what frog giggin is. LOL

  • I agree with you on one major point, that rice is a great meal extender. I can feed my family of 4 (two teenagers) by making 2 cups of rice and adding one can of Campbells Chuncky Beef Stew. the stew has veggies, meat, and other good stuff and the rice is a good filler with some nutritional value. In an emergency situation, people who think they'll be eating like they do today are dreaming. They can do that...but they'll run out of food they could have made last longer.

  • I lol'ed at the halo

  • What about wheat, do you store it? If so, do you know how to actually turn it into something. I know you grind it, but then what?

  • Once again, another GREAT video! How do you store your rice and how do you store your bisquick? My main worry is vermin and bugs gettin into anything I have. Mice love my basement.

  • Great video! Love the dogs too! If others would get their heads out and listen to you on this, the food would last longer.

  • i do floors, i'll do it for cost of materials. love the vids.

  • major agreed here D. Tip, if you are going to add canned veggies to your rice after it's cooked, open and drain your veggies before you cook your rice. Use the liquid from your veggies as part of the water in the rice. It will help flavor them as well as help extend your water storage.

  • I have stored rice bagged in 1995

no oxy absorbers. taste is a little off and yellowed, but edible.

Repacked with Mylar bags and absorbers.

    I also bought fresh stock.

  • Good advice for now and later. Thanks a million.

  • whats chilli mack?

  • Scramble a few fresh yard eggs, vegs from the garden, diced cooked meat and add to the rice for a quick protein rich meal. Also check out this great book - 366 delicious ways to cook rice, beans, and grains. Thanks for the videos!

  • Rofl white rice and sum soy sauce and i'm in heaven ( I love chinese food)

  • rice is great for extending food like you said cause you can cook like 2 cans of beans or chili and mix it with the rice and feed your whole family with 2 cans of beans or chili but the rice will start to run out. thats why you need to have alot of it

  • 0:51 I think I saw kilograms, not pounds. Anyway, I learned a lot from this vid! thanks!

  • @iyBesao It is a pound... the little scale is in grams.

  • that mini pin is handsome. i wish i still had mine. they both got hit by a train on the same night. :(

lots of respectable people get hit by trains

  • Great info, I tell people all the time the same thing. But what about using grits or cornmeal as an extender too? They multiply many times their original size. :)

  • very good video as all ways

  • yes sir! rice and dont forget the pinto beans to be used in the same mannor.

  • Good vid. rice is good larder - How do you store it in buckets? (probably in another vid)

    One note:

Wylers bullion contains MSG brain excitotoxins (a.k.a "Natural Flavors")- as do other "junk" products - MSG (most made in Japan) can cause excitotoxicity, which is something you do NOT want to have during any emergency situation - because you will not be able to think straight. It can also cause sever headachs in a stress situation.

  • but i did like the halo comment.

  • @Meganolia I agree, all the tile came up leaving exposed partical board... Would you like to send me the money to have a new floor put in?

  • i'm sure if you hold off on hand warmers and all that rice... you could go to home depot and get you a fixer up. You have such creative ideas. or maybe throw down a rug... and wipe up the red koolaid stains before you video... :/

  • Bro, go to your local mexican grocery store and get a jar that has dried tomato/chicken bullion in the same jar and add it to the water, you'll get spanish rice.

While your there get jars of Mole Sauce and canned chicken, also get jars of white gravy with sausage and throw that right on top of the rice, me personally I can eat the spanish rice everyday for dinner and the sausage gravy with rice for breakfast!............

  • 5 starts for the halo. That made me laugh.

  • filipino style fried rice is the bomb.

just fry the cooked rice in chopped garlic cloves and maybe onions and pepper and salt to taste. and of course maybe some soy sauce. to make it a meal, eat it with two eggs anystyle you like but for the meal usually over easy and with sausage. the filipino sweet sausage is called longanisa. they usually have the pork kind but i prefer the chicken. or try tocino, either pork or chicken as well. bon ape-tite. i like cheeseburgers and pizza with rice.lol

  • having lived in Africa this is a basic rule of life, but great info and more people need to do it in day to day life too.

  • Talk to folks from Lousianna. Rice is a staple there.

  • excellent video!

