oh wow ok brain fart i remember now. split phase is not the motor i was thinking of lol. i wasnt talking about repolsion start either lol. what is that other motor called that has the little brushes that run on the plate like armature constantly not only at start up? i know its not the universal motor. damn i forgot
@madmowerz brandon i belive you are refering to a brush riding repulshion induction motor. they operate just like a brush lifter but instead of the centrifugal weight lifting the brushes it shorts out the commutator using a necklace. the advantage to a brushlifter is the increased brush life
hey man its animebsd. aka brandon lol this is my engine/motor channel. i just got a pump just like this one. 1/12hp motor and all. mine makes the same clicking noise. are these really split phase? now split phase is when current goes through the armature also correct? ill post a vid soon of the gossett pump runnning
The clicking noise you mention is likely the internal start switch. You show both parts of it in the video. The switch is crucial to the start operation of the motor. I just rmoved a GE motor from a B&G 100 pump--similar deal. The motor needs a new start switch but is otherwise a decent motor. I plan to clean it out with electric spray cleaner...
@DOLRED i dont think it was the centrifugal switch. i am quite familiar with how motors operate and some of the theorys behind them. i know this is a splitphase motor. i belive the clicking turned out to be a leaf or twig or something caught in the rotor that had entered through a vent opening if i recall right.
