Im ashamed to say I pick up accents really easily. I went to North Carolina for two weeks and couldn't stop saying certain words with a southern twang. My bloke couldn't stop laughing at me. It sounds dumb as hell but some people can't help it.

i think for kimeven though she moved there young maybe she grew up around family that had the accent so she learnt to talk in that accent. For example i have a bit of my fam. accen and maybe she travelled alot to england. Or maybe she is faking a bit but why would she do that to recieve critiscism from the english audience

I think her managers or someone should tell her that the fake accent is unspeakably terrible. Im not British, even not an english native speaker, but I can understand it is so embarrassing to Brits.

Why is it some American celebrities do that accent? Kim, Gillian Anderson and of course Madonna. Yes, they have English roots except for Madge, but most of her time was not in the UK, wasnt it?

@Gizuy80 - Well, Gillian Anderson was born in England and moved to the States when she was in her 20's, so that accent isn't faked. She just did a really good American one for "The X-Files". Kim was born in England but moved to Canada as a young child, so I don't know what her excuse is.

I love Kim Cattrall, but I don't know what's going on with her accent here. Yes, she was born in Liverpool but moved to Canada when she was under a year old and grew up there. She has lived in America since her late teens as far as I know and I've seen other UK interviews she's done and her accent was totally North American. Here it seems like she's retaining her Private Lives accent offstage. It's certainly not her real one.

you guys, im not trying to defend her or anything, but some people just pick up the way other people talk. like for example i went to mexico and started kinda speaking like them. maybe its not a fake accent, she's just been spending time there and isnt even forcing it, she cant help it. but then again, theres no way to be sure

Love her but the accent was a bit forced and fake. She is English but she never had an English accent. But I can relate though.. Living in England for 4 years has turned my American accent into a trans-atlantic accent. So basically I stopped stressing the Rs.
