This information is not up to date. The latest study was done at the Camp Ripley archery hunt using infrared technology. Look the study up for yourself and you will see that bow hunting is very effective and only a small percentage of animals go unfound.

We are not liars. You do realize that our new bows shoot will over 300fps and are very accurate for a great distance, we have light carbon arrows and broad heads that will rip a deer apart. That study, which is one of biggest ones ever done on bow hunting wounding losses, shows only 13% of wounded deer were not recovered. This study is an older on though to. So today with the major improvements in archery technology with the compound bows, broadheads, and arrows, bow hunting wounded deer loss numbers are very low.

TAYLOR COUNTY (WAOW) -- A 65 year old hunter is dead after apparently falling from a tree stand in the town of Maplehurst.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff's Department, the man was found by other hunters Tuesday afternoon and appeared to already be deceased.

you have got to factor in several things when thinking about this.

first of all, humans make mistakes. such as, flinching or pulling your shot, shooting too early, too late, etc. etc.

equipment fails from time to time. after all a bow is only a tool. tools wear out and malfunction if not serviced properly.

animals are unpredictable and move around alot. making a clean shot hard to accomplish in certain situations.

We do target them. It is called educating. There are laws that require people to take classes and training before hunting. Us lot take those courses and follow the laws. As with any lawbreaker, these irresponsible characters who give hunting a black eye are not standing on a corner yelling "here I am." We try the best we can, with our money and our example to educate as many as we can. It is very hard to stop someone who is taking pot shots at animals or illegally hunting. We do the best we can.

Bowhunting by its very nature is IMPOSSIBLE to do accurately. The bowhunter has to work out the angle of the trajectory of the bow and most deer run immediately they hear the "twang" of the bow thats why the rate if shooting and not killing clean and quick is at 50%!
