I was in need of something at that TIME in my life and I watch the show many times after that. It gave me back my joy that lack for a long while. Whitney will always be that Graceful, Poised and Elegant woman in life and after life Thank you for the video great memories.

  • This is so very inspirational! The praise up in the house! God is GOOD! Whitney lives on in music like this.

  • RIP Whitney there will never be another one like you!

  • I remember this performance and was thinking back then what a talented, gifted family they were. Everyone looks so happy in delivering God's message. Sadly things can never stay the same. I will always love me some Cissy Houston and my blessings go out to her and her family regarding the passing of our star, Whitney Houston. RIP lovely lady.

  • One of my all time favorite Whitney performances. I watched this all the time. Wayyy before she passed. And now that she is gone. I watch it even more. RIP Whitney

  • Sang!

  • This is one of my favorite Whitney performances of all time. I watched it live, and I taped it and watched it over and over! It was such an odd thing to see at the time (so "churchy" for mainstream TV :) ) Thanks so much for uploading it.

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!

  • Um... He can saaaaaaaaaaaang!!!!!! Where is his album?

  • I hope someone is praying for Cissy, Gary, and Bobbi-Christina as they prepare to say a final goodbye to Whitney. (no mother should ever have to bury their child.)

  • One of my FAVORITE Whitney Houston moments! I have this on VHS-lol!! Rest in Peace Sweet Angel. Your heavenly voice is home.

  • I looked for this for years I love you Whitney!

  • ARRIVEDERCI WHITNEY.......THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE OF ALL TIME...FROM ITALY...I LOVE YOU!!!

  • As much as I love Whitney and as someone who is inexplicably devastated by her passing, I am amazed by Cissy’s vocals in this performance! She steals the show! Cissy is a technical beast! Amazing performance by this trio! WOW!!!! (even Whitney admitted she cannot out sing her mother and now I understand why...

  • Man oh man!!! What a treat this is!!! Thank you for posting this!

  • what year was this ?

    rip whitney .

  • RIP WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED.

  • RIP Whitney! You, your mom and Gary took em to church!!

  • That building was just filled with praise and worship! You had people like Grace Jones, Cher, the Doobie Brothers all in their stompping and clapping. Even Melanie Griffith was in tears of joy! What a wonderful performance and joyful noise into the Lord!!!

  • @ssr7736 That wasnt Mel Griffith, that was Gloria Loring, Mother of Robin Thicke.

  • OMG I LOVE LUV <3 THIS!!!!1

  • 3:23-3:35 ALWAYS kills me!!! I could (and have) listened to that part over and over!!!!

  • Thanks SO MUCH for the very clear video!!! It was one of my all-time favorite live performances. I remember watching it when it first came on.

  • Such an ultimately talented family

  • Unbelievably amazing!

  • Does anyone know the arranger/composer of this song?

  • Truly wonderful to watch.... Outstanding artists. Cissy must have been so proud of her daughter and son that night. The best thing that could ever happen to a mother. You can see it on her face at the end of the performance. So nice to see...

  • This is a performance that I will never forget! AWESOME performance by the Houston family! Thank you so much for this, making it a fave right now!

  • a long time ago and one of the first and only times i can remember a family singing together...LIVE...and engaging an audience...and giving PRAISE. thank you Houston family. we all have problems...but God is a WONDERFUL COUNSELOR.

  • Oh mighty god, the everlasting father, prince of peace you arrrrrrreeee......PRAISE HIM!!!

  • I remember watching this the night it aired. SING IT Cissy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's taking us straight to Sunday Morning Worship, there is nothing like family singing together. I feel the Lord everytime I play this clip.

  • @MusickL0ver I had this recorded on VHS the night it aired and lost it many years ago. Thank god its back.

  • Whitney Rules No one ever came close to her she is the Diva of all Divas !!!

  • Yes, micksutube. And Cissy Houston is a music great, with a career highlighted by her many years as leader of The Sweet Inspirations. The elder Houston is credited with many of the brilliant vocal arrangements on Aretha Franklin's Atlantic recordings, for instance.

  • @tracylouisI The audience was in awe! I definitely remember this slammin performance of my all time favorite, Cissy Houston who can sing rings around some of these no talents in the business today! Whitney is the bomb and her brother is incredible! I remember the next day on the news in NYC, the news men were saying to give him a recording contract! Where is MIchael? I read below that he is not doing so well. I hope he and Whitney can over come their demons and sing praises to the lord again!

  • @tracylouis Cissy is my idol and I have seen her many times when I was growing up. I even went to her church in New Jersey to see her. I live in NYC. She was a founding member of The Sweet Inspirations and they are and were the bomb! Backing up Aretha Franklin and so many others, even ELVIS! Cissy has raised three talented children! I love Gary's voice he is incredible, and Whitney? What kind I say but the BOMB!

  • If you were not already familiar with Whitney's gospel heritage, this performance came as a revelation...she is indeed the daughter of Emily "Cissy" Drinkard Houston!

  • I should add that one of the fun things of this video, for me, is the response of the audience. Music industry pros are almost never that all-out in enthusiasm for performances by their own. That entire crowd clapping together (and in time) is quite a sight. But so many professional musicians either come from gospel backgrounds or are gospel fans. Plus, it's the nature of gospel music that you aren't so much cheering the performer as you are the Creator who is inspiring them. It's special.

  • I believe that the woman in question, along with the two women seated to her right, is a member of the Pointer Sisters. Of course, the Pointer Sisters grew up singing gospel in Oakland CA, so they're totally into the Houston family's performance. BTW, I used to hear the Pointer Sisters, then unknown, sing back-up with Elvin Bishop at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. That was a LONG time ago, obviously.

  • Who is that lady with the hair, around 4:11 ...!!!

  • @morenoman You must be referring to the fabulous "up do" of Ruth Pointer of the Pointer Sisters....clearly inspired by Patti Labelle back in the day!

  • Thank you for the correction, Forellensolo. I've made the appropriate changes to my posting. It turns out I also had the title of the song wrong, so I corrected that also!

  • That's Gary Garland, now Houston, though, Whitney's half-brother, not Michael. A great singer he is, they all are. Thanks for posting.

  • Glad you enjoyed it. Re/ Whitney's brother Michael, if you Google him, it seems he hasn't done too well since this AMA breakout appearance. Drugs, a brawl--not good stuff. Kind of like Whitney herself. Watching that '88 video is poignant in light of all that. Cissy Houston and her kids were on top of the world...

  • @tracylouis The man singing here is Gary Garland, now Gary Houston. michael is her other brother.

  • @utwobing Right: if you look above my comment, you'll see that another commenter (Forellensolo) corrected me at the time. Watching the video now is poignant; that was such a joyous moment for that family, and now they're devastated by Whitney's premature death. Still, the video is beautiful to watch. I'm glad I was able to share it with so many people.

  • Great footage, I had no idea Whitney had a Brother., Thanks for posting !
