I really like this but I have a question; doesn't drawing the Dresden tool down the petals negate the point of using the embosser? I have the same cutters and always lose the embossed detail because the amount of pressure you have to put on the tool smooths out the petal and erases the detail, which I think is a shame :)
@novelynette Not so much. First, make sure your original gum paste is really thin, and give a nice firm push on the embossing button. When I pull with the tool, I kind of start right where that embossing is to make sure I don't "rub" it out. It's kind of my guide line. :) Even if some gets rubbed out, there is so much detail in the frill of the ends of the petals, that whatever is left still gives a lovely appearance.
@beautifulayanna You can buy them at Sweet Wise. Click on our name, SweetWiseInc so you can get to our channel (while you're there, you can subscribe and see our other videos). There are shopping links at the top of the page. Thanks for watching!
I've tried this and they turned out really nice. Those plunger cutters are a Godsend. I have regular daisy cutters and the paste always got stuck and tore. I like being able to get the paste loose with the plunger. Please have more tutorials for flowers.
I LOVE the flowers! ok Why can't the wire go into the cake? Isn't floral craft wire safe for foods? I've seen several cakes on youtube wher ethey have a fanned out spray of stars or other topper accents made from fondant stuck into wire... I can't wait to get these petal cutters. Beats the flowers we learned how to make icing we used from cake decorating class! Thanks for the detailed tutorial!
@crazy4crafts It is not food safe. A couple of things can go wrong- they can rust from the moisture, even if it is the smallest piece that is exposed through tape or coating. That would be poisonous. Also, a tip can break off. You don't want to be the person that has a guest swallow a small piece of wire. Beyond the hazards, it can stain your cake, or tear through it from the weight of the gumpaste. Many ways to get around it. Straws filed with royal icing or white chocolate works well also. :)
@crazy4crafts WOW! That is so surprising to hear! & I'm GLAD I saw this on your video bc I NEVER knew this. So many people put videos up & they shw pics, using wires.. I never thought to make sure if I do that, they'd have to be a certain kind. GOOD info & I think I'll stick to plastic lol until I learn more! THANKS so much for the info AND the reply! MUCH appreciated :)
@paperlace24 I do use mine a lot. I have someone locally that trained one of her staff completely from my videos; never had to send her in for a class! This Gerbera was one of her specialties!!!
Excellent video! You don't waste time talking about what products you use. Very helpful tips. I never heard of using fondant glue. Great idea!! Thanks so much for sharing!
