She's fantastic live. At first I thought she was just lip syncing the album version, until I noticed small vocal differences. (Before she got to the chorus.) What a great performer.
Fawking amazing clip... What an amazing song, and band! How many performers put in like Chrissy does. She doesnt pretend or hold back.. Brilliant.
We were spoilt in the 80's in Aussie with so many top shelf bands.. None better than the Divinyls.
In relation to the violence, I dont know if its related, but apparently she didnt have the best childhood at home with her old man.. As I say dont know if it has anything to do with this song.
you are not correct in what she say's in the lyrics SupernalOne, she is taking on the part of Elsie's abuser, she say's " open the door woman, open the door, open the door woman, open the door, open the door woman, open the f&%ken door " Elsie has obviously locked herself in a room to avoid domestic violence.
@outbackaddict You're embarrassing yourself with your interpretation. Do yourself a favour and see the film..."Monkey Grip". (BTW, it's "open the door WALLY")
it's been sad before but I'll say it again...... Chrissy is so underrated she has a power thats unique her and her alone. Just glad I got to see them perform at Manly beach in Sydney back in 89.
Ah, the godess of rock chicks. And those guitars... There's my young years again. Don't think this was on the Australian release of Desperate. It was on the soundtrack of the 'Monkey Grip' movie.
At one point she screams (in the album she absolutely squalls) "I'm in the doorway! I'm in the door!" I always took it to mean that the character in the song was on the verge of killing herself, of throwoing herself off one of those ledges, and crying out in horror and desperation -- I really don't think I've heard any band or singer approach this subject as heart-wrenchingly as these guys do -- Bono tried, but I couldn't see that he comprehended the suicidal mindset - Amphlett, I can - wow!
Mannn... Haven't heard this for such a long time. One of their best. Only now, it occurs to me that Doc Neeson would do a great cover of this. Underrated...
What a blast from the past. This used to be the song to calm the crowd as they would leave the stage one by one. Then they would come out blating with the encore.
This is one of the most amazing songs ever written. She sings it with so much impact that I get goosebumps. This song has went mostly unnoticed and that pisses me off. The album version is even better. Lyrics put you there. No one sings with the edge of this girl even today. Pure emotion like I've never seen.

Proves they could easily match Siouxsie and the Banshee's finest songs or performances. Vast;y under-rated Band.
Chrissie can easily hold her own against Bowie, Gabriel or Iggy Pop for viceral and unique talent.
This is sung by someone who stared down into the abyss that killed Kurt Cobain...and survived the experience.
A STAGGERING song. Should have 10 million views. Thanks for performances.

Love the Divinyls. Made me believe in rock.
Chrissie the best female rock voice. At the age of 20 caught the train from Kings Cross to Blacktown for their concert.
