ok im getting real pissed off because i live outside of chicago, near the woods, and there is a pond that freezes in the winter, only its not frozen yet because of the stupid warm weather were getting :/
Does it make much of a difference if I'm on rollerblades. I don't have much of an opportunity to make it to the ice rink so I got roller blades so that I could practice more often.
Ok hockey tryouts tomorrow i want to try out wich i am) but my one reason why i might not make is is because i cant skate backwards. how will i be able to do these things at tryouts plz reply thx
I will try this :) Just have to get bought my safety gear first.. I fell straight on my ass when practicin today.. Haha, thats why i dont like too fall when not wearing Safety gear :P
Ok so this is not a question specificaly for going backwards but more about skating overall. Is there any difference in skating with goalie skates and normal player skates or can you apply all these tipps to both?
If not do you know a good site or video where one culd learn more about goalie skating?
(I have skated before but only a few times when I was in school and when I was a kid), I am 21 years now but hey its never to late to learn new things ey? :)
@mrbalaboo IMO, anyone that's this good at skating on ice, is at the professional level. I see these kinds of folks (as well as the other HOTSHOT speed/dance/extreme skaters) locally, and believe you me, they deserve the credit of the term 'Pro'. If you've ever been to an ice rink, you know who I'm talking about. They're the few, the fast, the skilled, VERY talented, and especially: experienced!
Is it the same concept on ice? I'm currently equipment manager for a league team and I can play as a defenseman really well such as how i have a hard accurate slapshot and can pass and puckhandle very well, plus I'm 6'5 and 300 pounds solidly build so I can hold my own out there. The only problem is I'm still not very good at skating although getting better. I have to work on my sharp turns, coming to complete stops fast, and I dont know how to skate backwards which is a must. Any advice?
nice little video here, i was always trying to figure out how to effectively skate backwards. I play ice hockey for fun, but I have never got any real hockey training. I might definately check out your channel
@chihockey7 I got mine at Sportchek during the Olympics, not to sure where you can get them now, maybe ebay or Amazon, do some google searching and see what you find.
@chihockey7 You can probably still get them at Sportchek, at least for now, thanks to the Juniors. Saw lots of Team Canada jerseys there, maybe they have practice jerseys as well.
Great vids and teaching techniques....any chance you can do a vid on backwards crossovers, u did a backward crossover in the video of 'How To Hockey Stop for Beginners!' @ 2:03...really struggling with this
can anyone breakdown how to do the turn at the end? Also, when you are just gliding are you resting on both the inside and outside of your blades? Thanks, I am new.
@monkeyman0077 Yeah when you glide you are mostly on both edges, putting a bit more weight on your inside edges. To do turn at the end you need to learn backwards crossovers, there is a really good video explaining everything on here.
@Kimchi4Korea It would be similar with inline skates, the difference would be that inline skate wheels don't have the same lateral movement as skate blades, so you might have to point your heel / toes more.
Leaning forward is not proper stance for skating backwards is what i was always taught. Then your center of balance isn't below you. Your supposed to be "sitting down" esssentially with a straight back. This is just my 2 cents but feel free to message me if you disagree.
i want to start getting into hockey. cool looking sport but dont understand anything about it except for the obvious parts

Another tip for skating backwards:
Put the weight in the front of your skate, not on the heels.
