@MrSucky101 WRONG Michael Bay had no intention of using the VW bug. He said it reminded him too much of Herbie the Love Bug. You can see the interview on the DVD of the first Transformer movie. I think it's ironic though, that, even though he didn't want Bumblebee to look like Herbie, he made him ACT like Herbie. He doesn't talk in the beginning, he plays love songs to get Sam & Mikela together. And makes him do all sorts of things that has nothing to do with being a Transformer.

He COULD have just said that it was VW's decision to keep their Beetle out of the movie, but nope. He had to go ahead and say the bug was stupid for a handful of reasons that don't make a lick of sense. He couldn't imagine a bug going 200 MPH? Here we have another moron that's ok with calling a giant robot that transforms into a cool-ass camaro a GAY NAME like "Bumblebee" I don't care that Michael bay didn't use the VW bug, but it is STUPID to call anyother giant robot "Bumblebee" it makes no god damn SENSE. @BustUpBots If Michael Bay wants cooler vehicles to be the Autobots that's fine, but he shouldn't have used the same names from G1 because his version has nothing to do with the original. Also, making Bumblebee a sports car makes him just like all the other Autobots, now there's nothing unique about him to make him stand out. I also think it's real funny that Bay didn't want the VW because it reminded him of Herbie the Love bug, but he was ok giving that Camaro-bot Herbie's personality.

We KNOW about the legal issues surrounding the VW bug, and the fact that Michael Bay didn't like it in the first place because it reminds him of Herbie the Love bug. Not all of his movies are completely bad. But I do have something against ego-maniacs who takes a concept that has had a huge fan-base for over 20 years, and turns it into his own story. Fans of the original Transformers waited decades to see their favorite VolksWagon Auto-bot come to life, and instead, they got a Camaro-bot. Now fans have to wait another 20 years for a new director to re-make this film and clean this mess of a movie, up.

I'm not into cars, so I just found out there's a Dodge musclecar called the "Super Bee" and its been around for a while. The pics I seen on google images are sweet. Since Micheal Bay couldn't get the rights for the volkswagon, why couldn't he try to use the Super Bee? THAT would have made sense.

Cuz Michael Bay is an egotistical asshole. He didn't want to use the Volkswagen beetle cuz it wasn't tough enough. He says it in an interview you can see it on the Transformers movie 2 disc set. So he made it a Camaro. Yeah, real logical right? a giant robot named Bumblebee from a planet that doesn't have insects, comes to earth and becomes...a muscle car Camaro.

Michael Bay Also did an idiotic last-minute name change on the tank. it's supposed to be Brawl, the Combaticon. Every version of the toy was shipped to toy stores as Brawl, in the video game, he's Brawl, but in the movie he's Devastator. What a dope. Now kids can't complete their toy collection cuz they can't find Devastator. Imagine if George Lucas changed Darth Vader's name to Hank at the last minute & screwed up his first line of action figures back in the 70s.

@NATED0Go33 - correct, Brawl would be a better name since in the G2 cartoons, his alternate form is a tank. Devastator is all of the combaticons put together.

I guess Michael Bay retained the name for the recall factor since the other G1 Transformers had also retained thier own names but had gotten a similar alternate form to their cartoon predecessors. Only Bumblebee (and by extension Sound Wave and Megatron) did not retain their old cartoon alternate forms.

The old cartoon was mostly crap, why mess up the few things that were good about it? We know Michael Bay couldn't get the rights to the volkswagon bug. No VW bug, no Bumblebee. Simple. Change the name to something tougher like "Stinger" or "Yellowjacket" & the fans wouldn't mind so much. MB was too lazy to re-write the story. BB was supposed to be an old VW then change to the modern version later. a Camaro is too cool a car to call it Bumblebee.

You Honestly think it's a coincidence that the original car was a Volkswagon? And they called him Bumblebee because he was yellow? Originally all the transformers had 2 or more colorschemes. I Owned a yellow "CliffJumper" red "Bumblbee" Even though he was red, he was still "Bumblebee". Go ahead and Google it.
