Here in MAINE CMP used Stimulus money (for creating jobs) to restart their "smart meter" program that they could not afford before but now can, leading to cutting meter reader jobs. USED STIMULUS MONEY TO CUT JOBS.
The electric companies want to use the meters to impose prices that change hourly on customers. By charging you more during high-usage "peak" times on hot days, they hope to persuade you to shift your usage to "off-peak" evenings and weekends, as many consumers now do with long-distance phone calls.
With a new smart meter they charge you double during peek times. You bill can easily double!!!!!!!! It's only smart for them.
@MrHillDo first paragraph is right. second paragraph is wrong. where did you get the idea that it will double? What happened with PG&E in America does not mean the same for every other smart grid around the world. A proper framework and good implementation is key.
Ahh.. siemens, the same company that brought us the Third Reich and the rise of the nazis now all of the sudden care about people and installs smart meters which will send information about us to databases. yes, lovely siemens. great company.

When we signed the contract with the utility company, THE INDUCTIVE METER WAS A PART of the agreement between us (supplier/customer).
It doesn’t matter WHAT that old meter measured !!!
It could be [Approximated Kilowatt Hour] alias AKwh , OR it could be [Esoteric Joules] alias EJ
It doesn’t matter what we thought the meter measured because AT THAT TIME we accepted it’s counting “habits”.
Then we trusted Tesla (the man who invented AC , built the first power plant... induction meters = OK)
