If you do find a bird who's hurt themselves by flying into your window / sliding door, the best way to take care of them is to put them into a dark area in a box with air holes and let it rest for a while. Don't disturb them too much. After a few hours, bring the box outside, open the top and if it still can't fly away, let it rest some more, maybe a day or two. Try feeding it seed and fruit. If it still can't fly, bring it to an animal hospital.
I saw my first Cardinal when In Alabama. (I'm from Scotland) and asked the person I worked for what it was.
It was obvious why it was called a Cardinal. :)
Boss was thinking how this world was all new to me and didn't know the animals or birds that were seen by me.
Lovely bird and glad it recovered. As people have said before, out a sticker on the window or something like wind chimes in front of the window to see if that stops it hitting the glass.
how sweet my papa had a "pet" cardinal it was wild but it would let him hold it and heslept with him but papa accidently rolled overin his sleep and the bird died papa is still scared 4 life (thatwas 50 yrs. ago)

leave the damn bird alone cardinals are the most stupidest birds ever one came at me and launded on my shoulder they hit my window and fall down everyday!
I would've tortured it, they always wake me up in the morning. I would put a loud alarm noise next to it 24/7 to make it experience sleep deprivation..let them know how I feel.
The woman's voice in this video could heal ANYTHING!!! Seriously, you've got magical tones in your voice. Good for you, healing this wee birdie and posting it online. Thank you for being such a caring soul.
Hello, Lisa! Yes, he sure is a sight to behold, isn't he? What a beautiful, beautiful bird! He looked so sad and dazed as you were holding him, but your soothing words and gentle touch really must have lifted his spirits. It takes someone extra special with a heart of gold to give as much TLC as you have given to this precious cardinal, and I hope you'll be hearing his sweet songs for a long, long time. Thank you so much for sharing your heartwarming story with us, and God Bless you always!
Great job taking care of him! I had a male goldfinch hit my window a few summers ago, and I took care of him until he was well enough to fly again. I got wonderful close up pictures. I have a male cardinal in my backyard that comes up to my bedroom window if I forget to feed him. He chirps for me when he sees me take out the garbage, and if I whistle he comes. I really should get it on video. Thanks for posting! I love cardinals!
Wow you care a lot! If I saw a bird like that, I would nurse it too! My sister nursed a butterfly that had a bad wing! Then it got strong enough to fly around my living room and then we let it free! You will be blessed for what you did. Thank you.
Well, this touched my heart...how sweet of you, to take the time to care. Imagine everyone in the world processing this quality for all life. What a different world it would be. Thank you for sharing, he was beautiful.
cardinals are so beautiful,, living in nc,, its our state bird,, and i have seen fewer and fewer of them lately,,bless you for nursing the little guy back to health..=)
same thing happened to me the other day, but I didn't get a picture...wish I had, however, he's still here flying into my window everyday and I'm afraid he's going to knock himself out again.
If you can get some kind of sticker to go on your window it would help and your feeding should be either over 12 feet from you window or closer than 10 feet. A study was done believe it or not on just how far a feeder can be to stop them from hitting windows and that was the answer. Hope this helps :)
i was sorry to see the boy cardy in such helpless straits yet i envy you the chance to nurse him to health.
on a side note, you seem to be waging an internal battle between rationality and science on one hand versus old-timey religion on the other. which half will prevail? :D
Oh wow, he is beautiful! Thank you for caring for him.
If birds flying into your windows and doors are a problem, you can buy stickers of bird shapes to put on the window which will help them to see that it's not transparent.
I agree with the other comments - I love birds and other animals too. It's too bad more people don't realize how calming and it is to watch and listen to the birds - it would make for a more peaceful world.
hi , your just like my mom who would do anything to help a fallen animal. :) nice job and video. hopefully it will come back to you. have you seen the bird lately? flying around your place? did it become more tamer towards you?
