With regard to divinity, there is no meaning in making a distinction between the Divine with form and the formless divinity. How can you conceive of the Formless Divine? You cannot avoid idol worship until you have EXPERIENCE OF THE DIVINE WITHIN YOU.
The term VIGRAHA also means an idol that is an object of worship. But these Vigrahas have a certain value It is through them that we can REALISE THE DIVINE. It is impossible to conceive in this world any kind of Aaraadhana (worship) without a form. Worship of the formless is misconceived. It is these misguided persons who preach against idol worship.
The idols that are worshipped are the answers to those who go about asking, "Where is God?" The truth is, GOD IS PRESENT IN EVERY ATOM. Every atom represents the power of the Divine. Every atom deserves to be worshipped. All objects in Creation have to be respected. Men have to cultivate this feeling of reverence for all things.
All the Vedhas are intent on helping man to become aware of DIVINITY IN HIM and all around him. Picture for yourselves the peace that seers gained by that awareness, and yearn to learn the lessons the Vedhas treasure, for all mankind irrespective of caste, creed, race or nationality.

I was raised Catholic, so this whole "Puja" (sp?) and idols they have in Hinduism sound a lot like all the candles of saints Catholics have. My family had shrines for many saints.
As for "God in many forms" sounds a lot like "The Trinity" and how can god be many and the same? Well, water can be gas, solid, and liquid- 3 in 1. So again, many faiths, with similar features- I used Hindu and Christianity here as examples here.

OK, has it ever occurred to any of you how all religions pretty much follow a system of Astrology? From the Mayans, to the Egyptians, from Christians, to Buddhists. Jesus would be considered an avatar in Hinduism. There are many paths up the mountain and they ALL involve the "way" Jesus taught - which was directly in line with Hindu beliefs.

This documentary is interesting, but I found Josephs Campbell's "Transformations of Myth Through Time" so much more fun! I always wondered how accurate Campbell's description of Hinduism was though...
When I lived in India, it seemed the Hinduism he described was very idealized and detached from everyday Hinduism.

What are you on? why do you guys get so defensive when asked a few questions about your religion? Im just asking a question? Answer me with a logical answer if you can.. If I didnt want to learn about other religions then why would I ask questions?
I dont want to convert anyone - I search for truth my self. If others are inspired to search for truth - then great. I just cant stand blind followers!

Just because you are born into a religion doesn't mean it is right. If you follow blindly because your parents did and did not ask questions you are a blind follower which is wrong if u ask me.
That is why I beleive we should all ask questions.

Your answers haven't convinced me. What is more worrying is your and others defensive approach to your beliefs. I can understand its fair to defend it - but not by attacking others or calling them names.
That is very wrong.
If you can respond with a logical answer I would be able to consider it in more depth. Unfortunately I am still waiting. I dont want to convert anyone - only myself to find truth and question everything I know. If you cant handle it - move along please. Live in blindness!

Astrology? surely this is all mythology based. The concepts in a time of darkness would make more sense. But in the current day - It fails to address Discimination issues. A class system is an oppresive society. A good religion advises you and is good for all the people with no exclusivity for anyone apart from the good hearted, pious, spirtual, learnered and honest. I see more truth in Islam. Its fair and covers all aspects of society and life, incorporating science,justice and peace for all.

Hinduism has no single founder. It belongs to many tribes, natives of different races living in ancient India.
In short,
Hinduism=pre-vedic religion + vedic religion
Hinduism became corrupted after aryan brought their vedic religion. Vedic religion such as "chatur-varna"(4-class system) was a shit in the face of the oldest religion.
Kiratas religion is based on ancestors, nature, shamanistic and stone worshiping.

i read a story where there were two hindu brothers ,then one converted to islam ,after about 40-50yrs both died and thier sons started fighting over religion ,
during riots in 1947 these were the ones who burn down each other's houses . nobody from out of the family was involved . wat kind of religion are u folowing cos neither hindu religion nor muslim preaches to kill your own bro's & sis on the name of god .

I was raised Catholic, so this whole "Puja" (sp?) and idols they have in Hinduism sound a lot like all the candles of saints Catholics have. My family had shrines for many saints.
As for "God in many forms" sounds a lot like "The Trinity" and how can god be many and the same? Well, water can be gas, solid, and liquid- 3 in 1. So again, many faiths, with similar features- I used Hindu and Christianity here as examples here.
Again, maybe we've all got it right and getting hung up on details.

That was so nice of u........................idols are just to concentrate the mind on ...............for if u tell a Child that God is ONE OMNIPOTENT unbounded ......etc etc .....he/she will be scared of HIM or the complexity to understand........but as u have seen from childhood .....litting the candles during worship shud have been the 1st attractive feature of a prayer and then u began more and more interested to know Abt LORD JESUS and loved him and His priceless preachings!

OK, has it ever occurred to any of you how all religions pretty much follow a system of Astrology? From the Mayans, to the Egyptians, from Christians, to Buddhists. I mean, even the use of water is the same- I guess what I'm saying is this- You strip away all the details, all faiths are pretty much the same, and you're all fighting over silly details that are probably wrong for all we know.
What if you're all reaching God the right way and the test is to respect one another here?

Is it possible that one day all people will walk with their eyes open?
