No hybrids, no chicanes, no diesels, no restrictions, but only real heros with balls, who dare to drive this magnificent cars. F*ck Le Mans organisation nowadays!
@miauw777 yeah... and you can add catch fencing, further and further restricted viewing at places like Arnage, and I even get annoyed thinking of all those great little individual cafes, bars and food outlets back in the 80s, replaced with corporate tedium. Big shame... but still a brilliant weekend away :-)
About the red windscreen band thing: the factory Porsche team used to run their spare cars in practice with red windscreen bands, as opposed to the blue and white on the regular cars and yellow on the third car for Le Mans.
see it over and over and over again, that incredible sound of that porsche engine! And what a beautiful circuit the old circuit was, ban the chicanes, this was a circuit for men with balls, not for the nowadays softies!
I am glad to hear I am not mad, there are others out there who find this clip so unbelievably intoxicating. I used to watch these wondermachines sing and dance at the old Kyalami (not the current go kart circuit we have been cursed with) Another good you made, I cannit understand why people specify they would like a radio and cd in their flat 6 Porsche - it is without doubt the most intoxicating music on this planet - Porsche is proof to the world the Germans indeed have passion.....
absolutley the best racing video ever, that unforgettable sound of group c, i want this back and throw away the chicanes at le mans. This are the real drivers!
Truly the very best video recording of speed. Not ince that time period has any Le Manns type race car or race for that matter been as exciting. Derek Bell is probably the greatest sports car driver of all time. He has won 5 Le Manns races during his illustrious career and this video exemplifies his courage and driving expertise. Before the Le Manns track was reworked into a boring politically correct overly safe race track, it was the most exciting track anywhere in the world.
Had no idea even a Porsche racing car could do 246 mph. Guess this driver, mentioned name but don't recall it, is doing what most of us can only dream about doing. And if we tried to drive like this, we might be in a permanent dream state real quick.
its not the 956 its the 917 from the 1970s

395.89km/h on the Mulsanne in 1983. That's fast in anyone's language.
And they should seriously get rid of one, if not both of the Mulsanne chicanes.....IMO.

sadly it never comes back, due to the f**king
chicanes! And they must ban dieselpowered engines. The the good days will return!

@Holden308
I'm affraid it's all because of health and safety even in Motorsport.
Anything designed to curtail the speed of racecars ie chicanes is there to prevent accidents and slow cars down.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Cannon Porshe
1984 Le Mans, Richard Lloyd Racing.
Derek Bell wasn´t in 1984 Le Mans. He was 2nd in 1983 Le Mans with 956 Rothmanns, also Ickx.
However, the red windshield, was common on Cannon Porsche 956, Richard Lloyd Racing.

This is GODLIKE! Le Mans cars are not nearly as fast now as they were 20 years ago.

The track has been modified so that they can't go as fast as they did back then.

Up until 1990, then they put two chicanes in it. Derek Bell covered 3.5 miles in less than a minute with this car during the race.
