  • this guys voice reminds me of the short squeaky guy in "I love You Man"

  • Is that a Flat Screen TV at the back?

  • damn and I just notice the guy is a mac user. it explains a lot about his shallowness.

  • qho is this second guy he just talks and yeps wasting my time, give me the walkthrough allready, sheesh

  • @yotamarker the guy is trying to impress his manager fuck proprietary software

  • Go python! I was getting sick and tired of PHP anyways.

  • Why do they give an example of a LAMP stack when it doesn't even support that yet?

  • @mikeytusa It's all about the concept.

  • can you make games with Google App Engine

  • @xboondocksx Yeah, and there's much more to just making games.

  • one more reason to learn python :p

  • You guys are great public spekers

  • App Engine Rocks!!!

  • YEAH! Its so easy and a great resources and framework.

  • ok where are the marshmellows?? :) I got a song to play. :)

  • Python Rules!

  • you are bound to a certain programming language (python)

your code is at google, arent there legal concerns too consider! You want to own your own code!

Control over the OS is also important for some webapps.

This is all cool but it comes with a lot of limitations.

  • Use Django which can be deployed in a bunch of environments and basically plugs into Google App Engine...

The IP issues are non-existent, of course you own your own code.

Python is a fine choice for a web scripting platform, but other languages are coming.

  • Ahh... but you could say that about ANY web host. Couldnt you? so shut up.

  • Nope,.. i can choose my own programming language, have full os control and i can even login with ssh (i have my own server)

appengine is great but has its limits.

i am not going to shut up because i am right and you are wrong (in this case).

  • Not if you ever had any decent enough traffic to need to scale. Then you're dead wrong.

  • pictures taken from a helicopter from a side angle instead of straight down, not that exciting

  • What are you kidding I used one of those photo's in a court case, googel maps didnt show what was needed, also many towns are using the photo's along with the tax maps, something that can never be done with Google E, I dont know how the pics were taken but they cover vast areas and they are very usefull. lololol I know you guys want to stick up for the underdog, but come on be real!

  • I cannot agree, Python is the fastest growing programming language in the past 5 years in the Tiobe, so developers are going Python .... as having some of the better evolution curves (if not the better) it also makes easier to have new developers, born into Python.

  • @fcanesin Python is indeed powerful.

Python used to be slow, and now that's the common belief. It's always been powerful, however.

I don't know, I think there is some competition, that is, between Python and Lua. Python has a tougher development cycle due to them maintaining both the 2x and 3x versions of Python. And with the release of Lua 5.2 coming soon, I'm thinking Python might be taken.

But Python will still remain as the most powerful.

  • Zeekle - You make a off-topic random allegation (that I think is false) and a lazy connection to this topic. Oh and stupid use of expletives. You're fired! have a nice day.

  • I dont understant why you comment is so negative, sounds logical !! to me. i whish the google huggers can explane them self's.. I think they all want a job with google so they kiss up, or their are already working at gooogel

  • If you want this to be successful you need to have beginner tutorials.

You start off saying how much easier you make it for everyone, some guy starts coding python in a way I've never seen it done before.

I've taken python tutes and did well - but I'm a 10 year PHP, JavaScript and ActionScript developer so I'm going to need a lot better overview of what you're doing.

Does anybody know a site that explains making google apps? Please don't link basic python tutes, I've already done those.

  • @zeekle, a good place to start is the getting-started guide -- there's a link to it from the URL that's listed in the video info up above

also, look for the articles link on that site for tutorials/etc on specific coding needs

  • Welcome to the future of webdev, good job googlites - once again.

  • And the second speaker totally had his speech memorized.

  • Yea, he needs work.

  • Let's take over the world!!

  • Database with Google hosting!? Awesome, about time!

  • A bit tightly scripted.

  • very good

  • aaaand Scoble sits up front like a little kid.

  • I dont think this is an attempt at the enterprise or business at all, quite the opposite. I'd use it for quick and dirty apps. Looks awesome.

  • Interesting play into the enterprise, and business apps.

  • sweet
