The storyline is kinda good, but it's completely trumped by the fact that you no longer feel like you're playing a game. Playing this game reminds me of playing Xenosaga 1... it's like, ALL CUTSCENES.

I mean, I get that they're saying that IGN gives stellar reviews to IGN every time and never calls it repetitive, but seeing people comparing a third person action RPG to a first person shooter? Kind of a ridiculous thing to do.
While I thought Yakuza 3 was better than Yakuza 4 I think Yakuza 4 is a Great game that kept me on the edge of my seat at many points in the game

Hey guys. Should i get Yakuza 4? I played all yakuza games and LOVED Yakuza 3 specially. I enjoyed it so much that i did it 100% and have the platinum trophy. But i don't know if i should get this one because you play as 4 different characters and what i like the most about the yakuza games is Kazuma's personality. @GameXplorer7191 "Yakuza 3" and "Yakuza 4" are incredible. I finished the campaign mode for both games with about 28-29 hours of gameplay EACH. Get this, with all those hours of gameplay, only about 5% of the games content was complete. These games are epic and nearly endless. "Yakuza 4" has everything left intact. In "Yakuza 4" you play the game from 4 different perspectives using 4 different characters. And "Yakuza: Dead Souls" and "Yakuza 5" are on the way.

While there are some similarities to "Shenmue" (both franchises made by Sega), they have their own distinct feel to them. You can play "Virtua Fighter Pachinko" at Volcano in "Yakuza 4"...so cool.
Just bought this game since I recently bought a PS3 since the 360 lacks on the exclusive department. This game is a lot better than what IGN gives it credit for, but then again, I didn't play any of the previous ones so it was like a fresh new game for me.

Here is how you know the reviewer wasn't really enjoying the game at its fullest and was blowing through the game. At 1:40 you see that he only completed 4 sub stories when he is playing as Taminia. Yakuza is a game where you just blow through the story missions. It is about taking in the quirky and eccentric culture of Japan by playing through the story, minigames, and sometimes funny and heart warming sub stories.
I live In Taiwan and they are obsessed with Japan over here. I really enjoyed this game and regularly go back to it for a blast or a quirky sub or too. Id say 8.5 and for atmosphere 10!

I love Yakuza the series. They've always been original with the story the gameplay the graphics and the passion they put into the games are so great. I know to some people obviously to this reviewer that Yakuza seems dated because of the things that I listed I like. But I guess you have to be a more open minded person and really into the Japanese culture like I am in order to truly enjoy the games. I think they did great again. Keep coming with more Sega.
the story was good, better than the 3rd. It links together in its multiple naration and expands so much, thats what I loved about it (It feels very deep and thought out). Its repeatitive but I found the same thing with the 3rd, it has the same problems and no offence the 3rd's destinations like Okinawa was pretty awful in design terms, Im glad its gone! Yakuza 4 is more of the same, but its definetly better than the 3rd in nearly all aspects so I think that IGN are being ridiculous with 6.5!

I loved the 3rd one, but I'm offput by just how similar this looks. Combat looks more or less the same, a lot of the animations are reused, and the graphics are identical. Very disappointed that they reused Kamurocho as well, to a T it seems.

@CornishCreamtea07 You don't have to get the other games in order to understand the story because the games comes with a feature the goes through all of the cut scenes from the previous games and is narrated so you can get the major details of the story you need to know. The only thing is that since all the names are Japanese it can be hard to tell all of the names apart if you are not paying attention.

Here is how you know the reviewer wasn't really enjoying the game at its fullest and was blowing through the game. At 1:40 you see that he only completed 4 sub stories when he is playing as Taminia. Yakuza is a game where you just blow through the story missions. It is about taking in the quirky and eccentric culture of Japan by playing through the story, minigames, and sometimes funny and heart warming sub stories.

I live In Taiwan and they are obsessed with Japan over here. I really enjoyed this game and regularly go back to it for a blast or a quirky sub or too. Id say 8.5 and for atmosphere 10!

@Squeaky4CC - It's not shit. The game has a metacritic score of 78 which is a very good rating. Other review sites have rated the game a lot higher than IGN did. IGN gave it a low score for being to familiar to Yakuza 3 which is bs. Every Call of Duty is the same yet they always give it a high score. Don't always listen to IGN most of their reviews suck.

I love Yakuza the series. They've always been original with the story the gameplay the graphics and the passion they put into the games are so great. I know to some people obviously to this reviewer that Yakuza seems dated because of the things that I listed I like. But I guess you have to be a more open minded person and really into the Japanese culture like I am in order to truly enjoy the games. I think they did great again. Keep coming with more Sega.

the story was good, better than the 3rd. It links together in its multiple naration and expands so much, thats what I loved about it (It feels very deep and thought out). Its repeatitive but I found the same thing with the 3rd, it has the same problems and no offence the 3rd's destinations like Okinawa was pretty awful in design terms, Im glad its gone! Yakuza 4 is more of the same, but its definetly better than the 3rd in nearly all aspects so I think that IGN are being ridiculous with 6.5!

Again with the dated graphics argument. How they became the most important aspect of modern games, I will not know. This review kind of implies that no matter how much fun Postal 3 is gonna be, IGN is going to give it a 6 for the looks just like with Yakuza 4.

I love this game, but this review is actually pretty accurate.
They DID reuse textures and assets ect and the graphics (while not everything) are a little behind todays standard.
I found this game to be fun with a great sense of humour, and at times dramatic too, so overall the game is great, just with a few... niggles.

I loved the 3rd one, but I'm offput by just how similar this looks. Combat looks more or less the same, a lot of the animations are reused, and the graphics are identical. Very disappointed that they reused Kamurocho as well, to a T it seems.
I'm still gonna buy, and I'm still probably gonna enjoy it. But I think it could have been more.
