I'm an American citizen of Russian heritage who happened to live on the street mentioned in this video (prospekt Veteranov) There's overall sense of exaggeration to the whole clip, unfortunately. Yes, there are prostitutes on certain part of this large street - mainly near forested areas, away from places were people (and children actually are) Russians are pretty conservative people, walking in well populated area as a prostitute may cause some public outrage.
Actually my friend, you are sadly very wrong about this. As I was interviewing one prostitute, a family with a carriage walked by. In an another insance, one woman walked into the bushes ten steps away from the tram line in order to have sex with a john...the charity that I was filming estimates there are at least 3 dozen girls working a short section of this street. Young girls, many look very "normal" as they walk around.

I'm an American citizen, lived in USA for 15 years, in Russia for 5 years, in USSR 17 years. I know what I'm taking about. There are other problems in Russia. For example heavy alcohol consumption. Let me say I saw about 3-4 hookers in 5 years and about two hundreds drunks. Much more than in US. This is just a matter of different culture. But, you know, it is even worst in Finland, which I visit quite often.

Why don't you feel altruistic? Why not be so? It is good to air in public what is happening to these women. It will help the public to develop a sense of social conscience about this terrible situation. I'll have to quit this user name soon. I am being gang/cyber stalked in my home town of Hill City, Kansas. It's a bad problem here.

Im not the altruistic type, I dont get off on helping others to make myself feel better. It was an amazing reality check to see them, but did not make me feel any better. The only thing I could do was give them a voice, especially in a place like Russia where they are robbed of that opportunity.

By giving them a place to talk and eventually putting something on film for the social group that helps them, it will hopefully bring increased funding to their efforts at drug-reduction and condom-use increase...

be thankful that your stay is so pleasant and short. We have to go through 6 years of this and get a room 10 times worse than what you got. you have curtains and cupboards, we ony got a table chair bed bedside table. for 6 years.
