  • Yuzo Koshiro and Tokuhiko Uwabo, ladies and gentlemen.

    <3 this game's music.

  • @Eep386 Tokuhiko "BO" Uwabo did a great job with the original material. But don't forget Izuho "IPPO" Takeuchi, of Sonic 2, Phantasy Star 3 and 4 fame, and NEKO (but I don't know his /her work) contribution to this soundtrack ;)

Never heard of any other 8-bit games that needed multiple composers but I'm glad Sega pulled out all the stops :)

  • @GrishnakAthanor Of course, how could I forget ol' Ippo!!! Izuho Takeuchi is another one of my favorites. I also like K.N.U. (King Colossus and Bio-Hazard Battle) a lot, too.

Actually, if you get me started on my favorite Genesis musicians, I'll start rambling on for pages... :P

  • Oh shit! I love this song!

Have you played any of the other Ys games? They're really good, and the music is excellent in all of them.

I suggest you look up Ys 1 & 2 Complete for the PC if you haven't yet, which are basically updated versions of Ys 1 & 2. The music is just as awesome if not better.

  • @Matsute nah, I just have the SEGA master system version. Tbh, it really isn't my type of game, it was fun until I had to enter that huge tower. Manual map writing just isn't my thing.

  • @DaDoppen Oh, you don't have to do that in the PC versions. They're quite straightforward in my opinion, so if that's what turned you off from it before I strongly suggest you give the PC versions a try. The most tricky place is probably towards the end in Ys 2, but even that can be solved without manual map trickery.

  • @Matsute Oh. But still, not really my type of game. I have some good memories from this one, but I just don't like the genre very much.

  • @DaDoppen Ah, all right. That's something even a redesign won't fix. :P

However, you could check out some of the later Ys games are WAY different different though, like for example Ys 3 and Oath in Felghana. Really fun and fast paced action RPGs compared to Ys 1 & 2.

Damn, I'm advertising Ys like hell. But it's really hard not to when it's such a nice series (specially because of the music). xD

  • @Matsute Hehe, well it's the RPG genre I don't like, so... XD

  • @DaDoppen LOL

All right, I'll stop spamming you with this then. xD

(...Even though those other Ys games are more hack 'n slash oriented :P)

  • I am so downloading this soundtrack.

  • @mountainmage do that, it has some great tracks.

  • @DaDoppen Oh, I did, sir. I did.

  • @mountainmage feel free to PM me a link, I had to rip this from the GYM-file or what-it's-called.

  • Megadrive = Genesis (16 bit), Master System was 8 bit, though their lifespans overlapped.

  • Sick. Back when everything was original. Gah. This makes me want to go on a hunt for old 8bit and 16 bit music. Great stuff.

  • @Snoooootch Thanks. This brings back a lot of childhood memories, so I just had to upload it. Although, I think the original game was released for Sega Mega Drive or something, so this is a remix XD

  • @DaDoppen Sega Mega Drive?! First time I'm hearing about this!

  • @Snoooootch I think it's the same thing as the Sega genesis.

  • @DaDoppen Ahaha, Well, Every Day, I learn something New.

  • @Snoooootch Looks like I was wrong about the mega drive thing though, it says this in the game's wikia: "Initially developed for the PC-8801, X1, PC-9801, FM-7/FM-77, FM-77AV, and MSX2 Japanese systems, Ancient Ys Vanished saw many subsequent releases, such as English-language versions for the Master System, DOS, IIGS, and TurboGrafx-16, and enhanced remakes for the Saturn and Windows systems. It has also been released for the Nintendo DS."

  • @DaDoppen wow, that's a good chunk of info. wiki is so good to us. i remember buying a sega saturn for a buck.

  • @Snoooootch My friend has a Saturn with SFA, ah, we've had so much fun with that thing.

  • @DaDoppen Sweet! I only had Virtua Fighter. It was great though. We got it at a thrift store where they had a sign saying "1 Buck for a full bag of plush toys." We put a sega saturn that my brother found in the back after he sneaked in, and he put it in the bag with all the plush toys. I payed. We got to the car and he hands me the bag. It was heavy, so I asked him why, and he said, "It's a surprise."

  • @Snoooootch Hahahaha, sounds like good times.

  • @DaDoppen

Some of the best. Well, Good luck on your current project. I'm working on Zangief's trials for video. I added Dan hibiki from the "Street fighter High" videos as a pop in. lol