  • good vid....ill post mine to yours too

  • thank you sir, i do agree i have been saying the same thing for years now. dry food like rice, and beans should be got in bulk, along with, salt, cooking oil, sugar, flour, cornmeal, and oat meal. that's what I do..

  • yep some beans rice and cornbread can make a single rabbit feed a large family

  • good video.

  • Good video, very informative, I learned a lot. Question, can you use or drink the water that you boiled your rice with or must you dump it out after boiling the rice? Will it be too starchy to drink or reuse?

  • there should be no left over water it is all absorbed into the rice...

  • @GTVAlfaMan Dude, you have never cooked rice in your life? You better do some experimenting.......

  • Good ideas and information. 5*

  • great vid

  • If its cold and the wood stove is going I'd leave a pot on the boil with the better rice. BUT Im not sure the Basmati IS better, and by how much if it is. Im not sure but if I find out Ill post it.

  • I've always heard that Basmati has better nutrition value. Anyone have confirmational data for this, either way??

  • Remember other rices are slightly better nutritionally than white instant rice but............ They take longer and way more energy to prepair

  • last tip; certain rices absorb food tastes better, usually short grained rices are more starchy and pastey;they hold the flavor the best . basmati and jamine rice are long grains with much lower starch, they are flaky when cooked but don't hold added flavor well although they do have their own nutty flavor

  • thank you for that tip on rice..

  • @davideli7879 no problem

  • i would add that cheap rice can be added to HQ dog food to extend that too . i put some beef bullion in the rice, when cooking then add it to Bil-jack in a ratio of 2 part biljack to 1 part rice . i have two happy siberian huskies to prove its tasty

  • I just posted this comment elsewhere and thought you might have some use for it as well...

"Try an Indian (Asian) grocery or restaurant for dry beans. They love beans and lentils and probably can direct you towards a wholesale option."

  • Great video. 5***** I've got a spare room/closed in loft area upstairs. It's a pretty good size room and that's where I store the emergency food, supplies ect. I feel bad for the people that live in cities. I wised up 2 years ago and got myself out of the city and back in the country where I belong.

  • How do you store rice and beans long term?

Also have you ever tried Basmati Rice? (also known as Texmati Rice, domestic) There is also Jasmine Rice. They are both long grain white rice with enormous flavor and a higher nutritional value than your standard rice!! I believe that to be the case, but have not found a source for the info.

Anyway, how do you store your dry foods super long term???

  • @GibbedHGR rice will last a few years in the sealed store package or you can hyper extend that time by using a foodsaver type vacuum sealer system . same for beans . beans and rice really don't go "bad" as in food poisening ,they just loose their nutrition value . but you should be rotating your stock anyway, you know ,every year or so use up the first bag then replace with a new one

  • ★★★★★

  • very good video. at this points my family are getting rid of and replacing our oats.

a lot of oatmeal in our house,

do you have a wheat grinder?

  • yep watch my farm videos

  • i have lots of rice..

  • what do myou call lots? and how is it stored. Unless it is in light and air tight mylar bags with oxygen absorbers the shelf life of the rice could only be 2 or 3 years

  • around 8 lbs right now i think..... i will look into that storage though cause its not stored in that.

    thx :)

  • 8 pounds????????????? OMG that is barely enough for a week! Annie Annie Annie...

  • i said "right now" and thats not ONLY what i have i have like 20 lbs of beans. + like 100 cans of can food. i have flour and cornmeal.. and some other stuff i cant think of.

i cant just go buy all of it right now. i get a lil at a time.

  • but but in your origanal post you said you have lots of rice..... We are gonna have to work on our communication skills LOL When I say I have a good bit of food storeage I mean I have over 300lbs of rice 200 lb of beans 70 pounds of soup stock (2 5gal buckets) 105 lb of bisquick 40 pounds of oats over 100lb of suger. And that was just what i put up in 2008

  • <3

youre funny. i have some, started. of course i add to it everytime i go to the store.

  • Informative video Dave. Thanks

  • Thanks bro good vid.

  • 242 callories per cup of COOKED rice as demonstrated 2 cups of dry rice = more than 4 cups of cooked rice closer to 5 cups so using that 5 X 242 = 1210 aprox calories per pound of dry rice

  • 1 cup of rice is approximately 200 calories.
