There are a number of inaccuracies in this description ... for example the statement that all mobile electrons are generated in the depletion region, or the visual description showing the holes are immobile and the the electron travels to the one left behind. Also the majority of the resistance is not in the depletion region ... the majority of resistance is caused by impurities throughout the whole wafer ... also a conceptual inaccuracy ... electrons loose energy in recombination, not travel.
Waaaaait. Why does the electron goes through the negative side if there is an excess amount of electrons there? Shouldn't it go to the positive side since there are more holes there?
@sandslash123 this is due to the electric field that the p-n junction is creating in the center. That is why, the only way for the electrons to fill the holes is through a circuit. This circuit leads the electrons to the holes in the positive layer.
Does the photovoltaic cell ever deplete? Does this process continue indefinitely?

Well done: this is one of best explanations for how solar energy generates electricity. (however I wish that the resolution and audio was clearer.)

OMG MY TEACHER WAS A SCIENCE HIPPY!
Judging by his hair alone... I conclude that he knew alot about lysergic acid diethylamide and t.etrahydrocannabinol.
