It is a powerful statement. My only comment would be that there should have been more of the "excess" in combination with the "desperation". Visions of groaning buffet tables at fund raising events and White House dinners come to mind with "fat cats' robed in designer frocks and furs, raising champagne flutes brimming with the finest to one another's success which is mostly due to someone elses hard work.
