The song is from the queen of baladi, Fatme Serhan, and it's called taht il shebbak (meaning, under your window) someone can correct the title if I did not write it correctly :o)
Nagua Fuad is very right by saying that bellydancing is not only shaking at all, and I hope that all"shakin' chicks" will discover the beauty of real egyptian dance one day
I agree Josephine, this is a beautiful art form that has a root from Pharonic times. It is the celebration of Feminity, the expression of a woman, it is a what a women represents. As all bellydancers, we have a responsibility to preserve and carry on this wonderful art. Western Hip hop and other dance styles are more lewid and overly sexual in movements than bellydance, why is it judged so badly?
You know the people who hate bellydance do not have a flattering view of hip hop or anything else at all. they hate everytime a woman "produces" herself in front of men, even just by singing, which most people worldwide will agree is one of the most important art forms throughout human civilizations. they actually hate women and men mixing - they hate every kind of "impure" social life. It has no boundary, they will ban EVERYTHING like witchhunters of Europes MiddleAge
It´s so sad that the most greates dance style in the world, is not loved any more in Egypt and other arabs world.
The more islam grove the more dance and music is forbitten. They say it´s Haram. I ask why? It´s such a great dance, elegant, powerfull, many kind of folklore, full of live and exspresion.
Please tell me why??
Egypt and all the arabic world shult be proud of this historical dance art, they have inharred.
MANY still love it, only of course conservative backlash impacts upon whether you stand by loving it or rather keep quiet on it!
And many young Egyptians now show the attitude of HATING it. I often wonder if they have to stress so much they hate it, because deep down they love it?
Religion is supposed to make people good - but that seems to be true only for the most uncivilised people who would have no conscience and eat other human beings for breakfast (which probably does not exist in most so called "uncivilised" cultures either).
Yet for a developed human society with culture and philosophy it seem to me religion is the barbarian force suppressing everything beautiful. And every freedom or choice.Brings war. I've become really fed up with it as you can tell :)
